Story
Fred did something bad. He didn’t intend to do it, but the destruction of a dungeon core - accident or otherwise - will likely result in horrific consequences for anyone connected with the crime. And not for just the perpetrators; everyone around them will suffer vengeful retribution from the nearby cores for the unthinkable act. Knowing that his mistake will end up endangering his new friends, the townspeople of Gatecross, and even his Guild, Core Power, Fred decides to do whatever he can to protect them.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Sandra had been a merchant traveling through the human lands of Muriel, though that wouldn’t have been her chosen profession. What she would’ve loved to become was a crafter, producing wondrous creations with her own two hands. Unfortunately, Sandra was born with a deformity in her hands that made them appear frozen in a claw-like pose; as a result, she couldn’t grip anything with any sort of strength or dexterity, meaning that she wasn’t able craft anything but the most simple of things that required very little in the way of hand-based manipulation.

Milton Frederick never had the chance to live out his life as a professional gamer on Earth, mainly because he was abducted by aliens. Unfortunately, he wasn’t returned home after the typical probing associated with such things to tell an unbelievable story to his friends. Instead, he was summarily killed and his consciousness was inserted into a Station Core, a giant, metal, egg-shaped object that could use technology to create traps, Combat Units, and other defenses to protect not just himself, but those he cared about.

After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then, he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway. He had always failed in what he did. The only thing that had never failed him was his sharp mind and philosophy. He would cultivate...no matter what it cost him.

Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Publisher's Summary
In a distant world five times the size of planet Earth, dungeons and their dungeon cores have become the top of the food chain.
Millions of dungeons inhabit the planet, utilizing the various human kingdoms as a source of much-needed mana to facilitate their own growth; in turn, the humans delve into the dungeons and acquire their own power in the form of essence, which allows them to develop and enhance themselves in a multitude of different ways.
It is a symbiotic relationship that has lasted centuries and has brought about a measure of peace.
Far in the Northern wilds where no humans (and therefore - no dungeons) regularly frequent, a young man is left alone when his parents are murdered suddenly and unexpectedly.
Now, without friends, family, or even supplies, he embarks on a journey to find out who targeted his parents - and upon whom he needs to enact his revenge.
Along the way, he discovers something about himself that his parents said was impossible from the moment he was born.
Will he learn to control the new powers he has gained, or will his newly awakened dungeon core abilities consume him?
Contains LitRPG elements such as statistics and leveling. No harems and no profanity.

Disappointing
The premise is interesting, and the author has done some interesting world building to expand on the dungeon core premise. Unfortunately, that seems to be where the work stopped. Everything else RPG-related seems just crufted on. There's very little depth to anything that isn't dungeon core related, and that includes the characters. I kept wondering if this was meant to be teen-lit litrpg, but then the story ends before it really even starts. As for dialog, it is really stilted. I can't believe this was the author's twelvth book; it feels like a first book in strong need of a good editor.
Then there's the gaps in time. There's a three month fast-forward towards the end which really feels like "insert book two here". That's after there's already been a gap halfway through the book which is variously described as 12, 15, 18, or 24 months long, followed soon after by another 1 month gap. Basically, any time the character might do anything solo, it just gets skipped.
The stats also get quite annoying. They should come when actually needed, not as often as they do here. As example, on the single dungeon dive that occurs, stats are given beforehand, after each and every *room* of the dungeon, then again afterwards. Take the nine hours runtime and figure this in; I'd guess that at least an hour is simply the stats being read over and over again.
This *could* turn into a good book, but it's all premise, no story. It sets up a quest for the main character, but never advances along that quest. He is given so many unbalancing skills that he's the ultimate cheat character right from his first day dungeoneering. The world could be interesting, but the story set in that world is so barebones, I have no investment in it.

twist on a core
First like everyone has stated it is a twist to dungeon core books.. A fantastic twist in my books. Very unique in its "stats" and skills. Reading this had me asking at the end of every chapter what could happen next.
The characters in this book felt real like they had purpose even the bard maid or a street runner not random nameless npcs.
Unfortunately the only problems I had were some time skips I wish didnt happen just for my own greed of knowledge and wanting a 20 hr+ fantastic read... The 1st book is definitely a sey up to the series i will be waiting for anxiously daily.

