Story
After saving the grim and gritty alien city of Down Here from something big, mean, and mind-bendingly horrible, Dan is looking forward to unwinding in the closest available bar. Annoyingly, the universe has other ideas. Instead, Dan finds himself investigating a cheating husband, two horrible murders, and the potential enslavement of everyone in the galaxy. With his caseload stretching his woefully limited detective skills, his car in pieces, and the whole "being dead" thing not doing him any favors, Dan has no choice but to ask his friends for help.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Publisher's Summary
The Space Team Universe just got a whole lot darker.
In an alien city torn apart by crooked cops and ruthless criminals, private detective Dan Deadman specializes in cases unusual and bizarre.
Sure, he doesn't smell great, and he's technically been dead for quite some time, but if you've got a rampaging Hell-beast tearing up your street, or a portal to another dimension appearing in your bathroom, Dan's your man.
After saving a mysterious young woman named Ollie from the clutches of something big, slimy, and unpleasant, Dan gets entangled in a missing child case, a string of grisly murders, and a severed woman's arm that just won't leave him alone.
And then there's the demonic entity who'll stop at nothing to get its tentacles on Ollie, even if it means destroying the whole damn planet.
Times like these, Dan would give his right nut to be a real detective.
If he still had nuts.
From the world of Space Team: The Guns of Nana Joan, Dial D for Deadman is the first darkly comedic action adventure novel starring Dan Deadman, Space Detective.

Great Addition to the Space Team Universe
After reading the Space team series I immediately reached for the Deadman series. It did not disappoint. The humor is a bit more deadpan and drier than Cal and the SpaceTeam series but excellent all the same.
The mystery and SciFi mixture is done quite well and blends well. If you like the colorful characters like those in the Space Team universe and a good ol' fashioned detective story give this one a go. May you enjoy it as much as I did.

Listen to Deadman Books1-3 before Space Team Book9
The end of the Dan Deadman series leads right into the beginning of Space Team Book 9: The King of Space Must Die. I wish I knew this beforehand, but it still made me re-listen to Space Team book 9 once I finished the 3 Deadman books so... maybe it all worked out actually.
Either way, thank you Barry J Hutchison for creating one of the best literary scifi universes.

As weird as it gets.. in a dark galaxy far away
Dan Deadman has a peculiar name, but very appropriate since he is dead. On the bright side, he can stitch his body back together and will not die in a fight, but he is dead... and stinks. As a private detective, Dan focus on weird monsters and it's during an assignment that he meets Ollie and then things get weirder - even for Dan. I enjoyed this story, even though part of the Space Team catalogue it is hugely different. The book is set in a darker scenery and is less silly, but equally funny and adventurous. Dan is trying to finding a missing girl and realising he is not much of a detective. Ollie is my favourite and I am pleased to see her staying as a main character. Phil Thron does a tremendous job voicing this one, well done!

Worth Listening
As a stand-alone book, and I assume and hope, series, the characters are awesome and I am really looking forward to the next in the series. The Irish dudes profanity had me actually smiling and laughing out loud, as the delivery of these lines by the narrator was flawless. The only downside for me, was that being a fan of the awesome Space Team series, the voice for Dan was the same as Mechs, but do not let that make you miss out on a great listening opportunity. 10 out of 5!

Returned - let down after Space Team
What would have made Dial D for Deadman: A Space Team Universe Novel better?
I don’t know, but this is boring. Dumb storyline, not funny.
What was most disappointing about Barry J. Hutchison’s story?
Boring
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Phil Thron?
Narrator is excellent
