Publisher's Summary

From award-winning comedian and writer Katy Wix comes Delicacy - a different kind of memoir from an astonishing new voice.

Twenty-one snapshots of a life - some staccato, raw and shocking, some expansive, meditative and profound, underpinned with moments of startling humour that shatter the darkness - all beginning with a single memory. A memory of cake.

The sickly royal icing marked the moment Katy found her voice. The madeira cake was the sun her group therapy sessions orbited. The 'missing cake' from a lost holiday has never let go. The Bara brith eaten in hospital after a life-altering car crash was as tough as the metal that hit her. The supermarket rock cake was where she 'practised wanting'.

Shocking, raw, darkly funny and deeply humane, Katy Wix's exploration of trauma, grief, addiction, love, loss, memory and hope is truly unforgettable.

Yes I woke up at 3 am just to listen to this fantastic audiobook. I have always loved Katy so when I saw she had written a book I pre-ordered it straight away along with the audiobook. I truly was not disappointed this is a really honest and heartfelt book I’m currently grieving someone that I personally feel like I have to grieve in secret. this book has really helped me it has however made go out today and buy loads of cake.
Thank you Katy xx

Read this.

Got this as an audio book and stuck a chapter on to see what to expect, then ended up listening to it for the whole evening and then every minute I could sneak away from what I was supposed to be doing, until it, regrettably, ended. Review words like Brilliant and Excellent don't really cut it. Annoyed I've finished it to be honest. The author would probably hate this but it's one of the wisest things I've read. For anyone whose mental health makes them feel like an alien this will make you feel less like an alien and also make you laugh a lot. The section on personal trainers is a masterpiece. I think I love her. What the hell am I supposed to read now?

Heartaching, wonderful memoir

I loved this memoir for the parts that resonated and the parts that I couldn't imagine having to bear. My heart ached but it was wonderfully written.

Beautiful

This was so honest, vulnerable and relatable. Beautifully written and a thoroughly enjoyable read - difficult at times but such honesty throughout

Beautifully written

I’ve just finished this book and I want to read it all again. I absolutely loved it. It’s so beautifully written. Some hard chapters about loss and grief which I could sadly relate to however I needed this, I just didn’t realise it. I hope there will be more from Katy Wix. I’m so glad I found this book, highly recommend

Beautiful, painful, funny and healing.

Thank you Katie for your ability to say what I can’t, for making me feel less lonely in my grief, for sharing your mum, dad and friend with me. The most comforting book I’ve read on grief, pain, loss and lostness. And for the cake.

Engaging, heartbreaking, hopeful

An excellent listen - brutally honest, funny, sad, heartwarming and full of cake (sometimes delicious sounding). Highly recommend.

Review cake

I'm a woman of a similar age to the author so our reference points are similar but I think anyone who has grown up and, through heartbreak, grief, loss and laughter has learned more about who they really are will get something from this book.

Beautiful memoir of coping with grief & depression

I was expecting more comic moments judging from the cover, but this was an honest and often raw storytelling through moments of family life and growing up. Dealing with grief and the multiple loss that Katy writes about is often a painful listening experience but it's truthfulness is its strength.
