Publisher's Summary

Communicate boldly and effectively like never before with the help and guidance of a number-one New York Times best-selling author and trusted Bishop.

In Don't Drop the Mic, Bishop Jakes speaks to listeners about communication and how the ways we speak and interact with others can be part of our everyday ministries. He helps listeners understand:

  • Why the way we speak and the words we use matter
  • How speaking well, no matter your topic or audience, improves your chances of getting the result you want
  • How to craft your message, whether it's a simple email or a speech under the spotlights, to connect with listeners
  • Why good communication is important for building connection and community
  • How sharing God's Word produces abundant fruit

Drawing lessons from Scripture and his own life, Jakes gives career advice for those who have or want to grow into a speaking career, but he also provides clear direction and insight for everyone who gives presentations, writes emails, or talks to other people in their job or home life.

There will be practical advice about how to craft insightful and meaningful communications, but the heart of this book is really about how we can communicate more clearly to build community and share the hope of Christ in our everyday lives.

The more adept we become at using all available resources to convey our message, the greater our impact. From lovers to litigators, entrepreneurs to entertainers, and bloggers to board members, we all want to communicate more effectively, intimately, and efficiently. Whether you're interviewing for a new position, proposing a new business plan, auditioning for a performance, delivering a report for your committee, teaching Sunday school, or sharing your heart with a loved one, this book will help.

TD JAKES DOEST NARRATE HIS BOOK ON SPEAKING

I’m extremely disappointed that bishop jakes, one of the best speakers that ever lived, doesn’t narrate his book on how to become a good communicator.

This book opens with a introduction read by bishop, which to me felt like I was being tricked into thinking he would read the entire book. He doesn’t 😠

I’ll get the hardback book instead. I can’t bear listen to this version of the book. I’m returning this audio version.

Difficult to enjoy using Audiobooks

The reader did not do justice for the listener. He was monotone and did not capture the brilliance of TD Jakes. His narration made the text boring.

T.D. Jakes Doesn't Narrate His Book On Speaking

I bought this book because it is well written, but I assumed an audiobook on a book about the power of the spoken word would be narrated by the author, but that does not happen. T.D. Jakes only bothers to narrate the Introduction and the rest of the over 10 hours is narrated by some guy name Brad Sanders. I tried to listen to Brad Sanders, but it was unbearable realizing I was hearing T.D. Jakes written words spoken by a man who sounds nothing like him. I couldn't make it through the first chapter and asked for a refund. I know T.D. Jakes is a busy person, but he couldn't find the time (10.5 hours) to narrate his own book about the power of the spoken word? Even Barack Obama found 29 hours to narrate his book A Promised Land, which truly is an amazing book and audiobook. T.D. Jakes should have realized how much an impact his audiobook would have had upon the listener hearing his voice, so not only would they be listening to him speak, but also to him preach the words of the book enriching the experience. I was left feeling T.D. Jakes didn't bother to find the time to narrate his own best selling book even though he's considered one of the greatest modern day preachers. If Joel Osteen can narrate all his books, so can T.D. Jakes.

Losing respect for TD Jakes

Pastor Jakes is a powerful communicator. But he's jumped on the BLM train with both feet. He pretends that the biggest problem for the black community is police violence. But he knows that for every unarmed black man killed by the police there are nearly 1000 killed by black on black violence. Teaching disrespect for authority is only going to make the problem worse.
Sadly, the Bishop knows these facts but he's willing to compromise the truth to gain popularity. I am truly disappointed in him.

awful

very disappointing.
on the cover it appears that T.D. Jakes is one of two narrators.
He is only on the first few minutes.
I couldn't continue the book with the other narrator as I was expecting more of T..D. Jakes.

Narrator

Within 10 minutes I tried to return this title. I love listening to T.D. Jakes. This narrator made it very difficult to listen to. I stopped listening within 5 minutes. I know it’s a great message, however choosing a narrator with passion and an upbeat personality would make all the difference. Unfortunately, not a good choice as a narrator.

I just can't get into this book

I love TD Jakes but I have to say that I just can't get into this book. I wish I had purchased his previous book 'Crushing' instead. I really respect TD as a communicator and thinker amongst many things, so it almost pains me to write this but I've admittedly given up on reading this... which is a real shame!

Who knows, maybe in future I will appreciate it and return to it? As for now though, I feel like I've essentially wasted a credit. Not because he isn't a talented communicator but more because it feels like it's taking a while for this book to go somewhere. Perhaps others may love it but overall it's not for me.
