Story
After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway.

Publisher's Summary
Unlikely allies uniting across the world. Blood feuds that span centuries. A single chance at life.
The world watches the sky with trepidation. The insanity of Xenocide knew no bounds, and all will soon suffer the effects he had planned for a millennium. Though none know what is to come, they all know it isn't going to be easy to survive.
The Master has a plan, one that can give the world at large a way to escape the onrushing desolation. It may be on the bleeding edge of morality and what he needs might prove too difficult to secure, but the Master asks for trust.
Cal and Dale both have their role to play as the world hurtles toward destruction. One needs to bring the races of the world together while the other simply needs to survive. Surrounded by supposed allies, the duo will do all that they can to succeed - but with every new arrival comes rising tensions and faltering trust.
The apocalypse is coming. Will honor or greed stand the test of time?

Please re-record with original narrator Vikas Adam
I've listened to the entire series until this release. Not that this book is bad, or that I dislike Luke Daniels - in fact I like Luke Daniels' narrating very much - but the combination of the two threw me off. I cannot understand the decision to change the narrator in the 5th book. A narrator who has a completely different take of the now all so familiar characters manifested by Vikas' voice and interpretation. I'm having a hard time recognizing the characters and even distinguishing them. I won't listen to this book until Vikas narrates it again. Since, I am not the only one complaining about this issue, I'm hopeful that audible will hear our request. Thank you!

Change of narrator is very disturbing
Changing from Vikas Adams to Luke Daniels is very jarring. Characters who once sounded convincingly female now sound like whiskey-drinking obese grandfathers. Rose became a 50 year old Scottish man who loves smokey single malts, at least from the voice. Dani is an old sailor recovering from a bout of tuberculosis. Cal is suddenly a kibbitzing Northeasterner with a heavy, if slightly hard to place, accent. That said, the story is still a lot of fun. And, after a book or so maybe I'll adapt to these new voices. I sure do miss Vikas Adams' narrations of these characters though.

Great story; but I've been spoiled by Vikas Adam
Enjoyed the book. A *little* predictable (which is why I dislike prequels so much) if you've read the previous books in the series as well as the Completionist Chronicles to this point. But it still made me laugh and smile and I still enjoyed the ride (something I can rarely say about prequels in general).
<spoiler level="minor">
Also re-started the Ritualist and loved the name of the "game" the "Certified Altruistic Lexicon" was in charge of. *That* made me laugh for a solid minute.
</spoiler>
As an Audible listener I was disappointed in the performance. I hate to be critical as I doubt I could do any better and I *know* I've been spoiled by Vikas Adam. But the reader for this one only had one true "female" voice (and it was just wrong for Rose; and wasn't even used for Dani...not that it would work for her either) and kept using the wrong voice for the wrong character (the number of times Cal's voice was used for Dani was especially frustrating as they were talking to one another).
Rant over. Just wanted to get it off my chest.

ugh, narrator
I enjoyed Luke Daniels reading Rexxus, it was different, but felt like a valid interpretation of the characters. Here, he completely ignored everything Vikas Adams did and gave all character voices new quirks. I got really tired of Cal sounding like an impression of Peter Griffin, and various other characters gaining random accents. It was difficult to get into the story because of this.

Great story, but.....
Ok, so the story itself is great. I understand that the author had no option about changing the narrator, but wow, it really ruined the adventure for me. I felt like I was starting a new book series. Vikas Adams did a wonderful job with the voice acting in the previous books. Luke Daniels, while a good narrator, makes me have to repeat sections of dialogue, as all of the characters (especially the female characters) have varying degrees of the same male voice, with southern and french accents. I haven't even yet finished the book, but I really hope it is the last one so that I can move on with my wounded heart.
Edit: After finishing the book, I am glad that the series is over. I've loved this series, and I really got to love the characters, but the voice change up, even with the lore as to why, just too negatively changed the beat of the story. Hans is by far one of my favorite characters, and I feel like he was completely replaced. Luke Daniels is really great in the Ascend Online series, but here, it just didn't measure up to the bar Vikas set. Thanks Dakota, I still can't wait for the next Completionist book to release next month!

Same issue every other reviewer has
Please Audible. Can you consider making it a principle to not change a narrator with a long series. It feels like the characters have gone through extreme personality changes. I didn't check before buying for a narrator assuming it is business as usual. Luke seems like he is overacting the roles maybe it is just because the other guy was more low key and calm.
Went though this experience with Got and also suffered. Like imagine you wake up one day and your two best friends switched voices

All female Voices sound like grumpy old man voice
Love the series. Love previous Narrator but they switched Narrator and well.... its a good story but you have to suffer through horrible voices on some of the characters. Don't get me wrong you can still enjoy the story but many times when the narrator switches voices I have to concentrate on who is supposed to be talking because the voice just does not fit the character. If you loved the previous books you will get this one and its worth the credit. I just hope Dakota goes back to Vikas Adam as Narrator.

