But One Decision isn't about taking one overwhelming big step; it's about starting with a single, important step that we have the choice to make every day: the decision to be authentic. Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept?

Publisher's Summary
The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.
In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World, six-time New York Times number-one best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw abandons traditional thinking and tells you the ugly truth about the users, abusers, and overall "bad guys" we all have in our lives. He also reveals the secrets of how they think and how they get to and exploit you and those you love. You'll gain incredible insight into these negative people, which he refers to as BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless), and you'll gain the tools to protect yourself from their assaults. Dr. Phil gives you the "Evil Eight" identifiers so you can see them coming from a mile away, as well as their "Secret Playbook", which contains the "Nefarious 15" tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially, and professionally. Life Code then focuses on you and your playbook, which contains the "Sweet 16" tactics for winning in the real world.
Edgy, controversial and sometimes irreverent, Dr. Phil again abandons convention to prepare you to claim what you deserve and claim it now. You take flying lessons to learn to fly, swimming lessons to learn to swim, and singing lessons to learn to sing. So, why not take winning lessons to learn to win?

Inevitable Reading for Successful People
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to many friends because it was a co-worker and dear friend who recommended it to me. Besides, this book is the handbook of practical strategies for life's inevitable challenges and unfair deals.
What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?
I would compare this book to Peck's "The Road Less Travelled" and some of John Maxwell's books, based on the emotional, spiritual, and holistic awakening the books inspire.
What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dr. Phil adds a personal touch. His instructive voice and encouraging words incite an awareness of the evil and adversary in our world and how equipped we should become to adequately deal with them.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. I was curious to hear similar experiences and how to conquer them and other experiences and how to overcome them. However, books as such are copious and cannot be digested in one sitting or course.
Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

listen today and put information to use today
If you could sum up Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code in three words, what would they be?
words of wisdom
What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?
many of the relationship and self help classics but a big difference is the focus is not on getting along well with others as being wise to people who would wish to undermine you no matter how positive, helpful and essential good you are to them and others
What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Enjoyed listening to his voice and funny texas sayings. Listening to the book over and over helped the information stick. I enjoy listening while driving or working. It gives extra exposure that I wouldn't get by setting down to read.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Getting specific information on dealing with conflict and using it in my life and watching the person attempt to use many of the negative attacking behaviors toward me that I was not only prepared for but very clear on my desired outcome. The experience was the most positive I have ever had in dealing with a difficult person. I was totally prepared and clear on my desired outcome and did not get off course by their response. I feel more confident in my ability to deal better in the future with difficult people and catching situations immediately instead of letting it fester because "I cant believe they said or did that". Now I am more aware that "oh yes I can beleive they would be capable of saying or doing that" and I won't be caught unaware again.

Read it, so don't mention it anymore Dr. Phil...
I REALLY think this is a great book. I think EVERY woman (especially Southern) should read it, since we are taught to be polite over anything else. Be polite, but DO NOT GIVE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. Very interesting points and I liked the spirit of the information. Highly recommended. Even though I think he mentions it WAY TOO much on his show.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code?
Stop giving people the benefit of the doubt.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
Life is a competition and we have to work hard to stay in the game.

