Story
Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

Publisher's Summary
Sifting through reams of seemingly unrelated intelligence, CIA analyst Katherine Rule discovers a chilling pattern: an ultrasecret Baltic submarine base...a crafty Russian spy-master in command...a carefully planned invasion about to be launched from dark waters. Her suspicions, however, are dismissed by those higher up; her theory, they say, is too crazy to be true. But to Katherine, it’s just crazy enough to succeed - unless she can stop it. If she’s right, an attack sub has already penetrated friendly waters. Worse yet, the enemy has penetrated deep into her own life, so deep she can touch him. And in this game, one wrong touch can mean Armageddon.

Where's Will Lee, Again?
This is a great 1980s Soviet era thriller that pits CIA analyst Katherine Rule versus the Soviets and the CIA. Will Lee plays a small part and one wonders why he's even in the book? The Soviets are bad guys, ain't it always so? We get to like one or two of them. It was a fun read and I'm still looking for some involvement for the named player--Will Lee. Where's book #4?

Interesting Plot
The US intelligence community creates a misunderstanding campaign indicating Sweden is to join NATO. Little do they realize that the Russians are planning a secret coupe of Sweden though a most elaborately planned of action from a secretive Latvian naval facility and detonation of a nuclear device. A well thought out story with many twists and turns to keep you interested to the very end. Well done

Great story line with detailed characterization.
What did you love best about Deep Lie?
Psychological depth of the characters, and the quick story line.
Any additional comments?
I would suggest that the narration could be improved greatly by using both male and female narrators. Additionally, the references to very antiquated technology significantly dates the story. The constant technology comparisons taking place in the back of your head while listening to the story is disruptive to a degree that it actually corrupts the smooth flow of the story line.

Not my favorite of the three Will Lee books I've listened to, however it adds the depth to the future books I'm sure the series needs. Looking forward to the next in the series, I like Stone, but I think I prefer this series.
