Story
Blakley Barclay knows her parents are up to something. They’ve been matching all her siblings and even some other people in her hometown of Mistletoe. But the man they’re wanting to pair her up with? A huge pro-ball player with more muscles than brains, and she is not interested. So, she turns to her best friend for help. Blakley’s proposition that they pretend to be interested in each other to foil the romantically inclined efforts of her parents seems like a good idea. My life was always at a simmer… only stewing, never going anywhere. I was left to fend for myself when it came to affection or love, so I learned to go without. I refused to let them see how broken and lonely I was; it was much easier to hide behind a false reality. I didn't want anyone's pity. I didn't need it. Pity wouldn't put food on the table or keep a roof over our heads. That was all me. Now, I have a second chance at a dream long forgotten. It demands hard work and sacrifice - with absolutely no distractions. A recipe I already know all too well, raising a daughter on my own.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Publisher's Summary
Everyone thinks Poppy Kyle is naturally happy and positive. But it took a major tragedy in her life for her to overcome her natural negative tendencies and develop a happiness attitude. She will not allow the surly West Barclay to steal her joy.
After West Barclay lost his parents in a car accident, he spent some time in foster care. Unfortunately, he fell in with the wrong crowd and saw just how rotten life can be. He still carries the scars. Poppy, with her perpetual smile and positive attitude irritates him to no end.
He couldn’t think of a person he would be less inclined to be snowed in with.
So, of course it was Poppy who had delivered the church’s supper to his ranch when the Snowstorm of the Century hit, closing down all roads and stranding two people who can barely stand each other together for a week.
Is it possible that they will see beyond their surface irritations and fall in love?

opposites
It doesn’t matter how many times I read or listen to her books - I’m always hit anew with spiritual lessons to be relearned and put into practice. Another wonderful audio to relax with. Definitely a bunch of heart ache in here though and listening to it just makes it even more real.
I really liked this opposites romance. I saw it coming a couple books ago and was excited to find these characters were getting their own. It went deeper than I was expecting and I loved it. Some good life lessons in here. A taste of Christmas, pain, family, and healing.

Beautiful Snow
Jessie Gussman writes wonderful stories that spark a multitude of emotions within the reader as the story unfolds. This book tells the story of a young lady who seems to be happy, a young man who carries the scars of his youth, and a snowstorm that brings them together. I enjoyed this tale and I recommend this story and all of Jessie's books to others. Jay Dyess' narration is a joy to hear and lightens my heart whenever he narrates. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Another of Jessie's stories that you just want it to keep going on, forever!
Thankfully, each story has an epilogue, that will introduce you to the next story....so the story continues on.
I am completely in love with the voice of Jay, who is all the voices in these books.
He makes the characters all come to life, and he has a way of transporting us right into the town of Mistletoe.

Bittersweet
If I can sum up this story in one word I’d either say ‘bittersweet’ or ‘contrasts’. There were a lot of heavy topics in this story that a lot of people could relate to but I loved how it gave two ways on looking at them. It’s literally light to dark. One main theme is family. Another is hope. And, the last but not the least, faith.
My favorite part though was the wallet incident. I couldn’t help myself but laugh. Jay did great in getting the humor across. The banter made me laugh. I was impressed with how he voiced 4 kids of different ages and then the adults, not to mention the creative way of what I’m guessing to be a stringed instrument to give the effect of sending and receiving messages. It was pretty cool too how he did the phone calls.

warm and funny
Jessie Gussman has a way with words, emotions, feelings that really reach your heart and touch your soul, and brings you closer to God. Poppy is all smiles and happiness, West is always serious and in a bad mood. Can two people so different really have anything in common or are they much more alike that they think? They both have suffered traumatic experience in their teen years but the way they faced it it's totally different. But five children and a very sick woman can bring them together. A warm, funny, sad, tough and inspiring story. The audiobook is incredible. Jay Dyess makes you feel all the deep emotions in this amazing story.

Shadows of the past
This book by Jessie Gussman demonstrates how shadows from the past affect a person for years and how they choose to handle those shadows can affect the relationships they have. Three different people with things in their pasts they would rather not think about come together in this story. Each is facing a situation that they neither planned or wanted but they learn as they move forward that God gives grace to everyone and He can take a bad situation and turn it into something beautiful! Jay Dyess did such a great job narrating this. He does each voice so well and I love how you could see each child as he portrayed them!

another great addition to this fantastic series
West intrigued me ever since I heard him evading Poppy in Dreaming of Her Secret Santa's Kiss. I love a good "enemies to lovers" story, and thus, I was seriously excited to start this one, especially after the title also hinted at another favorite trope of mine: getting snowed in (though it happened much later in the story than I thought it would). Needless to say, Jessie Gussman did not disappoint, and rather brought to life a beautiful, tug at your heartstrings story. Yes, both Poppy and West have faced some serious and dark issues in their pasts, yet God's grace has reached both of them. This doesn't mean they have the same outlook in life (they're opposites for a reason) but they both have deep, compassionate hearts. The addition of Minnie and her kids also intrigued me since the epilogue of the previous book and definitely tugged at my heartstrings, yet it served to better show the compassion and grace in both West and Poppy, as well as help them grow with this new challenge and grow closer to each other facing it together.
I loved how Jay brought to life every one of the characters, but I especially appreciated his little kids' voices, as well as the realness with which he portrayed a person who has cancer and is facing her last days. Of course, he's just as good portraying different emotions, from sadness, anger, and frustration at the injustice of a situation, to childlike glee, or even tenderness when a character realizes they have developed feelings for a certain someone. Truly, I love how he makes everything feel so real, and the added touches (sounds) of texts being sent definitely added to the experience.
Overall, a truly beautiful audiobook experience that's another great addition to this fantastic series set in Mistletoe. It's heartfelt and definitely delivers on the sweet romance while at the same time leaves you pondering on the greatest things of life (and that God's plans are definitely different and greater than ours). As always, I can't wait to see what the next story will bring. ~ 5 stars!
