Story
Darrick Lang is coming home. Years ago he left the town of Bramwell to walk the wide world as a soldier of fortune and champion of the realm. But Bramwell is not as he left it. Something dark and terrifying has ensnared the townsfolk, something very old and very patient, tangling innocents in a web of malice and profaning the very earth itself. Now that same power calls to Darrick, and his only hope may be to walk the same perilous path of damnation.

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Grueling, dark, and full of grit
It's a horror political intrigue drama. The story focuses on cursed armor of a long dead war lord looking to become whole again. The main character is forced to help it again his will, and any forces are looking to take the armor to gaining its power.
The reading was good, none of the characters sounded alike except the 2 old wizards in the big city.

Not as good as I remember
I read this book back in 2002 and loved it. I was in the midst of Baal and cow runs in Diablo 2 and came across this title in a bookstore and had to pick it up. recently, with the announcement of Diablo 2 Resurrected I was excited to see that Audible had a copy. despite the mixed reviews, I figured I'd give it a listen. While the narrator does his best to hold the listener's attention, it's poorly written and cumbersome at times. Sadly, I can't recommend listening unless you're a diehard fan in need of content.

A great first audio book
I chose this book as my first Audible book because I'm already invested in the Diablo universe, and this story did not disappoint. The performance was great, with perfect annunciation and pronounciation, and with distinct voices for each character.
The only issue I had at all is petty at best, but some of the writing felt like the author was in dire need of a thesaurus. Take a shot every time eyes are called "orbs" and you probably won't make it through the book.

Despite franchise. My ears can't stop listen...
... I normally don't find stories based on games, or vice versa, that intriguing or exciting. Yet I couldn't stop listening to this, even when I'm at work. A simple line of story, yet the details are putting me right into that dark gloomy atmosphere I long for. Simple yet so good. :)