Useful information and worth your time to listen
If you could sum up Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code in three words, what would they be?
Painfully, audible has formatted their reviews which makes writing a good review very difficult. But my three words would be TEDIOUS - McGraws introduction, which drags on and on and on, is very difficult to takeUSEFUL - McGraw resummarizes specialty reading for professionals by highlighting the antisocial and personality disordered individuals in terms non professionals can relate to - he calls them 'baiters'WORTHY - worth your time to listen even though you may be aware of some or much of the advice he dispenses
What did you like best about this story?
McGraw calls the antisocial personality disordered (narcissists, borderlines and sociopaths in professional terms accounting for up to 30% of the general population) BAITERS which refers to Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless- people who will hurt you in life. He describes them so that you might recognize them, which he calls the "tools" to recognize them - which he calls the “Evil Eight” (identifiers) so you can see them coming, and identifies their “Secret Playbook,” which contains the “Nefarious 15” tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially and professionally. McGraw then focuses on you (and your 'playbook'), which contains the “Sweet 16” tactics for winning in life and the real world.Basically, trust no one, recognize and understand the narcissistic and self serving deceit and manipulations of antisocially disordered people. McGraw never gives statistics but sub clinical antisocials account for at least 16-18% of the population and clinical antisocials about 8%, which is quite a large number of people. As McGraw said, you might be married to one, and you surely know several.McGraw then gives advice to 'get with it' and develop a positive goal oriented, competitively based series of personal goals for you to accomplish in life those things to maximize your own potential.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
NO question about it - the intro drags and drags on with what this book is going to do for you. My advice - suffer through it by doing something else while you listen. When he gets serious then listen more carefully.
What did you learn from Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code that you would use in your daily life?
Most people have not had serious run ins with antisocially disordered people or have failed to recognize past problems as such. And most don't know that these problems are caused by deceitful, manipulative predatory personalities. Dr. Phil gives you and me everyday tools to recognize the antisocial BAITERS and concepts to avoid or deal with them effectively.
Any additional comments?
A freeform comment area might be a better means to relay the audible content than this self-limiting format. Also, except for the ruthless self promotion of the book in the beginning, which is tedious, McGraw is effective as a narrator emphasizing useful and relevant concepts as he presents them.

Way to long to get started!
Well, first I will say I love Dr Phil. I quote him often. Yes, he went on and on about this book on his show, so it worked and I brought it. But, I have only listened to about the first 45 mins to an hour... I agree with other reviewers that he has just spent all that time telling me what he is going to tell me and how important it is. I got so bored and lost patience waiting for him to get to the content, that I gave up. I still have it in my library...but, it's been months and I still can't motivate myself to go back to it because of the slow start. if I had had the paper version, it would have been easier to see how long it was and how to skip all that.

Pure Dr. Phil.
Would you try another book from Phil McGraw and/or Phil McGraw?
Yes. He offers a fresh outlook and unique action plans.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Still a little negative. He says he is just keeping it real. He may be right, I just hope not.
Which scene was your favorite?
What he says about infidelity was wise.
Could you see Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I think it has. The Dr. Phil Show.
Any additional comments?
If you like this book, read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Covey. Dr. Phil borrowed heavily from him.

Wow---Life Changing
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend to a friend, and have, because if you are or have been prey for a baitor, it gives words and information on how to stand up for yourself and be heard. I also appreciated the verbage for a conversation with a friend who is talking about you. Wow-Soooo Useful!!!!!
What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?
I would also recommend "Shark and a Goldfish," by Jon Gordon
What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dr. Phil speaking brings his seriousness to each situation. I enjoyed it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me laugh and cry about so many years I have been willing to listen to lies from a baitor thinking it was my fault and there was something wrong with me. I love that I have a voice and will be more cautious from now on in future relationships.
Any additional comments?
I love it, and will listen/read and relisten/reread this book many, many times. I want to get this so that my life will be different. Thank you Dr. Phil...I am truly grateful.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to be better than the print version?
I think as readers we need both versions, the audio to listen to over and over until we get it. The print form allows us to mark and grow with our book marks.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code?
Understanding that things I have thought for YEARS someone was finally saying it.
Have you listened to any of Phil McGraw’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first but depending on the topics it might not be my last because I do enjoy his TV talk show
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code?
Its ok for me to not give people the benefit of the doubt and that it's ok to truly see people for what they are.

Life Code is excellent
Would you consider the audio edition of Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to be better than the print version?
Listening to the audio of Dr Phil McGraw was really interesting, it felt like he was in the same room, just talking to me and putting his point across.
What did you like best about this story?
The truthfulness of Dr Phil McGraw words and examples.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I enjoyed listening to the first part which outlines what type of person we sometimes deal with whether it be in the office or at home.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It has been a long time since I've actually listened to an audio and actually agreed with the writer. This is a five star book.
Any additional comments?
I would recommend this book to those people who been treated badly whether at work or at home and feel it was their fault. This book will change your mind.

