Publisher's Summary

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything...until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: "I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger." Yet in this exotic setting nothing was ever quite what it seemed.

Poirot read by Suchet - this could never go wrong!

David Suchet is practically synonymous with Agatha Christie's Poirot, so it's simply wonderful that this audiobook is read by Suchet. His characterisations are perfect, subtle and entertaining, which make these audiobooks great listening. Dive in and enjoy this tale of mystery and murder of the picturesque River Nile, you'll be spellbound.

One of Christie's Best

Agatha Christie had ambitions to break free of genre and be considered a "proper" writer. Mostly she failed, but every now and again the Muse smiled, and one of her characters took life. Death on the Nile features the usual fiendish plotting, but also one of Christie's best characterisations. David Suchet's narration is first-class, of course.

i enjoyed listening to this story on my iphone laying in my hammock sipping on a pims

What did you like best about this story?

I love the clever twists in this story and of course the characters are colorful and vivid.

Have you listened to any of David Suchet’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

David Suchet has come to be the voice of Poirot for me, his narration of the this classic transported me to a time i never knew yet fell in love with.

A beautiful story, masterfully told.

What did you love best about Death on the Nile?

Different to the movie in telling ways, but excellent.

What does David Suchet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His profiling of the characters through his expressive voice brings them to life in a special way.

Suchet's performance spoils a good tale

David Suchet chooses such silly voices for some of the characters that they are not only difficult to understand at times, but they also add a somewhat comical tone to the story. His Poirot mumbles away from time to time and I got tired of rewinding to try and understand crucial statements. Hugh Fraser is, undoubtedly, the best reader of the Poirot novels and short stories. Unfortunately, he hasn't recorded them all.

the book itself was good.

this was my first audio book and I loved it. David Suchet was amazing, loved his work on this, all his voices, the dialogue, and the narration was on point and had me engaged throughout the book.

Excellent story, let down by narration

I think I've been spoiled by Hugh Fraser (why hasn't he recorded all of the Christie books?) - David Suchet's narration skills are surprisingly inadequate in comparison - even his Poirot. While he gives a masterly performance of Poirot on film, the voice is somehow wrong on audio format, too mincing, too weak. And his other character voices are truly awful, especially the women.

Agatha Christie at her best

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I enjoy David Suchet, but I though his depiction of Colonel Race was not the best

A generally pleasant listen.

Would recommend this book to a friend but it does require some suspension of disbelief. Also the characters are very Christie and whether or not you see that as positive or negative is up to you.

Awful voices

Great story but a lot of the voices were very irritating done in a grating voice. Colonel Race one of the worst.

Generally great

Loved it all, except the voice David Suchet used for Colonel Race.. he sounded too much like Rik Mayall playing Vivien in The Young Ones. Couldn’t take that seriously at all! Added some humour though!

David Suchet narrating Poirot is a must!

Superb narration of one of my favourite Poirot stories. Poirot is brought to life in this retelling.

Bring back Hugh Fraser

While David Suchet is excellent as Poirot, he's not great at the other voices. Colonel Race, who is a viable leading man in 'The Man in the Brown Suit' is read as a ghastly, military type of the worst kind. All the voices kind of grated through the story, which is a shame as it's a good read normally

Poirot at his best

Absolutely enthralling. David Suchet's narration makes this one of my favourite interpretations. Will re-listen to it again, just for the sheer love of all things Poirot

excellent book and reading. only slight issue was with characterisation of colonel races voice, was not quite suited to Christie's portrayal.

I adore David Suchet

and LOVED hearing his Poirot and his narration, but I found some of the voices - particularly Colonel Race and Mrs Van Schuyler - to be really jarring, irritating and inconsistent.

Not her best but always fun

This is not my favourite Poirot novel, it's a little too predictable for my liking but like with all of Christie's novels it comes alive anyway. Suchet is a lively strange receive whose characters are wonderfully distinct

Loved it!

David Suchet’s reading of this classic is as good as it gets. His ability to transition between characters is incredible. And as a fan of his Poirot, it was a joy to hear the little Belgian detective’s voice again.

No more voice characterisations, please,

Even you, David Suchet's, do not have 'the gift'. You attempt to voice all the characters in the story and you ruin the story, as originally intended by the author. Believe me, it can't be done out of one throat.
