A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Not intended for listening
As a huge fan of all Doctor Who stories, I have listened to many by now. It is nice that this collection is interspersed with interviews, and that the recordings are obviously original, but the sound effects are way too loud compared to the voices.
I wish there was a way to optimize volumes to personal preferences, so that the annoying way the Daleks and that androgynous character could be turned down to almost zero, while still being able to understand their phrases.

Great value for great stories
What made the experience of listening to Doctor Who: Classic TV Adventures Collection One the most enjoyable?
Definitely worth the price, even if you already have one or two of the stories in the collection. The episodes are great to begin with, and its nice having them all in one collection so I'm not installing seven different audiobooks. I'm planning on getting Collection 2 when that comes out as well.
What other book might you compare Doctor Who: Classic TV Adventures Collection One to and why?
This reminds me of the Adventures in History collection and the Yeti Attacks! collection
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, I've listened to multiple Doctor Who soundtracks and these are just as good as some of the others

A delightful blast from the past
This was a great collection of stories - I only wish there were more of them. Listening to them and to the old actors reminiscing makes me want to go back in time and experience them all live the way kids did when these first came out.
The conceit of adding a descriptive narrator to the original sound track is brilliant - it makes it feel like an old time radio show, and it's a wonderful way to experience these visual stories through a non-visual means (it also spares the listener the old, hokey special effects)

Great listen to actual Doctor Who Classic Seasons
These soundtracks reminded me when I was an adolescent and could only listen to Doctor Who on the radio, since the classic shows aired late at night. The action and story line kept me interested for the next episode. Great to have these audio's available. There are more season. Hopefully more will be available.

Fine for fans but not for me
As a child of the 70s I grew up with Tom Baker as the doctor. A golden age for the doctor until the new post 2000 generation. So I gave this a go, but I have to say that I found it pretty boring. The last story involving the Daleks was ok, but some of the others seemed to go on and on, especially the pirates and the second Peladon one. The conversations with the actors that pop up from time to time were mildly interesting but in the end I was glad to finish it and get back to a proper novel.

Love, Love, Love
What made the experience of listening to Doctor Who: Classic TV Adventures Collection One the most enjoyable?
I am a fan of Dr Who and used to watch the original series' so I am a bit biased. I loved the way they combined the original sound track with narration. It was more like listening to a play. It was very well done.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The music and sound effects sounded great.
The narration is very well written. It matched the style well and fitted in perfectly. The descriptions of the visuals had just the right amount of detail, describing what was happening but also how the characters would sometimes stumble and be awkward or dazed so that you could visualise what was happening when there was no audio.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have listened to a lot of audio books, but this is the first with original sound track and narration. The narrators were very good. Each episode was narrated by the actor who played the doctors assistant in that episode. It was interesting to hear short interviews from the narrators. I liked hearing the reminiscing and how they marvelled at how they were more famous now than when the show was filmed - more fan mail, and getting invited to events.
