Story
The last winged horses are on the brink of extinction. At a sanctuary for threatened creatures, the home of a young dragon rider and his silver dragon, three foals lie curled up in their eggs. The foals are in great danger, and the only cure seems to be the sun-feather of a griffin. But griffins, creatures with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, are a dragon's fiercest enemy, and they live far across the world in the sweltering jungle. A dangerous and exciting adventure begins....

Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world. Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours.

EXCELLENT!!!
I could not stop listening to this audio! If you like Harry Potter and Artimis Fowl then you must listen to this book. I have not always been a fan of Brendan Fraser, but he completely changed my mind, he brought the characters to life. I hope that Cornelia Funke has him read the next book. This book was one of my favorites of the year!

Story was amazing, but the reader was.....
....in a class of his own. As a middle school teacher trying to stay in touch with what the kids read (as well as my own interests), I have listened to hundreds of titles in many genres... In Dragon Rider, Brendan Fraser was truly spellbinding!!!!

Great job, both author and narrator!
I've been listening to this book with my children, aged 6 and 9. Both of them love it, as do I. I find the distinct voices for each of the characters a delight - it reminds me of the superb job done on the Harry Potter audiobooks.
My kids would happily stay in the car listening to the story for a long time (hours?) after we reach our destination. I'll be sad to reach the end!

Best narrator ever!
I love Cornelia Funke's books and her writing doesn't disappoint. The characters are unique in their blend of original fantasy and realism, exemplified in the Brownie Sorrel. However, I was completely blown away by the quality of Brendan Fraser's narration! He must have imitated 10 different accents, added completely realistic sound effects and generally made the whole story come to life so that there wasn't a dull moment! I look forward to listening to anything he narrates. Overall, highly recommended for all ages!

Amazing
I typically wouldn't listen to children's books, but the reviews here caught my attention. This was probably the most thoroughly entertaining book I have ever listened to. Not only was this written by an enormously talented author, but Brendan Fraser was simply amazing. I've never had an opinion one way or the other about him, but this completely changed my view of him. To call what he did 'reading' would be such an understatement that it would be an insult. What he did in Dragon Rider was a performance, and a pretty spectacular one at that.
I don't know if he's available to do the same thing for any other books, but if he does, I'll happily buy them. He was nothing short of incredible.

Great book...terrible narration
I've loved this book ever since I was a kid, so I was excited to listen to it again. But I quickly found the narrator made it almost unbearable to listen to. Perhaps it would entertain young readers, but I found it the most terrible narration I've heard yet, and I'll include why, so you can decide. The voices were very over-done and exaggerated. There were many accents, several of which seemed incongruous to the character speaking. Some of the characters, one in particular, is narrated so that you can hardly tell what he's saying. The narrator also uses an abundance of sound effects like belching, crashing, vocalizations not in the book, etc. The characters' tones sometimes don't even match up to what is being said.
With that out of the way, this is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. But if I had to choose again whether to buy this version of the narration, I would choose no. I was disappointed, as the awful narrations distracted too much from the amazing story. I wish they had this book narrated by a different person.

loved it!
I was impressed by both the story and the narrator. Brendan Fraser did a marvelous job on the narration and the story was simply delightful. I hope to read the next book although I am a little cautious since it is different narrator but if the story is good and the narrator's do a decent job I'm sure I'll be thrilled
