Publisher's Summary

If I'm as straight as I always thought, why does kissing my best friend feel so right?

Zach has been my ride-or-die since we were nine. Business partners, roommates, best friends... we do everything together. But the last thing either of us expected was to be staring 40 in the face just as single as we both were when we made a silly, drunken marriage pact 20 years ago.

The problem?

Zach is gay...and, well, I’m not.

Under pressure from family, that pact comes rushing back, and I lock us into a fake engagement. But is it possible some part of me wants it to be real?

Convincing Zach I’m legit is another story. With each passing day, I wonder if my feelings of affection for my best friend can morph into the love I desperately want in my life. Something in Zach’s eyes tells me we can have it all if we just try.

It may have taken me a lifetime to see Zach with new eyes, but with every touch and discovery, it’s been worth the wait. On the edge of Dirty Forty, it’s time to go for it.

All I have to do is convince Zach it’s real.

Dirty Forty is a best-friends-to-lovers, marriage pact, demi/bisexual awakening featuring 30 years of pining, a fake engagement, curious kisses, and two guys finally embracing what’s always been in front of them.

Its a really good story but........

KINDA SPOILER, BUT NOT REALLY
Ok so the main story is a great concept. I love the best friends to lovers trope and this one ticks all the boxes. BUUTTTTT.....it was too stretched out. There is like an hours worth of listening after we are given an "ending". I mean, I get it, there's another conflict but it is so not necessary. Like did the writer have a word quota she had to meet? Parts of the story are completely pointless. The concept is great, but it is just lackluster writing. Even the sex isn't great. The narrators saved this for sure. I got to certain point and just skipped to the end. Not going to listen again.

The character depth of a porno

I usually try to be more understanding, but this book has STELLAR reviews, and I don't see why. Neither character had ANY personality what so ever - and their conversations don't make any sense. Maybe they would if you actually saw inside the characters' minds some, but by chapter 3 that hadn't happened yet.

Friends til the end

I love a good Friends to lovers romance and surely this one did Not disappoint!
The sweetness, the caring, the 'let's be sure' of everything as the story rolls along. Everyone is so excepting, as it should be in the real world but sadly is not. This story is perfect. Mia Monroe, you have a soft heart and a sensual way with words. I'm on the hunt for more of your work!
As always, Tim and Liam bring the characters to life in a way the listeners love. I wouldn't have picked better narrators to do this book.
on to the next!

Good story. Good narration.

I picked this audiobook up because it was on sale. I hadn't read anything by Mia Monroe before, and I am really glad I snagged this book.

Dominic and Zach are fun to get to know. Their interactions have that soothing and comfortable feeling that you get from being around people who truly enjoy each other's company.

This was one of the rare times I feel like the author had a firm understanding of demisexuality. It's usually portrayed as 'gay for you' and even more often, just mistaken as that trope. Since I am demisexual, I appreciate it when the author obviously does their research. There were a few moments of over explaining sexuality that didn't entirely feel natural to the story, but I prefer that over inaccurate info. Honestly, I wanted to jump up and say, " yes, that's what it's like!", for a good portion of this book.

Overall a very sweet and enjoyable read with great narration.

Best Friends To Lovers Keeping Promises!

I loved the ebook, the paperback and now I'm in love with the audiobook. Dom and Zach giving us a glimpse of what it's like to have a life changing awakening in their Forties, while also trying to preserve a lifetime worth of friendship.
I adore Dom and even if Zach drove me crazy, I understood where he was coming from.
Mia's choice of narrators are perfect for this story. I can't wait for more of her books to go on audio.

Low angst, high heat, lots of friendship, snark, loving family and happily ever after -- if these are your jam, then this one is for you. Don't take my word for it, you have to just listen. ^_^

Sealing Their Pact

Friends from childhood, Dominic and Zach more or less did everything together. But, as the big 40 is approaching, they both still find themselves single.
A pact made made when they were younger comes into play and Dom gets to realise that there is more to himself than he knew.

A fantastic best friend's to lovers romance. We get to see these characters relationship evolve to the next level as they both finally get to have what was right in front of them all along.
Many tropes are touched on in this plot which makes this story enjoyable.

The dual narrarion makes this an excellent tale to listen to. The narrators did an amazing job in bringing the characters to life. A highly recommended audio for sure.

sooo good!!

Dominic and Zach have been best friends since they were children. Zach has been in love with Dominic since they were teenagers. Dominic is straight. They make a pact when they’re twenty-one to marry each other if they are not married to anyone else. I loved these two so much. Their journey together was fantastic!! Dominic had to slowly sink into love. I loved the silver fox, best friends to lover’s troupe. Tim and Paige and Liam DiCosimo did a great job with the dual narrative.

I love this story!

I love this story and its characters so much that I listen to it again every two months or so. It’s a feel good story, with some cocky lines and unreal scenarios (straight friend tells his family he is marrying his gay bf and prepares a wedding and all) but I expected it and it’s part of the charm. If you’re in the mood for a cute romance story, friends to boyfriends, this is your book, you won’t regret it. (It’s not silly)

I LOVED the Demi awakening and seeing that develop in Dom and him work through his feelings for Zach!

These boys were on fire and it was such a sweet and sexy and beautiful story!

Forty and still kicking

Story: Two men approaching forty and a marriage pact from the past that comes to life. I loved the feelings that bloomed between Zach and Dominic and the slow exploration of their attraction! The story is hot and fun, but also thougthfully written and very mature in approach to the emotions! It was a great read!
Narration: A great voice and very good performance!

Forced M/M fan fiction rather than a novel.

The acting was superb. My problem was the writing in every sense. The characters aren't developed, for they keep switching personalities over and over, and they're supposed to be 40 but talk and act as if they're 15-20 years old.
The story started great and funny, and it suddenly switched to tedious. It was like listening to a Wikipedia essay on how to be gay and every single politically correct term there is, instead of a love story between two friends realizing they love each other.

The story is forced and convenient. It feels uncomfortable to see how they keep seeing other people just because the plot needs it, there's no falling in love, is more like a forced "oh so out of nowhere I fell for you, and since you're gay and I'm hot, I'm not even going to ask if my best friend loves me cuz its a must and convenient." not good.
Also, you can tell even the writer thinks her characters are dumb for they keep saying... "I can't believe we are doing this, this is so stupid." I mean... If you need to make your characters say they think what their doing is stupid for 10 times... Then don't make them that stupid.

Fun best friend to lovers story

Absolutely loved the book . Zach and Dominic have been friends since they were nine years old. Zach being in love with Dominic, but Dominic being straight. On their twentieth birthday they decide to get married when their forty if they have not found anyone.
Going from friends to lovers is easy for Dominic but harder for Zach , but very well written.
The narration is brilliant , bringing the emotion and love through.

Super friends to lover's story

A brand new author to me but wasn't disappointed. Loved the story between Zack and Dominic. Tim Paige and Liam DiCosimo are just the perfect pair to have brought it all to life.
