Five years have passed since Angie Favorite’s mother, Laura, disappeared without a trace, and Angie still hasn’t recovered. Sure, things look normal on the surface — she goes to school, works her summer job, and argues with her older brother Jason — but she can’t shake the feeling her mother didn’t leave by choice. Angie’s dad does the best he can, but his work as a musician keeps him on the road and away from home, where it’s up to Angie’s grandmother to keep an eye on the kids. She can’t be with them all the time, though, and so Angie is alone when she’s snatched from a strip mall parking lot by Scott Bittner. Angie narrowly escapes, and Bittner is arrested, but he takes his life in jail before he can offer an explanation for his crime. When his mother makes contact, begging forgiveness on her son’s behalf, Angie agrees to meet with her in hopes of finding answers to the seemingly random attack. But when she arrives at the massive Bittner estate, she is overcome by an unshakeable sense of foreboding… Part thriller, part coming-of-age tale, Favorite is an engrossing young adult novel in which nothing — and no one — is as it seems.

Slow and steady wins the race
I have had this one in my wishlist for a while now and finally got around to it. It was good but seemed to lack that something special to make me go WOW can't wait to get more. I found the characters to be interesting at times but like I said I think they lacked that little something to bring me over that hump. This is the type of story that I really do like reading, where it has ordinary people find out they have super natural elements. So, for me the plot and storyline were good. The book was a little slow going at the start but I am glad I stuck with it because it was worth the wait. I am interested to see where the story goes next in the crucial sequel. I think that will be the make or break point for me. The narration was well done. I imagine that narrating a book would be difficult but also interesting. The tone and pacing were on target but my only critic would be that at points I began to lose interest because of the voices of the characters. I was gifted this audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for an honest review via Audiobook Blast.

Yes, I'm buying the next book in the series!
The main characters may have "super powers," but, the author, Karen McQuestion, does a great job keeping the characters somewhat realistic, considering this is a fantasy book. As soon as I finished listening to the book, I knew I would be listening to the next book in the series. I am happy that the next two books are already available, with a fourth on the way.
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast.com.

A lovely YA book
This was a book I certainly would have flipped over when I was still in school. It is well balanced and flows forward without needing to force it. There was some cheese jokes in there, which I thought were kind of funny but are not for everyone.
I felt like the narrator was perfect for this book. Did an excellent job on distinguishing characters and bringing the book to life.

Not horrible
Any additional comments?
It was an okay listen. To be honest. The narrator's voice kind of got on my nerves a little. And the book itself was just a little too cheesy, at least in my opinion. Not the whole book was like that, but a good portion. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Super!
Russ has been suffering with insomnia for a while now and the only thing that seems to help is a late night walk. During one of these walks, he witnesses a strange phenomena, lights spiraling down from the sky. Initially he thinks, meteor shower but when he hears nothing about it the next day, he's a little confused. Why wouldn't anyone else have seen or heard it?? Next thing he knows, he's contacted by a girl in his school and what he finds out changes his life forever.
This is a solid start to what seems to be a fun and energetic series. Karen McQuestion did great job setting the scene and introducing her fantastic characters.
Plot wise, it took a while to get going, but once it did, it was entertaining and fairly fast paced. The idea of the powers happening to the kids and what happens next was intriguing! We are left with a lot of unanswered questions though, which I hope will get answered in future books, like, what exactly are those lights? what do the Associates want? why do only some of them get powers?
Character wise, I liked Russ, he is a typical teen, though I did find it hard to believe that he was such a good teen!! My 2 teens aren't bad, but they aren't as good as him!! Lol. His crush on one of the characters was adorable too, though I did love seeing his friendship blossom with the other character more. Let's hope it's going in the direction I think it's going!!
Anyway, this was an enjoyable listen and I definitely look forward to more in this series. It captured my attention and I'm interested to see what happens with the characters!
Maxwell Glick made for effortless listening!! He did a great job with the characterisations and gave each character their own voice. I had no trouble following who was talking and enjoyed his narration.
*I received a copy of this for review, this in no way affected my thoughts.*

The Narrator?
I'm not the type of person who likes to offend anyone, but I couldn't get past chapter 3. The story may or may not be a good one, but I just could not handle the narrator's voice. I really couldn't tell you if this is narrated by an adult or a teenager,. I've listened to other books by Karen mcquestion and I was really looking forward to hearing this one, but 2 1/2 chapters was all I could take of this narrator's voice. I may actually buy the book so I can read it, unless I can find another version on here narrated by someone else.

Enjoyable story but the narrator Glick made it boring, I even speeded it up to try and make it worthwhile. Didn't work so I used my Kindle text to words and it was way better. Too bad Glick narrates the other books so I won't be buying those audible versions

A glass of milk...
This has to be the most juvinile teen book I've read so far... the main character is as bland as a glass of milk. a teen who is afraid to admit to anyone he had been up past midnight? i mean, come on!! And that phonecall dialogue in one of the early chapters has to the most annyoing tings I've had to listen to ever. me-mike-me-mike-me-mike etc...Im only on chapter 13 so far, but storytelling is really grinding my gears(not the narration per say, just how the book is writtwn and how the story is put together and laid out)...

A compelling novel & a series with good promise
Where does Edgewood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I really enjoyed it. Our Young Adult characters develop powers from some kind of mysterious Lights in the Sky, a bad agency wants them, secrets are probed, some elements of romance - not too much though and another agency emerges which may or may not want to help them.
What other book might you compare Edgewood to, and why?
I don't like to offer comparisons as you might not like the book to which I compare this one, and this is a good book. The characters feel their ages (15) and we have some really good characters and some very nice storytelling.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I enjoyed how the author started the book and introduced how something that we would probably all like to happen to us happens on a limited basis in terms of location and number of people. This great start then sets the pace and it set my expectation for this very good book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I actually think the whole book drew me in and made me want more!
