Publisher's Summary

James Patterson tells the most heartbreaking story of our time, as only he can—Diana’s life as a princess and a mother—timed to the 25th anniversary of her death. “Entertaining and persuasive.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Royal fans will devour this well-paced biography that gives new insight into the House of Windsor. You’ll tear through it by sundown and walk away thinking about the Princess of Wales and her two sons with new perspective .” –Men’s Journal

From the moments William and Harry are born into the House of Windsor, they become their young mother’s whole world.

I’ve got two very healthy, strong boys. I realize how incredibly lucky I am, Diana reminds herself every morning. But even the Princess of Wales questions, Am I a good mother?

Diana’s faced with a seemingly impossible challenge: one son destined to be King of England and another determined to find his own way. She teaches them to honor royal tradition, even while daring to break it.

“Sometimes I’d like a time machine…” Diana says as William and Harry grow up, never imagining they’d have less than a lifetime together. Even after she’s gone, her sons follow their mother’s lead—and her heart. As the years pass and William and Harry grow into adulthood and form families of their own, they carry on Diana’s name, her likeness, and her incomparable spirit.

“James Patterson applies his writerly skills to real-life history with novelistic style” (People) in this deeply personal and revealing biography of the world’s most storied family, from the world’s #1 bestselling author.

Dear Listener,

Why did I decide to tell this story?
"'She was simply the best mother in the world,' is what William and Harry said of their mom in a speech they wrote together. There have been dozens of biographies and thousands upon thousands of articles about her, but the reason I wrote this book is that her life as a mother was both incredibly emotional and dramatic, and it has been undertold. Diana broke from royal tradition and did not pass the boys off to nannies. This is the story of how she was their mother and all that happened to her, and to them, as a result. It is also a compelling story of what happened to William and Harry as a result of their mother’s untimely death. I’ve never written a true-life story so compelling, and so moving. She was more than a candle in the wind. Diana was, and should remain, a beacon for us all." – James Patterson, writer of Diana, William, and Harry

Not what I expected.

I purchased this title because of my admiration, love and respect for Lady Diana Spencer. I simply enjoy reading about her.

However, as I listened to, and read the prologue my blood began to boil and I asked
“How could he possibly know what she was thinking and feeling as the accident was happening?”

But I decided to continue and give Mr. Patterson the benefit of the doubt. Alas, during the first 10 pages of chapter one he continues to suppose her inner emotions and I found myself becoming angrier with the narrator’s every word.

As for the narrator, albeit Lady Diana’s fate I found his baritone tone somber and far too depressing.

With due respect, I suggest that perhaps Mr. Patterson should continue to dedicate his imagination to works of fiction.

Great story poorly designed

While I enjoyed the story immensely I have to say it was so poorly presented as to be confusing and off putting. The final chapters were a word for word repeat of earlier chapters and I found myself celebrating the birth of the first child of William and Kate after they’d already had their third child. So messy a construction it totally ruined the whole thing.

Compassion

I hesitated before I read this book. After all so much has been written about Princess Diana but the title grabbed me so I started the book. It was a read that grabbed me from the beginning of the book straight to the end hrs later. The compassion and caring the authors showed in writing this book was evident from the very start of the book until the very last word. The humanity of Princess Diana, William and Harry was representative of very talented writers, writing from their hearts, in telling the real story of such sadness but with the glimmer of hope at the end of the book, that the monarchy will allow change and include Megan and Harry again.

Boring

Very disappointed in this book, James Patterson should stick to fiction. Forced myself to finish it, not much I didn’t already know from reading other sources about Diana. Over all pretty boring book.

Great Coverage of Royal Family

The timeline hops around, but the performance is fantastic and the overall story feels full and respectful to the royal family.

eye opening and full of heart

no sides taken here no bomb shell moments, just wonderful inside glimpses into the whole story (so many chapters of the story). every moment given in the sound bites and sensationalized or 25 second snippets is fleshed out, given the benefit of inside info brings rhe human side out and helps illustrate that they are a family. excellent listen, heart warming and personal.

Neutral

This book seems to only supply information and does not insert any personal thoughts of the writer nor does it try to push the reader to any conclusions.
I truly feel sorry for every last member of the royal family. Basically they are welfare recipients of the country, they are not allowed to do much of anything without people in the country feeling as though they should have a say and despite their supposed family first mantra, they don’t support one another in the very important things. It’s sad.

Long live the royals

Wonderfully written and presented. I didn’t want it to end. The royals were treated with respect.
