More!

Don't listen to the anonymous troll who can't even spell the words in his title correctly. I've read this on RoyalRoad and it is just as good as the first 3. I woke up at 2am to start listening and I'm happy to say that the narration is still top notch. My only regret is I didn't take the day off work to finish it today.

Hyperbole - the novel.

I made it to book 4. You likely have as well if you’re reading this. So let me say up front. I bought book 4 – I’ll buy book 5.

That said. Oh my god the writing.
The author almost CERTAINLY writes monster truck commercials and likely does the voice as well. If I could get a word jumble of this novel it would look like this:

EXTREME. The MOST. Maximum! Perfect. Ultimate. Intense. Severe. Farthest, Fastest.

When people look at people they get a tag line with the look and that tag line is monster truck worthy.

She looked at him with extreme death in her eyes.
He looked back at her with even more perilous intent!

It just got out of hand in this book! It’s been that way the whole time but it ramped up somehow in this novel and that’s saying a lot.

The last quarter of the book. Nearly the entire tower climb – BORING AS HELL. Like – a complete snooze fest.

The problem with the power levels being the entire focus in the universe and having to ramp anything up and deal with the one-shot factor of powers is how out of control it gets for the author. If one person is nearly unkillable and everyone around him is HALF as durable as he is – you have to bring some serious power to threaten him or it gets boring watching him smash everything. But that completely screws over everyone else. He is a killing machine. Then you introduce 29 exponentially more powerful levels above him and it just gets wonky fast!

I’m entertained and this is about entertaining but that doesn’t mean the author can’t improve on his craft – and he should.

Taking a break

I was really excited to see the MC progress but it doesn’t really feel like he did. Also, this love interest thing I’m bored of already please figure it out it feels a little YA. Pretty sure I’m going to let the author get further into the series and then come back to it. I do like this series but this book made me feel like I was listening but wasn’t retaining anything.

Out of the 200+ books I’ve listened to from this genre this is one of my favorite series. I find myself lost in Hatchetmans Rage mowing down zombies with superbrotherman. Author does a fantastic job drawing you into the world. The battles are epic.

Pavi’s narration is stellar as always. Right up there with Nick P as one of my favorite narrators.

Keep these books coming soon and often.

Very enjoyable

This series continues to be a great purchase.
I am reserving my 5 stars for books that I can't put down or want to read again, and this one ended up being one that I listened to from start to end in just a couple of days.

It is a very interesting take with just enough LitRPG elements, while not being so heavy that half the book is stat readouts. The story universe continues to expand and JF Brink is not afraid to move the story forward. While every minute of the nearly 23 hours is perfect, to me none of it felt like pointless filler. Things happen, the story progresses, characters develop.

My only concern is, where is audible book 5?!

Where is the rest?

Fun story, but the book ends long before the story reaches a resolution. WTF?

Zac climbs half of the tower and then it just ends. No ultimate fight. No key item. No climax or resolution.

A note to the author: Dude, you did the same damn thing Aleron Kong did with the last book in his series, The Land. What a let down. You don't say a book is complete just because it reaches a certain page count.

Your writing mechanics and storytelling continue to blossom. An excellent editor will help you grow rapidly.

Half the book is filler, and what happens to Billy?

I have enjoyed this series so far but I was very disappointed in this one.

****Spoilers****

So the last book had a good amount of time spent developing and doing everything you see in a series like this. This whole book was basically let’s wrap up some loose ends and create some more. The big bad guy from the last book is gone and now the MC is just sooo overpowered that nothing can stop him? Half the book is just wasted filler and confusing chapters that bounce around. It’s like they got bored with the original story and Just started making some new arcs for fun. First it was close all the incursions or loose the planet. They took one of the more interesting characters the abbot and just removed him. So with out even giving him a chance to fight and with no real sense of anything he is healed and now gone. So the zombie hordes you ask one of the 3 main bad guys? Yep they also don’t matter any more because MC needs to fight the main one so let’s just stop that story arc and start a new one. Who would leave the planet after fighting to save it right when you start loosing? Also never explained why the other bad guy is now just not worried about anything???? So I get the underworld stuff as just a bunch of battles but it’s like okay why even make it a big deal and main story arc from the start if it’s just no big issue and bam underworld is saved. No hard boss just done. So yea of course mc gets all the money and saves everyone but it’s like okay what about the other people? That could have been a much better story arc for his sister to handle???? If it wasn’t even a challenge for MC why not have some one else do it. Then he could have focused on the zombies and maybe even stopping them. Also if the undead do the same thing on every “baby planet” why is it a surprise and why wouldn’t they know what the thing is??? They are like all other arrays have flags and if you destroy them it falls apart other than this big one. Then the sister is like well let’s just destroy them anyway even though they where already 100% certain it wouldn’t work but thn it’s like omg we are attached? Now again this could all have been in the first half of the book.

The dumb tower climb was also just another thing that might have been pretty cool but nope it’s another cake walk. I’m like they talk about how hard it is then just walk through it with out any problems. Yes I get it the MC is overpowering it’s basically a repeat of the underworld arc. I’m glad they didn’t get too detailed but who ends a book halfway through a climb?

