Publisher's Summary

A stand-alone story in the Shadow Beast Shifters world. Best listened to after Reborn for storyline continuity.

Melalekin "Angel" of the Honor Meadows has been a warrior her entire life. Battle. Death. Loss. They were her constant companions until the day she met Mera Callahan. A shifter who ended up being so much more. A shifter who changed her life, and now...she has been reborn. The scars of her past are gone. Her losses muted under the new life she plans on living.

There's just one being standing in her way. A grudge holding desert deity who has made an art form out of making her life hell.

Reece of the Desert Lands is a god unused to being defied, and he has a very long memory when it comes to those who wronged him. Angel is the one he blames for the worst loss in his life, and he'll never let her forget it. Their history is tragic and bloodied, and the pair is set to clash one more time, especially when they end up trapped in the very spot where they lost it all. A meeting of the dynasties in the Delfora, the ancient desert lands, will force them to the place it all began.

Here they will learn that sometimes the past defines your future. And that there is a fine line between love and hate.

Note: This is a stand-alone in the Shadow Beast world and does not end on a cliff-hanger. It is full-length, and it is advised to listen to the first three in the Shadow Beast Shifters series first (Rejected, Reclaimed, Reborn). This is an enemies-to-lovers story, with action, snark, antiheroes, and steam. It is recommended for 18+ due to storyline and situations.

Hate the male voice

The woman reader was wonderful but the male was irritating and left something lacking. Another male reader for all books were not enjoyable

Sad but awesome story!

I loved the story but listening to the first 3 Shadow Beast Shifters books with Mera & Shadow I feel in love with the narrators & I was deeply disappointed they changed the narrators. For about 1 minute! They were awesome! I loved this story it was sweet, steamy, & sad it hits you right in the feels!!! 5*****!!!!!!

the guy voice wasn't working

I like this book and the woman voice but the guy voice was hard to distinguish from which character was talking. they all sounded the same. I like the guy in the first three books.

Loved this story

I still don't know why Recee was so upset with Angel over leaving the battle all those centuries ago I was super annoyed he was part of the reason that the merry band of a holes shunned her. However, I was very happy to see them finally connect. I was so bummed with Alistor! Definitely wasn't expecting that. I wish she would have gone a little more into their past since they were best friends. They must have had a ton of adventures and I wish they would have gone I to that as they were sailing across the desert. I'm really looking forward to Simon and Luciens story.

love the writing. hate the voice acting

I loved the first 3 books so much I couldn't wait for this one. This still has impeccable writing but I had a hard time with the voice actors. I think both Marnye Young and Jakobi Diem didn't capture the characters like Michelle Sparks and Noel Harrison did in the first 3 books. Meera doesn't sound like herself but I will say she did capture Angel correctly. Jakobi on the other hand was a mess. he sounds like a robot and doesn't have a good distinctive voice or accent for Shadow and Reese. He is not very good with accents. I felt that as a fan, this ruined my experience. otherwise, jaymin eve is creative and talented. no idea how she comes up with so many different worlds and creatures.

Enjoyed

The first fourth of the book really dragged as the writer found Angel's voice and rhythm. But then it really took off!! i really registered with thre reconnecting, and healing moments of past misunderstandings. The sexy scenes were great until they started ti be more "creative" which just jarred me, but that's personal preference. Overall great story. Really enjoyed learning the deeper parts & backstories of the characters.

If only the artwork reflected the characters

Narrators were good. the cover art could have been way better. looks nothing like the actual characters. With someone with OCD like me it threw it off.

So much was happening all the time there wasn't a second of peace. Fast paced.

Book was very good

Hearing angels story was very interesting. Only thing I’m kinda down about was, in the 3 previous books, It was a different narrator. Why didn’t they let the previous narrator read this book. It almost sounds like Angel and Mira swapped personalities. Other than that, great book.

Brilliant addition to the series

The Shadowbeast series has really been fantastic to listen to. Yes they are sexy paranormal books but the characters are really engaging. The entire Shadowbeast universe and Solaris system is so clever. I was really pleased to find this standalone book about Angel. She is a strong badass warrior and her back story definitely deserved it's own book. This book did not dissapoint. I really do recommend this book. Be warned it is very sexually explicit but the storyline is definitely not your usual erotica. I would love to see this series a films. The world created by the author is rich with detail and really clever.

Deserted

A great second love story as Angel comes to terms with her losses, and Reace finally forgives her. After many battles with each other they join forces and battle the awakening Gods. Read brilliantly by Marnye Young and Jakobi Diem.

Good but too similar

So I liked it but
Heck it it makes sense that it's "shadow the second" Becuase it might as well have been "Mira the second" as well. I loved Angel in the other books and there was a lot of potential in the story about her but honestly... It was just too simple and made her weaker and uninteresting character that basically ended up being the new Mira...
I miss the other Angel and I feel like this was written too fast and too much like a repeat if the previous...
It was good but lacked in depth.

#DesertAngel

This book was amazing to read, but listening to it is even better! The characters are really bought to life by the voice actors, and the pace was fantastic.

4 star listen

Great listen. 4 star listen I’m a massive fan of marnye and jakobi did a great job on the mmc.

I found this story fabulous but a little too quick, I would have liked a little more depth to the story and the background of angel and her sister and Reese and his brother and the past. That’s way it’s not 5 stars.

I love this world and all it’s characters.
Cannot wait for compelled to be popped on audio.
There’s heaps of shadow and Mera and their unborn baby which I’m sooooo looking forward to.

100% recommend this series.

Tricky to review

I was really curious about this one I had looooved the first shadow beast book and the 90% of the second, devouring them and I have love for the characters. However, the third book (and the ending of the second) I didn’t really enjoy.

Plus I like angel but she is a little dry so I was wondering how her book would be written and admittedly, because of the personality of Angel and Reece, It was less entertaining and colourful than shadowshines story.

But I mean, this book was ok, I personally would have liked it more if it was told from both their point of views instead of just her and I think there was a lot of telling their past and saying context instead of showing it with flashbacks or memories or something and was hard to get really invested in them because we weren’t there, just sort of told about it after the fact.

But I did enjoy the world building and imagery and as always Jaymin eves spicy scenes were creative and hot and I still care about the characters so I will probably listen to the next one.
