Publisher's Summary

When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a house in London, he soon discovers some strange and shocking things about his new client. And then some strange things start happening back in England: an apparently unmanned ship is wrecked off the coast of Whitby, a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the 'Master' and his imminent arrival.

First published in 1897, Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that the narrative is related through letters, diary entries and newspaper articles. The story is brought to life in this Audible production by a group of actors that you might recognise from TV and film: Himesh Patel (Yesterday), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), Theo James (Divergent series) and Jason Watkins (The Crown).

If you’re in the mood for more gothic classics, check out The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde performed by Pappa Essiedu and Frankenstein performed by Jamie Bell.

Best Audible addition

This one is far better than most.
I've waited for a British multi-cast narration of Dracula for a long time. I love this one far more than the previous addition. I will be reading this again.

I enjoyed it

Classic story and great performance, there’s one old British guy that’s a bit tough to understand but that might be the point and it’s very brief. If you enjoy suspense then listen to Dracula.

It’s not about the monster…

The monster is a side character, a vehicle for a story about the lengths people will go to when they care about each other. It’s really quite beautiful.

I have never read the original story so it was awesome to hear it told by so many different performers who’s voice matched their character perfectly. Highly highly recommend

I don't get why anyone likes this crap!

This story is boring and dated! The first part is okay but when the girl starts narrating it get boring! Don't bother!

You Will Thank Yourselves

I read this story a long time ago and loved it. I have tried a few audio versions of this, some single narration and others acted out. most have not put in the energy of these actors. Each one reading and sounding believable in their parts have properly bought this book to life again.

Lovely immersive performance

This was my first experience with the novel Dracula and I really liked it. The cast performances were excellent and really brought this story to life for me. Favourite narrators were Dr. Seward and Mina.

Sadly I didn't enjoy Renfield's 'voice' as much as the others. I found it to be a little irritating to listen to sometimes, but thankfully he wasn't too much of a major character. I also found the accents for some of the minor characters to be a bit over the top at times, but that's very minor.

I really liked the character of Mina Harker, she was strong, brave, and kind, even when she was terribly afraid. The story has a steady pace that kept me interested. Overall I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and I would recommend it.

Excellent production

It was only after I finished listening to the book that I realised the production had not been a full dramatisation with all the usual sound effects. There are other production effects which make very good use of the voices of the ensemble cast. The overall effect is immersive.

The cast themselves are wonderful. Very occasionally, there is an anachronistic pronunciation, but I was not repeatedly jerked out of the narrative flow, the way I am by the frequent mistakes and strange intonations of so many Audible narrators.

This is the best reading I've heard of this classic novel, which I found strangely comforting after suffering a bitter personal loss. I realised halfway through why I found it so: the story is essentially about the effort to honour the memory of someone who did not have a good death, and to ensure the same fate could not befall anyone else.
