Publisher's Summary

In the far future, mankind lives safe and secure behind the Chronos Ring - an automatic defense system that encircles the area of space occupied by human beings. The Ring keeps out all of humanity's enemies - in particular, a vicious race of reptilians known as the Parsnaak.

On the outer fringe of human-occupied space is the planet Muse, an entire world dedicated and established as a colossal museum - a storehouse of antiquities and relics from the ancient histories of both men and aliens. There, Ian Lotus, a man with his own mysterious past, has chosen to live in deliberate obscurity, harboring secrets that could reshape mankind's destiny.

Now, the impossible has happened: the Chronos Ring has been breached - rendered inert - and Lotus finds himself no longer able to hide in the shadows as he becomes the object of a massive interplanetary manhunt. However, his problems go well beyond simply being the most wanted man in the galaxy. There's also the approaching Parsnaak invasion fleet to deal with, as well as an enigmatic, extra-dimensional being of immense power who, for reasons unknown, wants Lotus dead.

With a good performance by the Narrator and a interesting plot this is a fun read.

It has a good group of characters that will keep most listerers entertained.

immensely entertained

This is perhaps my new favorite lesser know sci-fi books this year. the narrator kept me intrigued with how fluid he made the story and characters. The plot was fantastic and im dying to get my hands on book 2.

EON: Chronos Ring

This book was so much fun to listen to. I was engaged from the very start. I've listened to this narrator before and he has not disappointed me yet. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

FUN SCI-FI!

The Chronos Ring keeps everyone safe... for now. Even the elusive Eon Lotus, who spends his days on the planet Muse, which is a ginormous museum.

The, the Ring is breached, and all hell breaks loose, and Lotus is smack dab in it.
Not to mention the Parsnaak! Those reptilian devils!

Fun Sci-Fi listen, it's a wild ride and I enjoyed it :)
Definitely want to hear more!

A Good Space Romp

Eon Lotus is your average antiquities expert at a Museum on the remote planet of Muse where he enjoys the protections The Chronos Ring provides while keeping out of the limelight and far away from the machinations of Galactic politics. That is, until a laundry list of important people show up at his Museum for a gala event and all hell breaks loose. Soon, Eon finds himself running for his life with a sidekick he didn’t ask for and nigh-invulnerable enemy close on his heels.

I could tell you more but I took a Sacred Vow of the Yellow Calf.

Reminds me of some of the space operas I used to read as a kid in the 80s. All in all, pretty standard sci-fi fare with a sense of humor, interesting characters and non-stop action.

My only complaint is that just as the story was getting interesting, it ended, thankfully, not with the cliffhanger I was expecting but still with room to continue the story. I will most likely check out part two when it's available.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator. Naramore kept the story moving at a good pace and has great comic delivery. I didn't have any problems discerning the different characters from their voices, my favorite being Nick.

History and legend enter sci-fi

Welcome to The future. Humanity was almost eradicated. Saves by the creation of a man who virtually nothing is known about. A man whose description matches that of other men who throughout history always came to the fore in mans time of need. He did great deeds and deeds that he is reviled for as well. Now another man with the same features is here and man is again in need of a hero. Will those in power be able to see past their selfish desires and help or will they betray this man for the secrets and powers they desire. Great story with twists and curves all around. Passable.

I've been listening to a lot of books since the last month and it helps that this book is on a shorter end. I wasn't bored by this book but I wasn't entertained either. The writing style felt immature and childish at several places. There weren't any really tense moments or any situation where I was on the edge of the seat. Pretty meh, tbh.

Short for a SCI-FI story but I really enjoyed it.

I'm used to Sci-Fi books that are 2-3 times the length of this book so it almost felt a bit rushed like we didn't have enough time to get to know the characters but overall I really enjoyed the story and the narration. Definitely want to listen to the second book to see where this story goes!!

Space adventure with a hint of magic

Well, maybe it’s not magic... just super advanced aliens? Action, adventure, family drama, evil villains, ...would definitely read a sequel!

