Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Tourists flock to Mistpoint Harbor to snap photos of the famous lighthouse, browse the Museum of Curses & Curiosities, and claim their “I survived the Most Cursed Town in America!” pin. But for me, growing up in Mistpoint Harbor wasn’t a vacation. Not when locals have a deep-seated loathing for my family. They hate my dad. They hate my older brothers. And they hate me—Zoey Durand, the girl who shrunk in high school at the taunts and jeers. Like a sad wilted flower. If it wasn't for October Brambilla, life would've been a real living hell.

Public Relations expert Emery Bates has exactly one problem she's willing to admit, and it's that she doesn't have a girlfriend to take as her date to a wedding. Not because she needs a girlfriend, but because she needs an easier way to come out to college friends she hasn't seen in five years. Her job is about controlling the narrative, and as she sees it, there's no reason why that can't extend to her personal life. When her ends up single a few weeks before the wedding, Emery realizes inviting Jordan along and faking romance for a week in Hawaii could be perfect for both of them.

Publisher's Summary
A clever and steamy queer romantic comedy about taking chances and accepting love - with all its complications - by debut author Ashley Herring Blake.
Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls - nothing is there for her but memories of a lonely childhood where she was little more than a burden to her cold and distant stepfamily. Her life is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it’s a different woman every night, but that’s just fine with her.
When Delilah’s estranged stepsister, Astrid, pressures her into photographing her wedding with a guilt trip and a five-figure check, Delilah finds herself back in the godforsaken town that she used to call home. She plans to breeze in and out, but then she sees Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid’s stuck-up besties, and decides that maybe there’s some fun (and a little retribution) to be had in Bright Falls, after all.
Having raised her 11-year-old daughter mostly on her own while dealing with her unreliable ex and running a bookstore, Claire Sutherland depends upon a life without surprises. And Delilah Green is an unwelcome surprise...at first. Though they’ve known each other for years, they don’t really know each other - so Claire is unsettled when Delilah figures out exactly what buttons to push. When they’re forced together during a gauntlet of wedding preparations - including a plot to save Astrid from her horrible fiancé - Claire isn’t sure she has the strength to resist Delilah’s charms. Even worse, she’s starting to think she doesn’t want to....
Critic Reviews
"Blake captures all the complications of family, friendship, and romance with humor and heart."—Kirkus
"There's family drama, trauma, childhood memories, love, romance, diverse relationships between not just the main couple, but everyone in the book, that'll have you on the edge of your seat. The novel also does a great job of inputting a queer love story in the middle of an enticing read."—USA Today
"Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is a hot, frothy romcom with a relatable heart beating at its centre. I loved every hilarious character, every outrageous shenanigan - and most of all, I loved Delilah Green. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!"—Talia Hibbert, New York Times bestselling author of Act Your Age, Eve Brown

THEE. BEST.
Finally! A novel with well developed characters that doesn't rely on stupid decisions, simple misunderstandings, or a basic lack of communication to drive the plot. One of the best I've found on this site.

We Care about Delilah xoxo
The narrator was good. I wish she had narrated more in the characters voices for the switch of protagonists, but she was excellent at making sure the voices were changed for dialogue sections.
In the story, Delilah seems to have a very lack luster life. She’s a small fish in the big pond of New York, taking 10 years to get recognition for her photography as art and is stuck having to go back to her hometown that’s rife with uncomfortable and unwelcome memories of loss and not feeling wanted. But she’s getting paid to photograph her sisters wedding, so why not.
Meanwhile Claire is content with her little family, her small business, her friendships, but not in her love life. That’s fine right? Well her best friend doesn’t think so. After some haggling, her best friend Iris convinces her to talk to the beautiful woman at the bar, who is striking with her big mess of curls and tattoos.
To Delilah’s delight and surprise, Claire is talking to her at their small town bar and doesn’t seem to realize that she’s flirting with Astrid’s step sister… oh boy what a twist.
When everyone can see Astrid isn’t happy with her fiancé, Delilah, Claire, and Iris, set out to prevent Astrid’s unhappiness from becoming permanent with an “I do.” Delilah begins to care about the people in her life and realizes that they indeed ALSO care about her. Despite a lack of honesty, failure to express vulnerability, and a slew of other twists and turns, the women in this story find themselves and stick up for their needs and in the end, She gets the girl. I really enjoyed the raw moments and I really felt Ruby was a great character as well. I love that Delilah and Ruby could connect and reignite Delilah’s creativity while also giving the perspective of a girl who was around the same age as Delilah was when her life fell apart with the passing of her father. I do wish that Delilah and Astrid’s mom was handled more… just more in general. I wanted more resolution with that thread. Excellent queer rep with Bi and Lesbian characters. No Bi erasure that I could detect. Very refreshing. Thank you!

I will not be buying the sequel
The story itself is alright. What makes me not give it 4stars is that the author uses the word "said" every time a character speaks. It became repetitive and annoying after about the second chapter. As for the reader, I only took issue with one character because their voice wasn't consistent throughout. It kind of pulled from three characters and you could hear them slip in when this specific character was talking for a while with varying intonation. I just saw that there was a sequel and considering how much this book irked me I'm gonna pass.
