Story
There's an 80 percent chance you're poor. Time poor, that is. Four out of five adults report feeling that they have too much to do and not enough time to do it. These time-poor people experience less joy each day. They laugh less. They are less healthy, less productive, and more likely to divorce. In one study, time stress produced a stronger negative effect on happiness than unemployment. How can we escape the time traps that make us feel this way and keep us from living our best lives?

Perfectionism is a naturally limiting mindset. For example, kids are taught to color inside the lines, and any color outside the lines is considered a mistake that must be corrected. Imperfectionism frees us to live outside the lines, where possibilities are infinite, mistakes are allowed, and self-judgment is minimal.

One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Your power to change one moment can create life-changing momentum. In The Magic of Momentum, international best-selling author Stephen Guise reveals how momentum works differently in our behavior and lives than it does in other areas. Behavioral momentum, however, is far more powerful than other forms of momentum. It’s not the “string of successes” we often perceive it to be. Behavioral momentum is layered and exponential because every action you take changes how your brain interprets that behavior.

That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Publisher's Summary
Habits that bend don’t break.
Why do so many sincere attempts to build good habits fail?
We try our best to be consistent, but some days are better than others. Inevitably, we fail when "life happens", because each day we try to hit the same targets regardless of the situations we face. How, then, can we make our habits more resilient to the turbulence of life?
By making them elastic.
Most people associate "elastic" with yoga pants and rubber bands. But the word also means "resilient" - the ability to withstand pressure. Elastic materials are far more durable than rigid and brittle ones, which will shatter under pressure. The same is true for habits.
A traditional habit is unchanging: The same behavior is done at the same time to the same level every day. It works well until the pressures of modern life break its rigid and brittle shell. Elastic habits are fluid: They can change their form and intensity to suit each unique day. They survive busy, tired, bad days. They thrive in better days.
A standard habit has one win condition. An elastic habit has nine. If traditional habits are a hammer, elastic habits are your grandfather’s garage. When you’re working on a house project, it’s not a burden to have a hammer, a wrench, and a screwdriver - you just select the one you need when you need it. Elastic habits are the same.
If you’re tired of the repetitive and exhausting grind to develop good habits, it’s time to give your habits the refreshing superpower of elasticity. Listen to Elastic Habits now, and you’ll soon discover the life-changing difference of good habits that adapt to your day.

A good system, but more wordy than it needs to be
I have mixed feelings about this book. I really liked the author’s idea of an elastic system of habits that adapts to your changing needs. However, Nietzsche once wrote, “It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.” I feel like this author would do well to adopt a similar ambition. He takes too long to get to the point and uses too many awkward metaphors.
Here are some of the things I appreciated about this book. The discussion of strengths and weaknesses of different sized goals was interesting. I liked the idea of lateral and vertical flexibility and being able to choose between mini, plus, and elite goals each day. There are plenty of examples to understand how the system works (too many examples really—they would have been better in an appendix).
I loved the idea of connecting your habits with your values. This is one area where I might actually have preferred a few more examples. I also appreciated the advice about which habits to prioritize, making the elastic habit system efficient, and avoiding choice paralysis and decision fatigue. I’m not inclined to want to track and score habits, but I can appreciate why that would be helpful for some people.
I thought Daniel Penz had a pleasant voice and generally did a fine job narrating. You miss some graphics if you listen to the audiobook, but I don’t think they’re essential to understand the material. And the author has thoughtfully provided these graphics on his website, accessible without signing up. I loved the comic for smarter strategies.
I think the elastic habit system would appeal to many people, but the book requires considerable patience. If the author had conveyed the content more concisely, I think this would appeal more to the target audience. It wouldn’t have been so annoying in an ebook or paperback that I could have skimmed, but the audiobook really dragged.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and volunteered to provide an honest review.

Best habit book that works!!
I have read many habit books, success books, and productivity books. This seems to be the only book after reading over 100 other books that not only works but is sustainable. It is consistently working day after day. I suggest to get the book but start with “mini habits” and the “how to be an imperfectionist” because they lay the groundwork for this one.

Flexibility for the win
Plain and simply this strategy has me back to weight training, after year of avoidance. It keeps my inner perfectionist in check. And it keeps me flexibility improving over time.
I don't use his paper system, rather I just adapted Google Keep and Google Calendar to keep me on track. The idea of tracking all my habits every day instantly turned me off. So, I use his system to set my intention every day.

Good but probably better as a book [for me]
I was given a free copy by the author for review, thank you :)
The good points:
some interesting ideas on expanding the mini habits concept. adding variations and a more playful approach. These modifications enhance the mini-habit concepts and I think
Based on the audio, I have added the paperback to my amazon wish list :)
The bad points:
When we got into the finer details of the system, I would have preferred to have the information in front of me. I think ideas behind the approach are great, but I just think they would be better presented on the page rather than audio. Going back for reference will not be as easy as a bookmarked physical copy.
Bottom line:
For this type of audiobook, the physical book format is probably for me. If you prefer audiobooks for learning [rather than novels/entertainment] then yes, I would recommend the audiobook as I think the content is worth it.

I didn’t know how I needed this
Honestly, this is exactly the system that I have been seeking for, and it’s the one that best suits my needs. At first, it took me a while to comprehend what the system was going to be like, from a practical point of view, but when examples were introduced, I realised I was already practising a similar practice approach in one of my daily habits. This was recommended to me by a friend who also applies the elastic habits system. All in all, great and definitely mind-changing and eye-opening, and I can’t wait to see the long term results

Decent idea, stretched out into book format
I like the premise. Basically daily habit tracking where you have an easy, medium or hard option. There is a ton of padding in this book though, which I can usually forgive if it is funny or entertaining, but I don't think it was here. Also I expected some research covering why this strategy works. Instead, he describes how he intentionally became a slob for a while so he could then try out his own strategy. Seems absurd (at least that part made me laugh though).

Excellent approach for me to eatablish a new habit
I love the idea that build up habit by set different levels, which do answer the question that why I always give up some of my goals and restart again which is really frastration.
