Publisher's Summary
When 12-year-old Sophie Williams went on a Girl Scout summer camp, she never returned home.
Three months later, her body is found inside her sleeping bag in the most frequented area of Cocoa Beach, and the town is outraged.
The girl isn't just any child. She's the town's most beloved surf idol, and it was believed that she could be the next Kelly Slater.
As another child, the son of a well-known senator is kidnapped, and the parents receive a disturbing video. FBI profiler Eva Rae Thomas - who has just returned to her hometown, divorced and out of a job - plunges into the investigation, breaking her promise to her children not to do police work again.
Local law enforcement, with her old flame Matt Miller in charge, are the ones who ask for her help in a case so unsettling that only she can solve it. But the deeper they dig, the deadlier it becomes for Matt and Eva Rae. Soon, everyone she holds dear is in grave danger as this case hits a little too close to home.
Don’t Lie to Me is the first book in the Eva Rae Thomas Mystery series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

I'm not a murder mystery kind of person I usually read science fiction, but this was a very nice change. it was very intriguing and very well written, the narrator was good as well. I loved the twist at the end, it made for a good story.

This was a very interesting story. It kept you guessing throughout the story. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was wrong. I love a good book that keeps you guessing. But it is so much better when the answer comes out of left field. Can’t wait for the rest of the story!

Poorly researched and executed
This book started out with some promise, but quickly slid into poorly developed characters, little knowledge the workings of law enforcement, and poorly handled emotions. Further, Rose doesn’t create the sense of urgency a kidnapping/murder story requires. Neither is there knowledge of how law enforcement (let alone the FBI) works. Example (and spoiler): one cop has just saved another who is wrestling with a killer. Also in the room are two children and the weeks-old corpse of their mother. One of the children is holding a gun pointing at his own face. The two cops engage in banal chit chat for awhile. Finally one moves over to the kid and takes the gun. Seriously? The story is riddled with such ridiculousness.
The reader is good, but not suited to a murder mystery. Her voice and delivery are too light.

I would have given zero stars if allowed
There is so much wrong with this book I don't even know where to start. The dialogue is off. There is nothing authentic about it. The main character, Eva, is simultaneously vying for worst mother of the year and worst FBI agent ever. She complains incessantly about her cold, uninterested mother while at the same time showing little to no interest in caring for her own children. The cops are wimps who cry at crime scenes while parents whose children have been murdered don't shed a tear. Everything about this book just feels all wrong. I really did try to like it but in the end I quit listening about halfway through. It just irritated me.

Great Series
Her stories are always packed with many cases. She brings you suspects, false information, then manages to tie it all together, to one person. They can be confusing at the different chapters of where and who they are. Her stories are different, and a no stopping is allowed when one starts.

Nothing New Here
As my title indicates, I did not like this audible book. I felt there was nothing new to the story, the plot was obvious and the performance was childish. Basically, the book tried to do too much from the perspective of characters, that too me at least, did not come across as realistic. Actually, I think the book was a "one" and I'm amazed I stuck with it to the end.

I wouldn't lie this book gets you thinking
I have listened to all the author's Jack Ryder books, so thought I would give this series ago too. The book is written in the same style as the Jack books with the story jumping around in time, explaining why the killer turned out that way. This does mean the story can become confusing but it is worth it in the end and I never saw the out come coming. The story is very much based around the main character and her family as she tries to find the missing children, home life isn't simple and with the main character damaged by an event in her past it makes for a roller coaster ride. The killer has a strong message to get across and it does make you think about the world we live in now. Off to start the next book to see where the author takes us next.
FBI agent Eva Rae has given up her high demanding job after her husband leaves her as a single mother of three to return to her home town and family. She doesn't get the quiet life she planned for because her home town is hiding a deadly secret. Children of divorced parents are going missing. Some have never turned up and others there bodies are being put on display. Eva is asked by her old boyfriend and the detective on the case for help. Especially when he receives a video of his own son trapped in a box. Can the pair out wit a deadly killer that likes to play games with children lives? Eva being a single parent herself starts to worry just what kind of place she has moved her children to and with time running out on the latest missing child, just who has the killer got his eyes on next?
The I liked the narrator she uses her voice well adding excitement and tension to the story, as well as a number of voices for the characters.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A terrible woman doing a bad job
This book is bloody awful. Eva Ray is a negligent mum and terrible FBI agent who doesn't understand her animosity to her own mother should be redirected at herself as she completely neglects her own kids whilst judging others for doing the same.
The police in America apparently shoot mothers holding kids and get off with no real examination.
All fathers are no good run offs and even the supposed good guy doesn't notice his own child has been misding for 2 months.
The kids don't talk like kids and apparently are just raising themselves. I didn't realise Christine was only 12 until maybe 90%.
It feels like Willow Rose hates being a mother and not a hero and makes her protagonist the same, in the end writing her own story.
It is an awful indictment of America if this is a true picture, and if not, just says more about the writer than the story.

Small Town Serial Murder
Who-dun-it set in a small coastal town in Florida where a serial murder spree is kicked off when a young female surfer turns up dead three months after she was taken from her tent at a Girl Scouts camp.
I dont know if 'single mother crime fighter' is classed as a subgenre of mystery/thriller but this series fits the bill. When she isnt investigating, talking to criminals or giving Matt advice you'll find Eva Rae trying to remember to buy more milk and forgetting school events to the disappointment of her three kids.
The first book in a series, it sticks close to Eva's family backstory and starts to build an underlying family mystery that I expect for carry through several of the books and stories. If you like crime solvers with personal trauma and mysteries I expect you'll really enjoy this.