Motivating
I wouldn't say I have been given the answers I would be looking for but I have been given the tools an motivation for the next chapter in my life.
Dr Phil did that for me many years ago and I've already started to take control again. This has reminded me that I really do have the answers all I needed to do was visualise what success would look like for me and write down the steps to get there.

Well worth listening!
Typical self help books bore me. But this book is realistic and very useful. I am resolved to changing my behaviour based in the guidance.

Love Dr Phil but book wasnt what I expected
Love Dr Phil, I expected more specific examples relating to mental health conditions rather than in general e.g. a Narcissist/Border Line etc. Didn't really feel like I learnt any new information that I didn't already know, maybe this is better for someone with limited information in this subject area who wants an overview.

Not quite for me
Is there anything you would change about this book?
In a way I can't fault the book and its content, if I was to change anything, I would ask for it to be less sales oriented, the first chapter I found myself gritting my teeth, thinking just get to it.
If you’ve listened to books by Phil McGraw before, how does this one compare?
I love Dr Phil's work and this is full of insightful stuff and great advice, unfortunately I should have read more about it as the last third is about parenting - and I am not a parent, so I hit the fast forward button a lot towards the end of the book.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The section on the games played and the defences were really good and shamefully I recognise that I have employed the negative games, so the chapter where Dr Phil told me off made me chuckle.
Was Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code worth the listening time?
For 2/3 rds of it yes, the last 1/3 I can't say. I tried to think of my experience with my parents, but no.

Inspirational and educational
I love watching Dr Phil, I find his advice and opinions very helpful and easily adapted to help in my own life situations. So when I heard he had wrote this book I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say that could help me and I wasn't disappointed. He easily explains what problems and what people we may meet in our lifes that either hold us back, take advantage or take us for fools and then he explains exactly how to recognise them then cope and deal with them and succeed yourself to intelligently outwit and get the upper hand. Thank you Dr Phil, and to top it off I get the pleasure of hearing your soft comforting voice to educate me..perfect!

What works does he lives in?
If you want your coaching & support from someone with very little involvement in the real world then this is the book for you. All this book tells you is just how disengaged he has been throughout his life. If your issues can be resolved through the application of this 'code' you never really had issues to begin with

Waste of time - nothing substantial or new
I’m a Dr Phil fan. But this book is a joke. Dr Phil starts out by saying that nobody has ever written a book like this and it will change the way you function. He then goes on to describe “baiters” (toxic people for various reasons) and how to spot them. Ok - so far so good. BUT - Dr Phil doesn’t give much practical advice on how to deal with/shut down/manage these people. There was one excellent example when he role played a woman confronting someone who was backstabbing/spreading rumours and that was great! A practical example of how to stand your ground and make your point. But most of the book is just waffling on and on and on about “baiters” . We all KNOW baiters - we don’t need advice on identifying/categorising them. What we need is advice on what to say to deal with them. Very disappointed with this book - seems it was written in a day - fluff fluff fluff! I hope Dr Phil looks at “Just Tell Me What to Say” (great book that gives scripts of what to say to a kid who does/says x, y, z). We need a book of what to say when a “baiter” does x, y or z. Like when someone says something deliberately rude or to embarrass you in public? Or someone tries to correct you telling a story? Talks over you....? Thanks Hope you read this Dr Phil!

Waste of time and money
Extremely repetitive, says nothing. Can’t understand why he bothered other than to cash in on his name.

A session with Dr Phil
Not sure what I was expecting but this exceeded it. Such great practical advice. Dr Phil nailed the BAITER. Dr Phil annoys me a bit on his show (I sometimes find him arrogant and condescending) but he is spot on in this audiobook. He teaches. Excellent. I recommend to all
