Story
Finally settled into her new world and role as the Goddess Epona's Chosen, Shannon finds herself loving her life of luxury and service more and more each day. Her handsome husband is due to return from his travels soon, and the temple and its people have recovered from the terrible war months before. Even though the evil has been banished from the land and all is calm, Shannon can't seem to shake the cloud of uneasiness (and nausea) she's been feeling. When a routine ride through the countryside turns dangerous, Shannon is once again pulled across the divide - back to Oklahoma.

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff - and even fuller-time coffee guzzler - Sunshine Vicram, didn't get that memo. All Sunshine really wants is one easygoing day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with takeout pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

Publisher's Summary
It's the beginning of summer break, and high school English teacher Shannon Parker is ready to relax poolside with some red wine and a good book. She's friggin' earned it! But first - a little shopping, à la fancy estate auction.
Surrounded by old folks and even older artifacts, Shannon never expects to find something that shocks her down to her very core: an ancient vase, complete with a beautiful painting of a goddess that looks just like her. And just as she's stealing away with her seriously suspicious purchase, she's magically thrown into the world of Partholon, where not only has she taken the place of Rhiannon, Goddess Incarnate and Epona's Chosen, but she's due to be married to a surly (but oh-so-handsome) High Shaman centaur, ClanFintan.
But serving as Epona's Chosen isn't just luxury baths and buff horse-guys. A dark power grows in the wastelands to the north, and Rhiannon will need much more than just the favor of Epona to protect the land - and the man - she's grown to love.

Skip if rape is a trigger
I really enjoy a good quirky character and this hit the mark. Shannon was funny and well educated while knowing her faults.
Lorelei King is also one of my favorite readers, making this fantastic... until you get to the multiple rape scenes and demon birth scene. A quirky funny book is not the place for multiple scenes violating women and girls in bloody prose.

Another gem for my collection!
At times, this tale had me cackling. At others, it had me in tears. I enjoyed every minute of it! Phenomenal story. Excellent vocal performance. Action. Romance. Magic. Humor. This story has it all and kept me engaged from the very beginning! I highly recommend this tale, as well as the rest of PC Cast's work!

Excruciating
I purchased this book because of the reader and a promising story line. However, it barely kept my attention. The heroine was whiney and hard to like and the description of everything was so overdone.
It could have been a third as long and been twice as good.

3.5 Stars. It Got Better
While bringing up another memory or remark to describe or add to a situation is something we all do, Shannon does it A LOT!
She makes a lot of snarky one liners, ad libs, and references male movie stars that quickly became too much. It was like she was trying too hard. I got the point 3 sentences ago. In the 1st act of the book, it was an end to every sentence. Overdone. It did slow down towards the middle and the end.
I read this through the Escape FKA Romance Package. They did not give it a "steam" meter, but it would fall in the sweet category. Like a Kristen Painter novel or a sitcom. My current mood wanted a teeny bit more in the romance bedding department along with a well thought out fantasy plot, but it was still sweet and the story was good enough.
The hero was gallant. I guess I'm just not that into Centaur men. The pain he had to go through for them to be together was a lot. And the 1 time he pleases her in his natural form while she bounced on his back just didn't do it for me. At. All. Sorry.
I'll hold off on reading book 2 for a while. 1st time reading this author. I guess reading something new while you're waiting for another book to be released is not the best if you're still going through book withdrawal lol.
Narrator was great. Love the command she has over her voice and the life she gave to the characters.

Picked this book up waiting to leave for deployment.
My normal reading is historical romance. But let me just say Love with P.C. Cast and the way her writing style is pulls you into the story as if you are right there in it no matter the character you wish to become in her books.

Ok I guess.....
I am kind of sorry about this story. I tried so hard to like it. However when ever something interesting would start to happen it just kind of fell fast I am sorry to say. Not to mention how easily things come to pass. It feels like their should be at least a little more emotional conflict here or something... I am sorry for how vague I am being. I am just having a real hard time with this person. Ether she knows what she is doing or not, it has my head spinning with how competent she can be with only turning into someone the has no clue. Sorry for the unfiltered thoughts. Anyways the person that did the reading I enjoyed very much so. Thanks all.

Spoiler given in preface and it go down from there.
Spoilers given by the author before the story start without any warnings. The main character is unbearably catty. She bitches about technology and if any other person doesn’t agree with her views she denigrates then as stupid. I only got a couple of hours into the story before I gave up and wished I had done it sooner.