Fast paced short read with lots of potential

This was a very short read compared to the books I typically listen to (5 hours vs. 12-18 hours), so I found it to be a very fast paced adventure. The characters were interesting and the plot has a lot of potential as the series goes on and more is revealed about everyone's background. However as a reader I didn't feel any deeper connection to the characters feelings or emotions. Throughout the book I didn't really feel like I knew or understand the MC and therefore felt like his relationships with the other characters were lacking. It wasn't enough to ruin the experience but it did feel like some parts of the book were rushed in their descriptions and that a longer book length (7-8 hours vs 5 hours) would have brought a bit more excitement and clarity to the story.

This was my first time listening to narration by Mikael Naramore and I felt like he did a fantastic job. Great range with male and female characters, and every character felt unique with no repeats. I could clearly tell who was speaking during each scene.

Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 because of a great performance and exciting plot, but felt that a lot of the scenes could have been slowed down and not glossed over.

A complex universe full of the possible

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely ! Ian Lotus sure has his hands full in this book. After the Chronos ring is breached he cant hide in his life of obscurity anymore and is thrust in to a crazy whirl wind of sci fi gold. This whole crazy adventure starts because of the Parsnaak and the breach of the defense system that protects humanity for sure but I think the main story here is Ian Lotus and his secret past.He cant Hide in the shadows any longer and humanity needs a hero,so what if that hero is the most wanted men in the system haha. There is action, history, secrets and a view of future politics that is very well written and executed. It is full throttle from the start! I loves how we started the book off on the Parsnaak ship.Sometimes a series feels like it had the potential to be epic. This series feels just like that.It certainly puts a lens on humanity. There are insightful nuggets that I hope pleasantly surprise you as they did me.

Have you listened to any of Mikael Naramore’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't but I would again in a heart beat. Mikael Naramore was superb . His enactment, tempo, and changing speech patterns for each individual Mikael is distinct and engaging. I do not believe the print version is any less compared to the audiobook but I will say Mikael Naramore adds a new dimension to the novel that cannot be appraised enough and would suggest to any reader to give the audio version a try.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I did.I stayed up til 4 am listening is was so enthralling.

Any additional comments?

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.

A great beginning !!!

The beauty of this book is in its simple language that the author Earl E. Hardman have used writing this enjoyable story, easy to follow without complicated brain breaking hard to understand Physics and words.
Coupled with the narration of Mikael Naramore nothing can stop it from being a great audible series.
All I see is a true potential !!!

I do recommend this audiobook for all.

I believe that my review was honest even so that I got this audiobook for free.

What a great romp!

Loved this book, and was sad when it ended. It reminded me of the kind of space opera written by the likes of Robert E Heinlein or Harry Harrison, full of humour and adventure. Just about to start the sequel, but thought I would pause to write a review to recommend this book to others, grab it wherever you can, you’ll have a great time with it!

Unexpected

The story starts with the bad-guy aliens bypassing an "impenetrable" barrier and then being told to kill some guy as part of bargain. The guy turns out to be quite tough to kill and there seems to be more to him than meets the eye.
Of course there is the obligatory female "love interest" who is also more than she seems.
The story takes a turn that I didn't expect and I wasn't totally happy with it. I don't want to give any spoilers but it seemed almost a monty-haul deux ex machina kind of solution.

A bit predictable, but still a lot of fun!

**I was provided a copy of the audiobook on behalf of the author and the narrator via audiobook boom**

I thoroughly enjoyed this wild ride! At first I wasn't particularly keen on this, but as I kept listening I just found myself wanting to know what crazy thing was going to happen next! The narrator did a brilliant job of distinguishing who was who, and Earl E. Hardman has done a phenomenal job regarding the characters and the very interesting world! I look forward to listening to book (which I already have!)

Ian is such a typical guy!

Until now, none of Humankind's enemies have been able to breach the Chronos Ring. But the Parsnaak have been given the key by a mysterious benefactor, and all he wants in return is for them to kill Ian Lotus.
Ian is just as mysterious, but even he doesn't know all his own secrets and he is about to discover the source of his strangeness.
I enjoyed the story, there was lots of action and the narrator is great. For all his strength and intelligence, Ian is such a typical guy. Super smart but turns into a complete idiot as soon as a pretty girl comes along!

Great action scifi

I really enjoyed this story, the action flows without being over the top. All of the characters are likable without being annoying and I genuinely want to carry on following this series. The narration was great as usual from Mikael Naramore providing distinctive voices without sounding silly.
