Story
Meet Zoe and Greg Milton, a married couple who have let themselves go a bit. Zoe was a stunner in her college days, but the intervening decades have added five stone, and removed most of her self-esteem. Greg's rugby-playing days are well and truly behind him, thanks to countless pints of beer and chicken curry. When Elise, a radio DJ and Zoe's best friend, tells them about a new competition, it seems like the perfect opportunity to turn their lives around.

Amy and Joel’s honeymoon in the Maldives was the perfect week of love, sun, sex and a free minibar...but unfortunately, it was also the high point of a marriage that quickly descended into an absolute disaster zone. Eight years on, they’re back in paradise, trying to recreate the magic with new partners. What a crying shame they’ve picked the same week to do it. Trapped together on an island small enough to spit across with the wind behind you, Amy and Joel pick up right where they left off: at total loggerheads.

Kate and Scott’s marriage has always been a lot of fun, with alcohol at the heart of it. After all, what’s more entertaining than a good laugh and a large drink…or six? But recently, those relaxing drinks have become more crutch than comfort - and the couple have almost forgotten how to talk to each other sober. Then their teenage daughter Holly uploads a video of their humiliating drunken escapades, which gets picked up by YouTube superstar PinkyPud - and goes horrifyingly viral.

By: Lauren Ho
Publisher's Summary
From the bestselling author of Checking Out and Dry Hard comes a hilarious story about losing the love of your life, and finding yourself in the aftermath.
When Ollie Sweet is very publicly dumped by ‘The One’, his seemingly perfect world dissolves into misery, self-pity, and a bizarre rooftop meeting with a suicidal man in flip-flops. While most would seek out the support of loved ones at such a torrid time, natural-born journalist Ollie asks the subscribers of his website: how did they get over their failed relationships?
When Ollie follows some of their more extreme advice, chaos inevitably ensues, including accidentally exposing himself to some unsuspecting wildlife, jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane, and suffering from an extremely painful bottom, courtesy of a maniacal Scotsman.
Of course, all of this goes down a storm with his online following, and Ollie soon finds himself the centre of everyone’s attention - whether he likes it or not!
With his eclectic collection of supporters to guide him, can Ollie mend his broken heart, heal his broken bottom, and learn to find happiness again?

The male version of Bridget Jones
I love Bridget Jones - I can relate to her internal dialogue on so many levels. This book felt the same to me - I think if I were a man, this might be me. As a woman, there were a few places that took me out of the story, but only because, like I said, I'm not a man. But that did not take away from the overall enjoyment of the writing. Nick Spalding does socially awkward normal people so well!
This is a bit of a raucous and wild ride and, like Bridget Jones' Diary, it's not for the sensitive reader. There are some rather racy bits, but written in a way that makes the situations so relatable.
Sex - Some, but almost always with some kind of awkward laugh-out-loud mishap involved (Bambi - hahahaha!)
Language - Some, but addressed in much the same way as the sex
Violence - Only the kind that happens to socially awkward normal people.
I will say that I space my Nick Spalding books out - they make me laugh, but I can only handle so much of his style in one sitting. I'm a fast listener - I typically listen to 3 or more audiobooks a week - but I rarely listen to more than one of his in a month. It would be like having sticky, nutty pecan pie for every meal instead of just at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Narration - Steve West handled Ollie Sweet's character with great skill! I totally believed he was telling his own story. May make it hard to look him in the eye if we ever meet face to face one day, but nicely done, Steve!

literally laugh out loud funny
the book itself is hilarious, of course. the stories, the situations Ollie finds himself in, but the real hero of this audio book is the narrator. he's bloody brilliant (to steal a Britishism)! The character voices are perfect, and the delivery adds so much to the comedy. many occasions I found myself in tears laughing. well worth the listen or read!

Definite laughs!
This wasn't non-stop laughter but there was some definite laugh out loud moments and a few smirks!
Whether the dumper or the dumpee, we can identify with the main character, Ollie/Oliver. He has a bit of a fantastical view of life and relationships so this book is sorta his journey of self-discovery. It was really well-written and well-narrated. Nick Spalding just has a way of creating real characters and finding the humor in the ordinary. The narrator was the perfect complement to that effort. Just an all-around great listen!

Quite a journey
This book is a must-listen. It’s so good that I wish I could listen to it for the first time again. I savored every chapter, laughing until I cried more times than I can remember. It’s my first Nick Spalding book and I’m definitely checking out more of his work.
Steve West hits it out of the park in this performance. He vividly brings Ollie to life so well, if they make this into a film (they absolutely should) then Steve has to play Ollie. Some Audies better be coming his way for his work in this as he is superb.

What I dud!
I've enjoyed other books by Nick Spalding, but not this one. My sense is that the author is really trying to be witty and sophisticated here, but the product is not funny, cliche-ridden, and often just boring. Sorry, but a tale about a professional man in his 30's who is totally dismayed to learn that his parents' marriage isn't "perfect" just doesn't make it for me.

Any slower it would be going backwards.
I had to give up. Slow? Dear goodness. Why use 10 words to describe a situation when you can use 1000. Describing an oom pah band song for over 3 minutes was it for me.
I would strongly suggest you don't bother.

Entertaining RomCom
This is now my second Nick Spalding book so I knew what to expect. It was light and entertaining with a few laugh out loud moments.
At times I did find it a bit predictable but it is a romcom so I guess that's alright.

Okay, Actually
💛 A review of two halves here. Overall, enjoyed this very much. A good ol’ ex-relationships retrospective complete with lighthearted humour. What’s not to love, actually.
💚 The comedy elements were hit and miss. I’m a Spalding fan, but some of the humour was a bit too cringy. I can only say tent.

SOUNDBITE
🎧 According to my very unscientific Audible search, Steve West has tended towards narrating more dramatic audiobooks to date. Having heard him do humour, I hope he continues to bring the funny. He was great as Ollie, did well with accents (not easy pulling off an Aussie elephant) and was generally good fun to listen to.

SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO…
There were, I believe, a shout out or two to Nick Hornby in this. I was also reminded of a little 2009 Matthew McConaughey vehicle by the name of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. And I am probably the only person who remembers it so....

Funny in parts
If you can get past the anti white British, middle class, urban elite nonsense that oozes out of the writer there are some laugh out loud parts to the book. The book had a running love story of course but unfortunately the end missed that point also, so not quite sure the writer knew where he was going with the story. If you can ignore the jarring political points then the book is quite amusing.

A Rib-tickling book. A Must Listen!
This is my very first book from Nick Spalding. I picked this book due to narrator Steve West and it was highly recommended by a lot of book friends. I really enjoyed listening to this book a lot. This book had me laughing and giggling throughout with Ollie’s antics. I don’t ever remember snort laughing so much listening to an audiobook. Kudos to Mr. West, his performance as Ollie and all the other characters were just phenomenal, he just brought all of them to life. A must listen especially in this current climate.

Funny but drawn out
I enjoyed book but I still wanted it to finish. It was too drawn out for me.
