Publisher's Summary

Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.

To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done.

But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.

Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick's ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.

In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She'll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.

But first, she must survive the night.

Awful plot, worse narrator

I love a good suspenseful thriller and this is not it. Full of clichés and a ridiculous premise. The narrator’s voice was truly annoying.

Loved it!

I enjoyed this so much. Fast paced and spooky. Great narrators. Freida McFadden is becoming one of my favorite authors.

Excellent story!

I absolutely love this book! The story is twisty and told from different perspectives. It kept me guessing and listening!

The only downside was the female narrator. Her inflection didn’t seem to make sense for some of the characters.

Overall though, it’s with a listen! Such a fun, creepy thriller!

Not a winner

I pre-ordered this book based on its great reviews on another website. This was my first book by this author, and I didn't enjoy her wordy, repetitive writing style. The storyline didn't engage me, and the silly twists near the end left me rolling my eyes. I didn't appreciate the "little girl" voice of the narrator. I did finish the book, but not before I cranked up the speed.

Good but not gripping

This is the second Freida Mcfadden book I've read and to be honest it was a disappointment. The first book I read (The Housemaid) was exceptional but I thought this one was a little predictable and quite monotonous. I found myself continuing with it out of the sake of finishing it rather than because I was gripped. The Psycho references a little lazy and obvious but it was still worth reading if you just want something to kill some time.
