Publisher's Summary
Dragons invade Pittsburgh.
Mike Merlino serves as the magical guardian of the city and vows to solve the problem.
He discovers only one option that will work. Find the illustrious Dragon Horn. The mystical musical instrument can summon the noble dragons he needs to save the city.
But there's a problem.
Mike must journey to a murderous faerie netherworld to uncover the horn that’s been buried for 500 years.
Will he die like the thousands who have failed on the quest, or will Mike unearth the elusive instrument and use it to reclaim his city?
If you enjoy snarky urban fantasy by masters such as Shayne Silvers, Jim Butcher, and Orlando A. Sanchez, you’ll have a great time with this adventure.
This audiobook includes unique characters, like a vegetarian Sphinx, an ornery faun, a rhyming red cap, dullahans, and a wingless pixie.

Take a thrilling ride with Dragon Horn
Dragon Horn by J.P. Rice is an urban fantasy which finds Merlino, the magical guardian of Pittsburgh, on a quest to find the Dragon Horn in order to rescue his city from evil dragons. With the help of a few friends and companions he must travel through dangerous lands in order to accomplish this goal. Even though this is the 4th book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. I had not previously read any of the others but had no problems starting with this one. I enjoyed it enough that I purchased the other 3 in order to read the back stories and have since read later books in the series.
Benjamin Allen does a decent job with the narration. His voice is pleasant enough to listen to. He does not over dramatize.
Dragon Horn is a thrilling ride that any urban fantasy fan will likely greatly enjoy. J. P. Rice peoples the book with characters who are somewhat outrageous, some humorous, some somewhat disgusting but usually fascinating characters nonetheless. Merlino cares deeply for his city and its residents and goes to whatever lengths necessary to protect it. He is still finding his way as an adult, still discovering his powers and working on being a responsible guardian. At times he lets his position and powers go to his head and other times the scale of his responsibilities weigh on him. He doesn't always handle those times in the most responsible way but he is still young and trying to be more adult. Having read later books in the series I can tell you he does grow as a person and begin acting more mature.

Great character arc
I like the way the author shows character growth in this story. With each book the author shows the main character with a little more growth. The author shows how the hero becomes a hero, in every since of the word, a little at a time with each book. the narrative of this story gave me chills as the written words become alive with the story telling.

Dragons, Demons, & Fea Oh MY!!
This book is set in the same world as The Scarlet Dragon Series. It focuses on Mike Merlino. One of my favorite things after having read that series is seeing some of the other sides of the story. it is awesome getting more than one point of view of the world.
Mike is such a great male hero, he is not perfect and he tries to recognize his flaws while working on his strengths. The secondary characters Eleina & Bern (excuse the spelling as I listened) are very nicely incorporated into the narrative.
I liked the fact that it was quite high action and hard tot put down because I felt I would miss something.
I am quite excited for book 2!!

Dragon Horn (Bloodline Awakened #3) was a good read by J.P. Rice. Mike Merlino is a magical guardian of Pittsburgh and vows to solve the problem of the dragons who invaded the city. He learns that the only way to defeat them is to find a mythical musical instrument, The Dragon Horn. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

didnt enjoy this saddly
IF YOU HAVENT READ THE OTHER SERIES DO NOT READ THIS ONE. This is marked as the first of THIS series but not the first in this setting. You will need to read the other series or you'll be tossed in the middle of a conflict with no relevant information left thoroughly confused. Unfortunately written in a way where no relevant information is offered, you cant just pick this one up and jump in. Interesting premise poor execution. Lots of short disjointed sentences. Poor prose flow. Lackluster deacriptions. If there was any world building it wasnt fully displayed. Perspective doesnt really suit the story. Dreadfully bland weak nod at the Dresden files. All characters are one dimensional though many of the side characters are far more interesting than the main characters himself, the main character is exceedingly immature and experiences no real character growth.his personality is crap falling apart multiple times throughout the story, frequent bouts of drunkenness, and has an inability to take responsibility for his actions. He is overly melodramatic and excessively oblivious. The magic system is ill defined, no ability to tell if it's a soft or hard magic and rather deus ex machina at times. The story fails to suspend the readers disbelief or really grab attention. I frequently had to fight to pay attention to the story. Half of the dragons arent even really dragons, they're wyrms at best. Inorganic interactions between characters.
Narrator had an ok vocal range but poor pacing, literally had to listen to it at 1.85x speed for it to be tolerable. Lots of unnecessary pausing. Decent audio quality, no background noise and good editing.

A good listen!
This is so different to the usual books I read and listen to - I took advantage of a free download from the author and am pleased to submit a review. It took a while to get used to the main character and his role in life as a protector of a city, but after that accepting fairies, demons etc in this book world seemed a piece of cake as he embarked upon a journey to save the city. I wasn't so keen on the narrator at first either - again very different style to my usual audio book narrators, but I soon got used to him and found his interpretation very enjoyable. All in all I am pleased to say I enjoyed this first book by Mr Rice and will try more.

Mike Merlino is a wizard who has taken the safety of his home town Pittsburgh onto himself so when Dragons attack he and his mentor Alayna spring into action. They must make the perilous journey to Sleepy Hollow to find the Dragon Horn as the person who holds this has control of Dragons . They must face several obstacles to get to their goal including a vegetarian Sphinx, a redcap who likes riddles and a whole host of demons , Fae and other magical beings who are out for their blood . I enjoyed this book and the narrator was really good at switching voices for each character and look forward to listening to more in this series.

Excellent narrator. Brilliant character growth
This is the first time I have listened to Benjamin Allen and I have to say I totally enjoyed his voice and the way he presented the book. It tickled me that Elaina sounds like Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka, well to me anyway.
I really enjoyed the story although at the beginning Mike was such an arrogant ass I wasn't convinced I would be able to listen to the whole book. Thing is, he grew, as a character he changed throughout the book. He reacted and responded to what was going on around him and at the end of the book you could knock me over with a feather when I realised I actually kinda liked him and I want to know more of what is going to happen. I was fascinated by the world and it's lore and the characters within it. I enjoyed the journey they went on and the things they had to do as it progressed. I felt that the characters were very realistic to the situations they were in. You don't have to like every character to like a book, in fact some are written so you don't like them on purpose, there are a couple of those in here....not gonna name names but the guy who needs a translator (listen to it and tell me I'm wrong, lol). I need to know what happens next....
