Publisher's Summary

When it comes to finding dirt, Evan Reed is the best in the business. She’s a “dust-buster” - a paid operative hired by political campaigns to vet candidates for national office. She’s also a foulmouthed and cranky ex-Catholic - attempting to raise a 14-year-old daughter on her own.

When she is hired to investigate the background of a squeaky-clean and charismatic junior senator who might just be the next president, the last thing she expects to uncover is a murder.

Evan’s life is further complicated when she meets the senator’s reclusive wife - who seems to be hiding a few secrets of her own.

If you like Hoosier Daddy...

This audio book has a similar feel to Hoosier Daddy. There is no question it is the same author. Overall, the story is good. I didn’t love the characters - they could use a bit more development, but I don’t regret buying it. If you want a light hearted, not too serious mystery with a lesbian twist, it is worth giving it a listen. Christine Williams’ narration is excellent as always.

Needs a dialogue Coach

This is a fairly good story, but the stilted and excessive dialogue ruined the listening experience for me. I enjoyed Jericho a great deal but each subsequent book from this author has been a disappointment.

Excellent!

I loved Dust. I already knew the story by heart, having read it several times before. Christine Williams takes this novel to a whole new level. Loved Evan's character. Maybe Ann McMan could find another investigation for her? Hopefully? Excellent narration.

Excellent!

I would like more “dusting” to listen to… story was full and satisfying. A real treat.

Disappointed

Boring and predictable with weak or little story line. Using god damn to emphasize a point repetitively was not effective and actual offensive making the tone harsh rather than pleasant.

Mixed Feelings

Before I start, let me say that I am a HUGE fan of JERICHO. I love the organic transition from friends to lovers, the humour, and the folksy charm of that community.

That being said, I struggled to complete DUST. I understand that this book is an entirely different world. However, I did not like Evan. She was foul-mouthed, unnecessarily confrontational, and dressed like an adolescent boy. There were glimpses of something softer and more likeable, but not enough of it to understand Julia's attraction to her.

Further, the use of such offensive language made the lack of actual sex scenes laughable (but not in a good way!). Sometimes, even kisses were just alluded to. I don't have to have raunchy sex scenes, but I think this story needed more than veiled references to intimate acts.

The plot was good, but there were SOOOO many characters that it was difficult at times to remember who was who, as well as to recall which ones were good and which ones weren't.

The redeeming factor in this Audible book is the narrator. As always, Christine Williams was absolute perfection!

What did I just listen to?

The voices were almost indistinguishable... literally, narration, main character and the baby daddy sound so much alike I lost the thread of the first chapter TWICE.

If the story had stuck to either a lesbian romance with some drama OR a political thriller OR been 3-4 hours longer it had potential, but as is it's disjointed and poorly paced. And I am a lesbian, well aware of how fast we move but JESUS. This was just one long what the F. the whole way through.

Loved The Story

The players and storyline was great, elements of comedy, tragedy, romance, greed all rolled into a great novel.
It would have had 5 *** across the board but some of the accents made me cringe I.e. the English ones.

Good throughout

The 2nd story I've had from Ann McMan and another good performance by Christine Williams , great voice and good characterisations.

A good mystery story woven around a romance that kept me guessing to the end and still left questions.

Downloading the next in the series to follow on.

Interesting story

But I wish it had been narrated better.
Abby Craydon has spoiled us and very few other voice artists can match.
But… the story was fine.
