Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Publisher's Summary
A prophetic dream. An emp attack. The ultimate contest for survival!
Danny and Alisa's lives are turned upside-down when Danny begins having prophetic dreams about the judgment coming upon America. Through one of Danny's dreams, they learn about the imminent threat of an EMP attack which will wipe out America's electric grid, sending the country into a technological dark age.
Living in a nation where life-sustaining systems of support are completely dependent on electricity and computers, the odds for survival are dismal. Municipal water services, retail food distribution, police, fire, EMS, and emergency services will come to a screeching halt. Hunger, despair, and panic will push desperate people to commit unthinkable acts against their fellow human beings.
If they want to live through the most catastrophic period in American history, Danny and Alisa will have to race against time to get prepared, before the lights go out. Don't miss this epic thrill ride. Get your copy and start this heart-stopping EMP saga today!
This is the complete, four-book box set containing book one: Behold Darkness and Sorrow, book two: Ichabod, book three: A Haunt for Jackals, and book four: Vengeance.
As with all books by Mark Goodwin, this audiobook contains no profanity and no embarrassing sex scenes. However, if you're offended by conservative principles and biblical references, this might not be for you.

Strong religion, preaching to the reader book
I made it almost to chapter 4 and just could not take the hardcore Christian undertone embedded in it. It should be under "Religious books" with the amount of quoted gospel and directive of "be a good Christin" tone of what I was able to tolerate. I consider myself a Christian but am not one for pentecostal and preaching to others. I know a number of people feel they are not good Christians if they are not "witnessing" to others but I bought this book to hear stories of prepping and survival with the hope to learn some new things. I know allot of preppers have (their) religion (Christians, Mormons, Muslims etc.) as the main focus of their prep, and I am happy for them to have religion in their lives. I don't go pushing my own beliefs on others and wish that of them. I should have researched the author more as I see Google lists "Mark Goodwin is a Christian author" as their first words. -noted.

Very religious and preachy.
Each chapter starts off with a quote from the bible. That was my first red flag. Then the main character goes to church with a friend (and we the readers suffer through a sermon) and then just like that the main character finds Jesus and is saved. I was fed up by this point, and it's only chapter 3. I decided to read some one-star reviews and they all say the same thing; the book is very religious all the way through. I am returning this book and if preachy or religious themes bother you then don't get this book.

Entertaining, educational, no swearing, Christian
Good story, good character development with a variety of characters. Exciting, informative about prepping, realistic about people's behavior. Appreciated no swearing, the sacredness of life including the unborn, respect for God's marital arrangement nicely done. Some sadness. Antoine a cool character, Catfish memorable. Prophetic dreams and quotes from the Bible nicely done.
A few of the prayers not humble enough - telling God what to do instead of saying please and petitioning. Reliance on prayer and reading the Bible very good. Most of the voices good, would have preferred Antoine's voice to be deeper since he was almost 7 feet tall, 300 pounds and an Afro American.
Length - almost 29 hours - a bargain. Very nice that this was sold as a box set instead of dividing up the books and trying to sell individually to make more money. Thought it a kindness to author's fans, customers.

Decent story but primary for religious folks
I wanted to like this set so much however the entire story is filled with bible scriptures and prayers. Perfect maybe for my mother but a huge disappointment for myself. Definitely not what I expected. Returned the book after a few hours of listening. I felt like I was listening to a church sermon. Pretty sure you’ll either love or hate it. No middle ground with this one

Educational and spiritually reinforcing
I found the book to be well balanced between fact and fiction to present a family bonding experience and how people will believable act from their hearts even faced with heartless people that you would eventually cross paths with in time of crisis.
Give the book a chapter or two and it will more than hold your attention, it will captivate you. I will listen to it again.

Misleading, it’s a biblical story. I don’t need a Christian lecture.
Well read, but I like to listen to stories before sleeping. If I wanted to listen to a biblical Christian story I would have chosen a book as such.
Not to say I’m not Christian, but I like to choose how and when I listen to pious doctrine.
I feel cheated, and misled.
Only few chapters in, hope the Cristian biblical bias will disappear later on the book.
Ideal for our Mormon relatives but not for me.

Bible class in the form of survival books
These are EMP Survival 101 books for Christians within the context of Christian bible lectures. If you are Christian you may like this.
It is very misleading in portraying itself as a general survival adventure book series, but in reality they are heavily religious books about Christianity. It is more interested in teaching the ways of the bible in a very biased and judgmental way.
Character's who are not Christians and don't listen to the 'warning' get the worst deal in the storyline. However, some finally 'see the light', experience miracles, become believers, are saved and miraculously good things happen to them thereafter. Every chapter starts off with a bible quote. It's hard to find a sentence that doesn't have reference to Christianity in it and I feel the author should have been transparent about the significant religious objectives of these books.
Even without the bible scriptures everywhere in the books, book 1 is entirely about prepping for the Event. This is written in an extremely slow, micromanaged way. It's almost written as a survival user guide indicating in detail for ex, which are the best foods to buy and from where, what is the best bullets to buy for which gun and what size to get etc. It quickly becomes tedious. I found it a very hard slog to get through and didn't enjoy it. The best part about the books was the narrator who did a good job. I was given a copy of this book for free of my choosing and have voluntarily left this review.

i couldnt even make half way.
The story itself would be great however the anti abortion and bible stuff is to much... its just so sad to think that people believe this dribble.

Not what I expected
I wasn’t interested in all of the bible thumping content (and there is a lot of it) but if you can get past it this is a really good prepper series.
Despite the religious overtones there is no happy clappy outcome for the characters just because they are trying to make righteous decisions.
The characters are definitely Old Testament religious as they torture and kill without much hesitation. The series starts off a bit slow in the preparation phase, but there is some reasonable prepper info woven into the story. Things pick up pace after the event, and the story is engaging.
Although I’m not necessarily in agreement with the world views of the author, it was good to hear a story in this genre coming from a different perspective. I would listen to more books by Mark Goodwin.

An excellent series
I have listened through this series at least 3 times since purchasing it but I love most of Mark Goodwin series. There is clearly a lot of thought and knowledge put into all of them. He is actually what got me started on audible and Kevin Pierce is THE BEST NARRATOR!!!! There are biblical references and the characters are christians, it says in the description there’s biblical references so I am not sure why some reviews are angry by it. Definitely worth the listen if you are looking for christian safe content

Really good
I’m not a super religious guy but I was raised Christian and the references did not bother me . if anything they kinda reminded me of what’s important in life. The story and the narrator did well with the story and had me listening longer than I should as I was sneaking in the book at work after the drive to work.

Not for the battle weary, but well thought out.
There’s a lot of survivalist gun stuff, the usual battles where good and evil characters die. But the tenacity, faith and hope of a beleaguered band of Believers laces this saga together into a roller coaster tale of passion, principles and providence.
Well worth a listen.

A good story wasted in the telling
This book had a really engaging storyline and loads of potential - but was totally ruined by the right wing bible thumping rhetoric
