Publisher's Summary

In this unique combination of African American music and cultural history, we come to know one of the greatest stars the world has ever seen - Eartha Kitt - as revealed by the person who knew her best, her daughter.

Eartha, who was a mix of Black, Cherokee, and White, identified as Black, but Kitt, her biological daughter by a White man, is blonde and pale. This is the story of a little White girl raised by her natural mother, who was the biggest Black celebrity in the world. For three decades before Kitt married, they traveled the world together, mother and daughter.

Eartha came from a hard background (she was born on a cotton plantation) and did not have her own familial ties to lean on - she and Kitt were each other’s whole world.

Eartha’s legacy is still felt today: We still listen to “Santa Baby” every Christmas, she starred as Helen of Troy opposite Orson Welles in Dr. Faustus, and she stole the show as Yzma in The Emperor's New Groove. Lupita Nyong'o was recently asked to name the two people she admired most. She chose Eartha Kitt and Katherine Hepburn.

In this audiobook, Eartha Kitt comes to life so vividly you’ll feel as if you'd met her. Filled with love and poignant laughter, Eartha & Kitt captures the passion and energy of two remarkable women.

More than Catwoman

I loved that she was open and very outspoken as a human being above all the labels that she was forced to carry. She wore that badge unapologetically. Give stars!

Excellent!!

I loved this book!! I was able to connect with it in so many ways. I was raised by my grandparents who came up during the same era. Eartha Kitt was among the many great entertainers my family admired. Your relationship and caregiving is what I connected with most as our experiences were similar. Your description of her dying days, the laughter, the phrases, the bathtub oh so familiar. Your mother is surely proud! Thank you for sharing this story with the world! The narration was perfect! Bravo!

Wow! A wonderful ride.

It is GREAT to hear an account if a famous person from the perspective of a child that looked not only at the famous person but also a look at themselves. And this relationship was very unique to say the least. Though there are many revelations here, none are mean and really enlighten us. Loved it.

A Force Of Nature - Of The “Earth”

Exotic and elegant- her appeal is still captivating years after her demise from colon cancer. She was “unsinkable” even in her last moments on this earth-she lived a deservedly privileged life and overcame all obstacles set in her path! Her classic rendition of Santa Baby and C’Est Si Bon are known the world over.

Incredible story

Loved Eartha Kitt’s voice. Her incredible way she used her own body to appear sexy. Her real life had started out so poorly and she turned it around. Love the mother/daughter was something my sister and I with our mother and our grandmother. Kitt’s reading the book made it very personal. Thank you.