Worst narrator I've heard in a while.
The narrator ends nearly every sentence with an upward intonation. I can't even hear what he's saying over that pattern, and it drives me insane.

Too short
A fair addition to litrpg libraries and an interesting take on dungeon core stories. My only real complaint is that it feels like the end of the book should be more of a middle. Too often it seems that authors are now splitting what would be a decent length book into several installments... it's too bad.

I don't know how he did it.
Writing about a dungeon in a world of millions of dungeons and he made it work.
The MC and supporting characters are fleshed out well.
There are well done battle scenes and he doesn't over do it.
Brooks really brought me into this world which is exactly what I wanted. As a first book in the series this is what I expect. The introduction and building up of the characters are done so well that you want to keep traveling with them into the next book.
I've read a couple of Brooks' books and really enjoyed them but I was skeptical that this series would be as good. I would go so far as to say that this book is on par with the first book in Dakota Krout's dungeon series. I'm hoping the rest of the series will be as good.
Meili does an amazing job as usual. He does a solid 4 to 5 star job in bringing this story alive in your mind.
If you are a dungeon core and LitRPG lover this book, and hopefully series, is for you. Definitely worth the time you'll miss sleeping or doing the dishes.

Excellent idea with lots of potential
Dungeon world combines the world of adventurers and dungeons in a way that I didn't think would work until I listened to it. I really enjoyed the how innocent the main character seemed while getting up all sorts of shenanigans. This book was more of a set up book than I usually like, but having read further into the series, it is worth it.

Disappointed
The concept and the general layout of the book had so much potential. I think this is why I am so disappointed with how boring and unengaging the MC is.
Hopefully someone can use the concept and portray the MC better. I found Eisa far more engaging and yet she was a footnote.

Good litrpg, bad delivery
If all you want is a romp over tropes then you’ll enjoy this book, but even among litrpg on the Audible c-lists the writing comes over as amateur.
I wish the author the best, and maybe in a couple of years he'll be ready. However if you're after anything other than tropes then even compared to the other things at the bottom of the barrel on Audible I can't recommend spending money here.

I very much enjoyed this series, the author provides a great deal of statistics, which I am not convinced suit an audio format, but these are mostly restricted to specific chapters making so they do not impinge on the story too much. The world itself is interesting and the mechanics of the cores themselves are well done. My only criticism would be that the supporting character are almost more interesting than the main character and I would have enjoyed having more of the story focus on them and their actions along with their interactions with the main character.

excellent
was a little different from the other book I have listed to over my time on audible but all in all I am very pleased to say I enjoyed it greatly.
Well read and story kept me thinking what's next and just wanting to listen to next chapter.
All I can say to the author is thank you for a great story.

Wouldn't recommend
Let's start with the positive:
1.
The narrator is excellent
2.
The Mc powers in the *end* of the book are kinda fine.
3.
The two side characters are cool
4.
It's nice not reading about a broke Mc for once
And the bad:
1.
The Mc is stupid and unlikeable, it feels like reading about a 5 years old.
2.
For the first third of the book I was so bored I would ignore what's happening in the book.
3.
The book feels like it was cut in half or even into a third of what it was supposed to be.
4.
The worst in my opinion: there is at least 30 minutes in the book dedicated only to reading the Stat page! Considering the book is less then 10 hours this is unreasonable. I'm talking about 2 straight minutes of reading the page, AND NOTHING CHANGED. You can clearly hear where the narrator copy pasted pieces of the Stat page because even he couldn't be botherd to remake it every time.
If you make the book into an audio book at least put the minimal effort into putting the page at the end of the chapter and give me the option to skip without blindly moving between points or to have to listen to that boring torture.
5.
Very little world building in a world with the potential for it. The world itself sounds interesting, too bad that I know nothing about it.
Overall: I'll return the book as Im angry enough to write a rant about it.