They tried to fit like 3 main story arcs into 1 book and failed. Again if you look at the book as a whole absolutely nothing happened other than they freed the underground but why was it not already free? Nothing they ran into was that hard and it makes zero sense that it would have been controlled if they had so many powerful people in the underworld?

Pick a story arc for the MC and stick with it for the book. I mean this whole book could have been the sister frees the underworld mc goes to the tower and the Marshals take out the zombies ? Also what happened to billy? What happened to the government? Also I’m pretty sure that the old man with the octopus was in a coma or maybe I missed when he woke up because I fell asleep with the chapters full of crap. I really liked the first 3 books. They had a main arc and solid character development. This was just a waste of time. Please don’t continue to make filler books and change plot arcs it’s how you end up ruining a good thing.

The sister needs to be smarter she’s got a freaking AI and is dumb as rocks.

Zero storyline for the marshals and billy or any of the other top players on earth? Has some mention of them almost dying then nothing!!!

Make up your mind first it’s the incursions are fighting each other then it’s never mind they are helping each other now we have to fight the big bad guy as the other bad guy watches.

Every single tower fight should be an all out battle going forward!!! I mean what’s the point of a tower if it’s not even hard. Also if he can’t get stronger in the tower why have fights? Also who in the world came up with your level system floor this and floor that real floors tower floors I mean wtf????

Also I can see some foreshadowing with the luck thing with the shard and killing the guy was a nice way to save the day but create mayhem it’s just a little unbelievable? At what point did the MC become a murder hungry maniac? You spend like 2 chapters talking about how it’s the dumbest thing you can do to start a fight then he starts a fight??? You have the the auction thing but it’s just bla… why do all that to just end up changing his character to some dumb guy.

Get an editor, stick to a story arc per character, use the characters you already have!!!!

Also mc can not be in every battle and every story arc I mean it’s like ping pong. It’s a war, a good leader leads and let’s his people fight.

Also there is still almost no pick up from the story about the mystic realm that was just like completely forgotten for now. Yea area that the mc could actually have grown stronger in completely ignored to spend half the book walking through the underworld!!!! For the love of god stop making new story arcs if your not going to close any of them or stick to a character at least.

Anger does mot add depth.

Im tired of characters slowly devolving into the basic troupe of a man whose only emotion we see is anger. I love watching the progress but Zack became harder and harder to like. I cant even put it into words. Its not his actions but his tone and mindset that rubbed me wrong.

The story gets dragged a lot

The concept of the story is good but the writer seems to really drag everything a lot. Simple things which should be combined into one chapters seems to spread around just to make the story longer.

Greatness & Power levelling galore

Zac just seens to run from strength to strength and with a novel tower climb to help his greatness shine and a nice change away from Earth this is the best so far and it allows for a lot more characters and a better understanding of the worlds beyond. Pavi still doing great with this narration as well.

Its Good, but…

Narrator is excellent. Nothing against him. Many different vocals and accounts which makes it easy to know which characters are talking.

The story is engaging and the world building is just amazing.

The only downside is the MC. This is subjective, but the MC is just to flawless. It’s so obvious he is made perfect for a bunch of teens with self esteem issues to project themselves on. The MC never does anything “wrong”. If something negative happens, it’s because he was influenced by something, and it is portrayed in a badass way. He is never tricked, he is always correct in his assumptions etc.
In the first book the MC struggled and succeeded. In the second he got rewarded for his struggles, but now he is just a one man army. There is no tension left, because the reader knows the MC won’t face anyone who can beat him. There are people stronger, but it’s so obvious the author keeps them away until the MC is stronger. It’s gotten really repetitive. The world building is good enough to keep the attention though.
Conclusion? The author obviously won’t change the MC because it’s pretty obvious he loves to make the MC as impressive as possible without realizing he is making him boring. These kinds of authors never really change. So if u want to read about a character to project yourself on him, buy it.

in serious need of an editor

absolutely fantastic story. The premise is solidly plausible in a creative way, the way the characters and the world progress are also very engrossing.

But the writing itself is average at best.

Lack of conjugation during dialog makes everyone sound odd, and misusing words like "compared", and "decimate", make it hard to immerse myself in the story.

Immediately started to lose it's original luster

I read a review for this book just to see if it was still going strong 4 books in. one review mentioned that the word immediately was used too much, unfortunately the rest of the reviews were very positive. at first I thought, oh yeah, there's that word again. but soon after all I could hear was that dreaded word. honestly, I'm still trying to get through the book after smashing the first 3. I loved the story and the style and especially the descriptions of the tao visions. But if you dare to buy and try this book just know that you have been warned. sometime the word is used 5 or 6 times in less than 60seconds! sometimes it's used two or three times in that many sentences. that's not all, there are other words and sayings that get overused. look, I don't expect this to be a literary masterpiece, but there is a limit. anyway, I never review books but this I had to do for myself as much as you, I'm going back in now, I will try to make it to the end.

Enjoying the story, but now loathe 'immediately'

This multiverse with the system, all the stats and abilities has been very interesting. Character dialogue could be improved and moving onto book 5 can we assume every action and event happens 'immediately'? I don't think I experienced a single chapter that didn't use the word at least once. I think the record was 4 times in one minute.

Someone send the author a thesaurus.
