Story
Due to unusual circumstances, Randidly starts in an isolated dungeon far beyond his level, forced to rely on the mysterious Traveler Shal in order to learn and survive with the dangerous new status quo for his world. But survive he does, only to leave the dungeon and discover that while he experienced several hellish months in the dungeon, only half a day passed on Earth. Randidly's capabilities are now more than enough to help build a small enclave of survivors, but that doesn't mean balancing his sense of responsibility against the plots of an unfriendly town will be easy.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Don't listen to the anonymous troll who can't even spell the words in his title correctly. I've read this on RoyalRoad and it is just as good as the first 3. I woke up at 2am to start listening and I'm happy to say that the narration is still top notch. My only regret is I didn't take the day off work to finish it today.

Hyperbole - the novel.
I made it to book 4. You likely have as well if you’re reading this. So let me say up front. I bought book 4 – I’ll buy book 5.
That said. Oh my god the writing.
The author almost CERTAINLY writes monster truck commercials and likely does the voice as well. If I could get a word jumble of this novel it would look like this:
EXTREME. The MOST. Maximum! Perfect. Ultimate. Intense. Severe. Farthest, Fastest.
When people look at people they get a tag line with the look and that tag line is monster truck worthy.
She looked at him with extreme death in her eyes.
He looked back at her with even more perilous intent!
It just got out of hand in this book! It’s been that way the whole time but it ramped up somehow in this novel and that’s saying a lot.
The last quarter of the book. Nearly the entire tower climb – BORING AS HELL. Like – a complete snooze fest.
The problem with the power levels being the entire focus in the universe and having to ramp anything up and deal with the one-shot factor of powers is how out of control it gets for the author. If one person is nearly unkillable and everyone around him is HALF as durable as he is – you have to bring some serious power to threaten him or it gets boring watching him smash everything. But that completely screws over everyone else. He is a killing machine. Then you introduce 29 exponentially more powerful levels above him and it just gets wonky fast!
I’m entertained and this is about entertaining but that doesn’t mean the author can’t improve on his craft – and he should.

Taking a break
I was really excited to see the MC progress but it doesn’t really feel like he did. Also, this love interest thing I’m bored of already please figure it out it feels a little YA. Pretty sure I’m going to let the author get further into the series and then come back to it. I do like this series but this book made me feel like I was listening but wasn’t retaining anything.

Where is the rest?
Fun story, but the book ends long before the story reaches a resolution. WTF?
Zac climbs half of the tower and then it just ends. No ultimate fight. No key item. No climax or resolution.
A note to the author: Dude, you did the same damn thing Aleron Kong did with the last book in his series, The Land. What a let down. You don't say a book is complete just because it reaches a certain page count.
Your writing mechanics and storytelling continue to blossom. An excellent editor will help you grow rapidly.

Anger does mot add depth.
Im tired of characters slowly devolving into the basic troupe of a man whose only emotion we see is anger. I love watching the progress but Zack became harder and harder to like. I cant even put it into words. Its not his actions but his tone and mindset that rubbed me wrong.

Very enjoyable
This series continues to be a great purchase.
I am reserving my 5 stars for books that I can't put down or want to read again, and this one ended up being one that I listened to from start to end in just a couple of days.
It is a very interesting take with just enough LitRPG elements, while not being so heavy that half the book is stat readouts. The story universe continues to expand and JF Brink is not afraid to move the story forward. While every minute of the nearly 23 hours is perfect, to me none of it felt like pointless filler. Things happen, the story progresses, characters develop.
My only concern is, where is audible book 5?!

Its Good, but…
Narrator is excellent. Nothing against him. Many different vocals and accounts which makes it easy to know which characters are talking.
The story is engaging and the world building is just amazing.
The only downside is the MC. This is subjective, but the MC is just to flawless. It’s so obvious he is made perfect for a bunch of teens with self esteem issues to project themselves on. The MC never does anything “wrong”. If something negative happens, it’s because he was influenced by something, and it is portrayed in a badass way. He is never tricked, he is always correct in his assumptions etc.
In the first book the MC struggled and succeeded. In the second he got rewarded for his struggles, but now he is just a one man army. There is no tension left, because the reader knows the MC won’t face anyone who can beat him. There are people stronger, but it’s so obvious the author keeps them away until the MC is stronger. It’s gotten really repetitive. The world building is good enough to keep the attention though.
Conclusion? The author obviously won’t change the MC because it’s pretty obvious he loves to make the MC as impressive as possible without realizing he is making him boring. These kinds of authors never really change. So if u want to read about a character to project yourself on him, buy it.

No Editing?
Edit: 1.5 stars overall. (Was 2) - Seriously? 22 hours, and you can't even finish telling a complete story? Stopping the book in the middle of the story arc is not okay. I now regret buying book 4 and book 5 in this series at the same time. Will not be buying this author's books again since he doesn't respect his customers enough to #1 - Edit his manuscript, #2 - Finish telling the story he started.
This book.... I don't think anyone edited it. They are fighting in a cave.... The protagonist gets surprised and jumps "tens of meters in the air" with someone on his back. WTF? This is going downhill.
It's also so disappointing when a book with a decent story set up is crippled by an author that displays a woefully limited vocabulary. 🙁 Just coming back to this series after taking a break... Wandering Inn and Dungeon Crawler Carl spoiled me....
Things that should not be:
Description: "Inferno of Fire"
Description: "The wave crashed in a wave of.."
Description: "Arsenal of Weaponry"
Any word repeated more than 4 times in a short amount of time.
Any word used as the sole term to describe a common concept with many adjectives and/or nouns that can be used to reference it... example "A very strong person or entity." (The constant use of "powerhouse" is super annoying here.)

this is going too quickly
occasionally the narrators emphasis doesn't match the text in my opinion but other than that its a great read. story is top tier

Enjoying the story, but now loathe 'immediately'
This multiverse with the system, all the stats and abilities has been very interesting. Character dialogue could be improved and moving onto book 5 can we assume every action and event happens 'immediately'? I don't think I experienced a single chapter that didn't use the word at least once. I think the record was 4 times in one minute.
Someone send the author a thesaurus.

Average at best
The weakest instalment so far, no real progression and slow. No landmark breakthroughs and no resolution to any problem Zac faces. More and more issues piled on with no catharsis for accomplishing anything. also builds time pressures to only magic it away. disappointing instalment.

Don't give up.
Loving the overall story of "defiance of the fall" but the last quarter of this book was hard to get through, it felt like it was just 6 hours of the same chapter and the story didn't progress at all. By the time you get to the ending its right back on track. Looking forward to the next book .
