Publisher's Summary

A desperate family confronts the mysteries that lie between life and death in this soul-gripping novel of supernatural suspense by Amazon Charts and New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice.

Claire Huntley and her brother, Poe, were on a midnight hike in Montana when the woods went wild. A blinding, devouring light and a rumbling pulse that blasted them off their feet left both kids with little memory of what happened. Their father insisted it was a violent extraterrestrial abduction; his wild obsession would tear their family apart in the wake of the trauma.

Fourteen years later, Claire, who’s battled anxiety attacks since that fateful hike, wants to heal her relationship with her brother, which has been damaged by his years of addiction. But only hours before their reunion, Poe’s crowded passenger plane plunges into the Colorado mountains. No one survives the fiery crash. In the midst of her grief, Claire accepts her estranged father’s request to join him in Montana, where he continues to investigate the paranormal force he believes altered his children down to their bones.

As they reunite, Claire’s anxiety attacks take on a new dimension. Is she experiencing hallucinations or visions? Is her brother’s presence in them a symptom of grief, or is she receiving messages from beyond life? The answers Claire and her father seek will take them on a breakneck journey deep into the Montana wilderness and the shadows of history, where they will unearth a secret force with terrifying implications for their family—and the world.

Exhausting!

Endless characters added, convoluted, far less than the sum of its parts, disappointing.
Seems like the author may have needed to expand this into 2 or 3 books because character development is almost nil and the number of characters gets out of control.
As for the story...well I'm guessing more than a few readers have found it convoluted and disjointed, as I did.
I hope this was more interesting to write than it was to read.

I couldn’t get into this

I listened to the first six chapters and I quit listening because it wasn’t interesting enough to continue.

the power of death

Decimate by Christopher Rice

A remarkable what if story, the idea that research can find the power in the transition from life and death. Very dark, with a lot of complications. The audio book is wonderful.

A theory comes to a novel

So many believe in a "life" after death, and this scenario is a perfect explanation of what it might be. Enjoyed this scenario immensely, thank you for putting it in into words.

Sooo good!

The narrator did a really good job defining the characters. I wondered at some point how it could be 11 hours long… but it had me in suspense as the story shifted and turned! Kudos to Rice for building an entire world with detail and for finding the story in the best way. I highly recommend listening and buying a hard copy as well!!!

Arghh!

I loved the originality of the story, and was spellbound until the end...which was anticlimatic. what happened when they opened the cave? I'm surely not the only one who wants to know. Will there be a sequel?

Couldn't put down

Narration was very well done. Every moment was written so well that visualizing the characters and their actions were easy. The end came to soon for me as you wanted to know what next. Excellent read!