It's good, but read it yourself.
Do you remember the 90's, and saturday morning cartoons, where 4kids would just take anime and plaster random dubs over a show, totally changing the tone and feel of a series just to make a profit? Well, that's what this book is like.
Luke Daniels is a narrator I've enjoyed before, but his voices just don't work for this series. The tone genuinely sounds like a saturday morning cartoon at times, with his voices sometimes being far too exaggerated, especially when compared to the voices done by Vikas Adams. Speaking of voice comparisons, Daniels' voices sound nothing like the ones performed by Adams. We're on the 5th book of a series, so such a dramatic change in how characters sound is very jarring and confusing. If he was at least trying to sound similar to Vikas' voices I could accept it, but he gives characters radically different voices, and sometimes different accents, and as a result it's hard to immerse myself in the series, since I'm constantly confused on who is talking, and constantly comparing his voices to the voices I'm expecting.
I feel bad going so hard against Daniels, but I just didn't enjoy his version of these characters at all and genuinely wish I'd just read the book myself. The story itself is great, and exactly what I expected from the series, but the narration change seriously hurts my enjoyment of this series.

Utterly Ruined
I'm sure Luke Daniels is actually a pretty good narrator, but it totally breaks the immersion and continuity of this story, replacing Vikas Adam was a massive mistake.
The characters are all so different, sometimes I had to pause and look up some info to remind myself who was who.
As far as I can tell, absolutely no effort has been made to maintain any accents or traits, and all the female characters sound like gruff northern men, its such a shame!
I think I am going to have to go back and read this entire series the old fashioned way to really appreciate this fifth book, and I am absolutely dreading getting Raze, the next Completionist Chronicles Series book, as it will also clearly be utterly ruined.
Dakota, what have you done?

Great Story, Terrible Narration
The story was great, 10 out of 10.
But the fact they changed the narrator was one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard of. Saddled with the fact that the new narrator didn't even make them sound even remotely the same, right the way down to a full personality shift. Personally I had no idea who people were until their names were read out loud.
Note: Love Lukes other work, he's brought so many books to life for me but this one, he stright up murdered.

I don’t know why Dakota decided to change narrators right at the end of the series but it’s just to jarring I tried but I really can’t do it. Listening to over 4 books with Vicas Adam u get used to the voices but then to suddenly here a different narrator that does every voice differently I couldn’t tell who was saying what unless it’s directly mentioned where as before I could tell just from the voice exactly who was speaking. It saddens me to say I’ll be returning this book and will just stick with the ebook

Change of narrator wrecked it
I'm not sure why the narrator changed. Probably because the narrator wanted royalties in the audio book. When they have read the whole series and made it a success its well worth doing all you can to keep that I'm sad that couldn't happen. The new actor tries, it's just lost so much of its emotion. The series was not well written from the start, as a friend I try to get into it pointed out, one minute a characters knows something like what tipping is, then needs it explained then there's lots of borrowed themes but the initial concept is great along with general storyline and character development the voice actor nailed not doing too many accents and rather doing more subtle differences which built on the characters correcting flaws in the writing with perfect inflections in the speech which suggested the narrator clearly knew what the author was going for. Such a shame I can't even get half way now.

Damn narrator!
Would have been nice if the narrator had done a proper job and actualy read the other books..he changed voices and personality of characters that dont fall in line with the book. E.g. Hans is now a rough speaking cockney..when it was specifically stated that he had a posh..ish accent as it is part of his backstory. Cal went from from being intelligent to a Homer Simpson knock off. Just plain lazy Luke..do a better job or dont bother next, time you ruined the end to a great series. All your work sounds the same stop pushing your personality into other peoples work!

Great as rest of the Serie
Story was as captivating as other 4 books were. I really enjoyd storytelling and how it finnished story.
Didn't really like reader. All female characters sounded manlier than male characters. Couldn't really distinguise characters from each other. My mind always tried to hear voices from the previous books narrator.

It’s a new story
What’s with the choice to change the narrator? It’s more than the change of voices and tone given the the words making the characters seem like different people. The whole story sounds like a stand alone book and not the next instalment in the series. It ruined the whole series for me and if you have never started these books I recommend not doing so simply for this fact. If like me you don’t have the time to read the actual book and listen to audios this series has become a disappointment because of that one mistake. Such a shame!

The twist tho
So as I have already listed to the completionist chronicles the twist at the end is so fuckin good. It gets borderline sci fi at the end. I really would have loved the other narrator to narrate but this guy did an amazing job nonetheless.

A word of advice for listeners
I originally had this set as a 1 star review, due to the jarring narrator change, but let me tell you what happened...
I was pretty devostated when I saw the ritualist and the dungeon series changed narrator as vikus was near perfect for the role. When I started listening to this one it was just way too much of a change to stomach and I honestly hated most of the voices Luke chose. It made me rage quit and rate 1 stars.
But.. I lasted decided to give rexus and the ritualist a try with Luke Daniels and I have to say... It might have even been BETTER with Luke Daniels as narrator! I enjoyed it more than the previous chapters.
Anyway, that was enough for me to give this one a new crack. I can't say it was as good with Luke, but seeing his phenomenal performance on the other books, I could now stomach the jarring voice changes on this one.
It's certainly worth pushing through the change.

the voice actor was almost unbearable
Took a good hour at least accept the voices. and even by the end it was terrible. every female character sounded violent and more mainly than the male characters. dani especially sounded like a drugo wanting more

Story is great, narration not so much
the narrator for the book was changed for the final book in this series and the difference is staggering. The new voices for characters completely change how you perceive them and ruins the experience

good story, but different narrator
different narrator why? The shift of everyones voices was extremely difficult to get used too. It was good, just offputting.

Dungeon Eternium
This book is bloody brilliant a must to listen to and owned. Written by Dakota Krout who did a wonderful job of with this book and series and with the voice acting talents and skills Luke Daniels . This book is a 12 out of 10.
