Publisher's Summary

The “spine-tingling adventures” (Chicago Tribune) of Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala continue as the NUMA® crew teams up with a beautiful Russian agent in this number one New York Times best-selling series.

NUMA Special Assignment Team leader Kurt Austin, and his right-hand man, Joe Zavala, are looking forward to a submersible race to test out their prototype Barracuda, in an effort to enjoy their own special brand of rest and relaxation.

But then a Japanese cargo ship cruising the Eastern Atlantic near the Azores bursts into flames. When a gang of pirates try to take advantage of the disaster, their own boat explodes. And Austin and Zavala find they’ve got no choice but to investigate.

The discovery of ships and planes littered across the sea floor in an underwater graveyard lead the NUMA team to the research of a top scientist, who recently disappeared off the streets of Geneva. Somehow connected to the decades-old defection of a mysterious citizen of the USSR, the scientist’s studies on magnetics may offer answers. But Austin and Zavala will have to seek help from another Russian operative if they are going to find out the truth.

Filled with the high-stakes suspense and boundless invention that are unique to Cussler, Devil’s Gate is one of the most thrilling novels yet from the grand master of adventure.

Another five star!

Would you listen to Devil's Gate again? Why?

Definitely Yes. Story had many characters, much action, good plot development. Much back and forth between scenes / characters. Found myself "rewinding" to make sure I hadn't missed anything. Would eagerly listen to this book again now that I better understand the twists and turns in the plot. Could now listen continuously without having to occasionally "rewind."

What other book might you compare Devil's Gate to and why?

Almost all of CC's books utilize a similar type of flash from one scene to another. Several characters appear in CC's books. Each set of characters has a small subplot related to the major plot.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick is phenomenal in his portrayal of male, female, and foreign dialect voices. No problem ever identifying what role he is playing at any given moment.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The dramatic escape from the minisub and the utilization of the robot Rapunzel in this escape.

Any additional comments?

I NEVER hesitate to burn a credit for a CC book narrated by Scott Brick. I've NEVER been disappointed. Five star in all categories!!

Awesome....

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott has a voice that has been tuned to the same frequency as Cussler... he has read a number of them, and now when I hear one he did not read, it takes me a while to start enjoying it..... Cussler and Brick, a number one combo!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Frequent Listener

I have to say that I have read or listened to over 12 of Clive Cusslers books, next to the Will Lee book "Chiefs", this is my second favorite book. Suspensful, well read and entertaining. No it isn't great literature, but it kept me interested and engaged. I was a little disappointed in "The Jungle", but this one made up for it.

My style of story

This book was exactly for my taste. Fast paced with lot of adventures. Strong characters. Cool mass destruction weapon, which was destructed by the end, of course. I don't know why I haven't read Cussler novels before, but I definitely will.

Jury's Still Out

I struggled to finish this. wordy in places, lacking in ...something..just not sure what. Didn't have the old Clive spark to the dialog.

devils gate part 1

Not one of Cusslers best, but still an interesting story. I have picked it up and put it down a few times. Not as gripping as some of his stories
