Publisher's Summary

When Sir Peter Pendragon, a retired pilot of the Great War, meets the free-spirited Louise, a devotee of the mysterious occultist Basil King Lamus, the two immediately get married and set off across Europe, on a drug-fueled honeymoon of heroin and cocaine. Eventually, in an attempt to break free of their recently acquired habit, the newlyweds find their way to the Abbey of Thelema in Italy, where the adults perform invocations to the sun and the children freely recite passages from the Book of the Law. At the guiding hand of King Lamus, the sisters of the Abbey maintain magical diaries, practice strange rituals, and pursue their true will. But what will become of Peter and Lou?

Amazing voiceover

I have read this book. it is excellent! usually I prefer the voice over which my imagination provides. However, this is one of the few exceptions where the voice over on Audible was far superior!

Book and performance are absolutely fantastic!

From the beginning, I was enthralled in this book, and the narrator makes it so much better! With the different voices, and even singing, Shea Taylor does it brilliantly!

The descriptions used in the book, and how they’re worded are also so great! This book taught me things and made me laugh a few times, I’m definitely going to give this another listen at some point!

10/10 definitely recommend!

excellent story of the perils of addiction

I loved it and lived it. The language was some what ancient but enjoyable. the book flows well with even when the writer is carrying on about philosophy. I found the best part in the end. worth reading if you've ever been down that road.

positively enthralling and poetically ravaging

never heard a book read so beautifully and the writings be so emotional and intellectual with a dash of debauchery. definitely top 5 favorite book ever.

Best book I’ve read

Review requires at least 15 words. I say to damn with your requirements, filthy Audible. And to damn with your profiting off of the work of others you lazy, insolent, greedy, corporation.

Blown away

Powerful story. Tremendous performance by the narrator. I would probably enjoy anything Shea Taylor read. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire 13 hours.

A pursuit of moral, spiritual and religious values

An insightful book into both the world of drug addiction and also our own various addictions; and the pursuit of moral, spiritual and religious values. Beautifully poetically written and narrated. A surprisingly enjoyable and entertaining read about a harsh and difficult subject.

Brilliantly red but too long

Although the Russian very witty parked in the story, the overall idea is simply wrong Haddad, and he was a lot of indulgence. However, is one of the best ratings I have heard.

Insightful occult classic

Given the importance to occult history, a novel by A. Crowley would naturally inspire curiosity. But, does it capture the reader and enable an insight into a historical world?
Most certainly.
I was somewhat reserved in approaching this book as Crowley’s history almost predetermined my expectations.
The listener will discover a true classic that pulls back the curtain of an eon past.
Well worthwhile.
The voice artist that recorded this and the team of editors have done an amazing reading!
