Story
The marauders, vicious alien predators, brought us to our knees. They destroyed our fleets. They burned our cities. They butchered millions. But now we fight back. Across the ruins of Earth, we rise in rebellion. In the depths of space, we seek allies. And our last warship prepares for one final battle. It's a time for heroes. A time to show our human pride. Because Earth is our home. Earth is our birthright. Earth is eternal. We will save it. Or we will die on our feet.

Story
We hide in shadows. Our planet is lost. We are the last humans, and we must go home. Two thousand years ago, aliens destroyed Earth. Our fleets shattered. Billions died. The last humans fled a burning planet, heading to the stars. Today we are still refugees. Hungry. Afraid. Our enemies hunt us everywhere. So we hide. On distant asteroids. In rundown space stations. In deep caves on frozen worlds. And we dream. Of green hills. Blue skies. Golden fields. We dream of Earth. And for the first time, we have hope.

The Changing of the Guard, the starfighter aerobatics, the starboard cannon salute...it's the best show in the galaxy. James King commands the starship Freedom. He hates his job. He was a real soldier once, back when the Freedom was a real warship. He never imagined himself running a tourist trap. Right after Christmas, he plans to retire. Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Publisher's Summary
The marauders, terrors from deep space, hit us hard.
Our starships shattered. Our armies collapsed. Our cities crumbled.
As Earth smolders, the marauders imprison us in camps. They farm us like cattle. They torture us for sport. Earth weeps.
But there is hope.
The Ghost Fleet, an ancient alien armada, might still exist in deep space. In a single starship, Sergeant Marco Emery and his friends seek this mythical fleet. They must find it. They must return with its might. Or the marauders will kill us all.

Might've been 3rd Rate Sci Fi, Ruined by Filler
Lead character's repetitive introspective whining combined with emotionless monotone narration ruins what could've been a 3rd rate (?) fun simple science fiction action romp. One dimensional bad guys alien race whose sole focus is conquer, torture, kill and eat brains is too ridiculous and the introduction of the alien ship as actually an animal is more than the suspension of disbelief can account for. The same over and over (and over and over and OVER) musings of the human characters, especially Marco seems to be fluff to stretch out the book. And is the SAME crap in every single book. (#4 was the absolute worst - I'd recommend skipping it completely - it has no redeeming action). It's annoying to the point I wouldn't follow the series if I had to pay more than the Kindle Unlimited 1.99 price. As they've raised most of the KU prices to just $2. below credit price, I guess you now get what you pay for instead of a good deal. Usually by the time I get the next in the series it's been long enough I've forgotten how bad they are... As a bad narrator can decimate a good book, having a good narrator could've made this book not as bad. It's a shame, there's some good ideas/character types in the book (the new alien introduced in this book is definitely different, kind of cute). I'd think this was a juvenile series if it weren't for the swearing and the sporadic sex scene. This is not Jack Campbell, James Corey, Mike Shepard, David Weber or Ben Bova, that's for sure. It's not even Christopher Nuttall, Jay Allan or Vaughn Heppner. Just my opinion.

Cringeworthy, non-immersive, stupid.
Non-immersive, poor writing.. the story is riddled with 20th century cliches despite taking place in the far future. Author also can't help but shoehorn his cringeworthy fad political beliefs into the story to the point it beggers belief. It's immature writing and lacks all nuance. Skip this. Narrator does a good job, though.

This seemed to be the most gory book and the most hopeful book at the same time! Our gang is split up with most in space experiencing some of the most awesome and magical sights and meeting incredible friendly creatures. Unfortunately the part of the gang on Earth is not experiencing magical sights! But there is always hope!

Enough is enough
I gave up. I liked the first 3 but in the 2nd story everyone is cruel just for the sake cruelty. The aliens are cruel, the women in the story oscillate between pity, apologising for all of their constant failures and being cruel to their friends and significant others then being cruel and bitchy if they are not met with cruelty in return. And if course there is everyone's door mat, Marco. I can't stomach any more.

Earth have fallen, now it’s a hell hole
Great story, not for children. It’s brutal and well written, sometimes just to sad how earth is and humans are threaten. But the story is great and I recommend this book as all before this one. Can’t wait till I start reading the next book in this series.
