Publisher's Summary

I’m Michael Gilmore, bearer of Noctis the Onyx Dragon, the only male student of Drako Academy, and apparently, the one person who can save a dying world.

Only a few days ago, I was transported from Los Angeles to a fantasy world teeming with super-powered female soldiers who can command the magic of their bonded dragons. Except the dragons are dying out. And I’m going to bring them back. But no one knows how I can do it. After all, how do you breed dragons? The answer lies within Drako Academy and the stunning female dragonmancers inside its crystal walls.

stop the Mc pop culture Referencing**update**

authors please stop it when the Mc keep dropping pop culture references. I'm only a couple chapters in and every time the main character drops a pop culture reference that the female guide for lack of a better word And still hasn't figured out maybe I should stop bringing up these pop culture references in the world where no one gets them. Every time I hear a pop culture reference for example the Kim Kardashian one I just heard it honestly makes me not want to listen to the rest of the bookI will muscle through it and give a more informed review later but only being a couple of chapters in and nonstop pop culture reference drops is extremely annoying. I will Listen to the rest of the book And I hope the pop culture references stop Because honestly it's ruining the book I might give a finished review when I am done listening to the book. just finished the book and listened to the preview of book to and I now have no wish to get book 2 or the rest of the series. story is actually ok if not good but the pop culture Referencing threw out the book and in the preview of book 2 has turned me off of this series completely. the Mc can figure out how to defeat a nasty monster. but can not rub 2 brain cells together and stop the pop culture references after the 2 or 3 what? or huh? or I don't know what your talking about? It is the main part of the book that ticked me off. I would be getting into the book then a quip that would make sense on earth would come and kill the world building that had gone on. maybe I am not finding the humor on it but it was what killed the story for me.

Pretty Good

So, at the beginning of this book I'll admit it only barely held my attention. A few parts here and there managed to hold me just close enough to be curious about what might happen next...and if it might be more interesting than everything that proceeded it.

It took a while to really get going anywhere, but the quips along the way were welcomed. However, all the pop-culture references really did start to wear on me; they went through the full spectrum of "Ha! that's pretty good!" to "Yeah I guess that works." and then "Ugh, come on man, really?" repeatedly for the whole book.

Finally, when it did pick up, it got pretty good, even with the distractingly unnecessary pop-culture references littered throughout.

I'm willing to continue the story into the next book now - something I never thought I'd say or feel like doing at the start.

I just couldn't do it...

I've been curious about this genre since I stumbled into it. I'm starting to feel Tamryn Tamer is only one I can stomach. Its even stranger that these readers were the narrators for both of the books I've returned so far. They're fine I suppose, even if Alex's main character voice reminds me of the "actor" voice of the old-school movies, but the content is bad. I won't fully condemn this story as I knew generally what I was signing up for but it being overwritten and shallow was a bit too much for me.

Not for me.

Pretty gross premise, to be honest. Great performance though. Not really my cup of tea overall.

Too many movie references

Almost every sentence from the MC contained a pop culture reference. The only saving grace was that the narrators are good.

Meh

felt rushed the overall premise wasn't bad but the main character doesn't bother to think about things yet somehow is incredibly smart at same time maybe it'll get more refined in the second one

good start

I've read quite a few Dante King books and have listened to quite a few I don't take King audio. I am familiar with the narrator's for this book as well. I think that if you are also familiar with these three people's work that you'll be pleased with this book. If if you're not then I would say this is a good for to give their work a try. It's a little over the top but it's all good fun.

Story is alright, The MC is an idiot tho.

I've listened to many books and this has an interesting story and concept. But the MC is like a guy that says they'll have your back but runs off to chase skirt or forget about ya to get laid. Mainly meaning he has no pride or honour unless he's getting laid.
Personally I hate Characters or people like that.Otherwise the story is well written and the voice performance is great as always from Alex and Marissa.

needs an editor

The pop culture references are so cringey. You're on another planet talking to elves and fairies, they're not going to know who Kim kardashian is. also the term dragonmancer is too long and clunky to be used as often as it is.
