Publisher's Summary

King Boric the Implacable knows death comes to all great warriors. He just didn't expect it to be so damn fickle. Felled by an assassin's blade, he should be spending eternity carousing in the Hall of Avandoor. Instead, his spirit is bound to his decaying body by the enchanted sword of Brakslaagt. And unless he can hunt down the mysterious Lord Brand, who gave him the weapon so long ago, he is cursed to wander the earth forever as an undead wraith. So begins Boric's extraordinary journey across the Six Kingdoms of Dis as a walking corpse who wants nothing more than to be disenchanted and left in peace. His is not an easy quest: along the way he is burned, riddled with arrows, and nearly blown to bits. But when he finally comes face-to-face with Lord Brand, Boric will discover that nothing - in life, in death, or in between - is exactly what it seems.

FOR GROVLICK SAKE

HATRED IS THE COLD FROG WITHIN YOUR BOOT.
I have to fully agree with MATTHEW, THE POLITICIAN FROM LITTLE ROCK, this is a GOOD TIME KILLER NOVEL and is CLEVER AT TIMES. It starts out extremely funny with the whole suicidal sheep gag. After that it is not as funny, but does have it's moments. It is also a quest fantasy novel or a satire of one?(also stolen from MATTHEW). I was a little confused at the beginning with the switching back and forth in time, but soon caught on. This will never be my favorite anything, but was a fun listen. I will buy the sequels if they also go on sale, but only if.

Q: WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?
A: RABBIT STEW
Phil Gigante was the perfect narrator for this and he made it even better.

Warning, do not listen in public

Would you consider the audio edition of Disenchanted to be better than the print version?

Two words Phil Gigante!

What other book might you compare Disenchanted to and why?

Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy meets Lord of the Rings, writing with a Monty Python flare.

Which scene was your favorite?

suicidal sheep

Any additional comments?

This writer is wonderful and so funny!! Having Phil read it was magic, and I couldn't imagine it any other way. He read it with such seriousness and I can't think how someone else could pull it off. Just don't read it in public or while running. The first will get you really weird looks, the latter will make it hard to breath through all the giggling! What a great fun book! I would recomend to any age, any gender. My 15 year old son loved it too!

Dead man walking.

This fantasy is the adventure of King Boris trying to separate his spirit from his body so he can go to heaven. I was expecting the story to be funny and it was mildly amusing at parts but in no way as funny as Christopher Moore whom this book was compared to. Overall the writing is very vivid and I can picture the events that take place very clearly. Unfortunately I'm a character driven reader and I did not like King Boris. Yes he has the typical Middle Ages mentality but I thought he was an Ass, but admittedly a very well written one. The writing itself was good and I liked the adventure behind the man so I finished the book. I purchased this with Whispersync and for a few bucks it wasn't too bad. Phil Gigante was good, I have always enjoyed his voice.

Entertaining, Not Epic. Funny and Interesting.

This book is good stuff. It's a quest/finding-yourself type fantasy but it it not the long epic kind. Its is the entertaining and interesting kind. The plot was just complex enough to be interesting without that epic fantasy feel that can bog you down sometimes if you are not in the mood for it. The entire book was funny, but it was also surprisingly thought provoking. I had read the book previously and liked it so much I decided to add on the narration and give it a go. A very enjoyable listen. The narrator was great.

Will Bad Timing Doom Boric's Power Rankings?

Would you consider the audio edition of Disenchanted to be better than the print version?

never read the book, so.......

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Itrith. She is key to the story. She drops a bunch of super funny lines and has no qualms about putting Boric the Implacable in his place. I totally agree with her scorekeeping for Boric's deeds. If this book ever went hollywood whoever played the Itrith would have to be a no excuses rocket. She deserves nothing less.

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wide range of unique character voices and good timing. He does a solid job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Bought it last night and finished it today. Story keeps a nice pace and doesn't wander.

Any additional comments?

Get this book. You will laugh many a time. Totally worth the price.

Clever Humor

Any additional comments?

Clever at times, always entertaining.

This is a good time-killer novel. I'm not really sure I see the satire in it. It seems it would be better to just say this is a light comedy novel that pokes a bit of fun at high fantasy worlds in general.

I do not regret reading this, as I said, it is a good time-killer, or maybe pallet cleanser.

I recommend this book to anyone that feels like reading, but doesn't want anything too serious.

Not what I was expecting (in a good way)

If you could sum up Disenchanted in three words, what would they be?

Better than expected.

What other book might you compare Disenchanted to and why?

The books of A Lee Martinez offer the same kind of humorous fantasy settings, always with a twist.

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Phil is a very good narrator. I have several audiobooks he has read and he always does a good job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to it at work, and pretty much did listen to it in one sitting- or in one day at least.

Any additional comments?

I was going to give this book 3 stars, but then, toward the end, things happened that made me think I was going to give the book a lower rating, but in the very end, things turn around so completely that I had to give the book 4 stars. If you hit a point where you think you want to stop, keep going.

Monty Python fans will laugh hardest!

Is this story a back-door Lord of the Rings parody? Perhaps not, but LOTR fans will identify with kings made wraiths, and Monty Python fans will love the scene with the traveling Knights. This story amused me, but kept me guessing too. I didn't see the end coming and it was a nice surprise. If you love fantasy stories but don't take them too seriously, this is the book for you.

Fun read, and worth a listen, too.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. It was the first I'd read by Kroese, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I also tend to be pretty skeptical of farcical books, but I found this one to be well done, and actually funny.

The characters are interesting, and the story twists are surprising, especially toward the end. There was one fairly cliché sexist moment in the plot, and it kind of pissed me off. However, the female character involved was pretty well represented in the rest of the book as an intelligent, caring, and important person. This compared to the much-less-intelligent lead male character.

I read most of the book on Kindle, but it came with free audio narration by Phil Gigante, and I listened to the last quarter. I wish I'd listened to the whole thing because he's one of the best audiobook narrators I've heard and made the story even more fun.

Great to listen to.

Great narrator, I often find when a male narrator has to do a female voice when the story requires it, that it sounds ridiculous and overdone. But not in this reading.
I enjoyed the lighthearted fantasy aspect of the story too. Not too heavy or any feeling of self importance.
The only fault I have to mention is that the story sometimes jumps in a really strange way. Almost like a cd skipping forward a song.

Worth getting whispersync

Not sure if this is worth the full price but I got it when the book was $0.00 on kindle and then got it with wisphersync. It's not a bad book, in fact I found it amusing, it's just that it goes between past and present too much that I thought there were two main characters.
