The holidays are swiftly approaching when the Goss family suddenly faces a life-or-death crisis. Setting their differences aside to come together to weather the storm is easier said than done, and the last thing the family needs right now is to add a little, lost puppy into mix. Story
Thirty thousand years ago, ice was storming the planet. Among the species forced out of the trees and onto the steppes by the advancing cold was modern man, who was both predator and prey. No stranger to the experiences that make us human - a mother's love and a father's betrayal, tribal war and increasing famine, political intrigue and forbidden love, joy and hope and devastating loss - our ancestors competed for scant resources in a brutal landscape.

He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Then they brought home Marley, a wriggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, 97-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. Publisher's Summary
Ellie is a very special dog with a very important purpose. From puppyhood, Ellie has been trained as a search-and-rescue dog. She can track down a lost child in a forest or an injured victim under a fallen building. She finds people. She saves them. It's what she was meant to do.
But Ellie must do more. Her handlers - widowed Jakob, lonely Maya - need her, too. People can be lost in many ways, and to do the job she was born to do, Ellie needs to find a way to save the people she loves best.
Adapted from the beloved New York Times best-selling novel A Dog's Purpose, Ellie's Story is an inspiring tale for young animal lovers.

Basically an excerpt from A Dog's Purpose
SPOILER ALERT! While I loved the story "A Dog's Purpose" this is just basically a rehash of the story of Ellie and her training to be a search and rescue dog. Only buy this book if you are afraid of how your kids will react to the death scenes in "a Dog's Purpose". There are no dogs dying in this book, but Ellie does find some bodies in an earthquake area. The way it is listed here, you are made to believe this is actually a continuation of the series, but it really isn't. I would have listened to "A Dog's Purpose" again if I'd known this was simply going to be an excerpt from that book. I'm expecting "Bailey's Story" to be pretty much the same. One reviewer on Amazon didn't like the narrator, but I thought she did a great job of sounding like a puppy and then sounding less so as Ellie got older. It was not bad, but I got the "been there, done that" feeling while reading this book, and actually wondered if they had simply re-labeled "A Dog's Purpose". It's kindof like a recording artist putting out another album with most of the same songs as their first successful album and riding the waves of that first success while disappointing fans with nothing new.

You are a GOOD dog, Ellie!
If you could sum up Ellie's Story in three words, what would they be?
Never doubt yourself
What did you like best about this story?
It's hard to pick just one piece. The whole story was what I liked best about the story! I guess a moment that sticks out is towards the end, but I don't want to spoil it for everyone. I loved this story because it continued Ellie's story from A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey.
Have you listened to any of Ann Marie Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first time listening to Ann Marie Lee's performance. Ann Marie really brought Ellie to life for me, filled with vocal emotion and being able to juggle the many other voices in the story. I am sure I will enjoy other readings by Ann Marie and look forward to hearing her again.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I enjoyed listening over a few days because it was like a continuing saga and I looked forward to the next episode each day.
Any additional comments?
W. Bruce Cameron has touched my heart and helped me remember my own dog, Riley, who passed 2 years ago. I loved the stories and appreciated the two "mini-novels" that extended Bailey's and Ellie's stories. This is a fun story, with lots of laughing and crying (well, not too much), and I was right in the story with Ellie and her people! Definitely a must read (as are any of Cameron's books on animals).

Narrator not good
The story was great but the narrator apparently thought she needed to sound like a little girl who was supposed to be VERY dramatic. It was very annoying and distracting. I almost quit listening--it was that bothersome. My advice to the narrator: don't give up your day job.

Great listen for entire family
I purchased this audiobook last minute hoping to keep my 7 year olds attention for a 4 hour car trip we were taking. Both of us absolutely loved the story. We laughed, I cried and in between that we enjoyed an awesome story about a pup turned SAR dog named Ellie. I love how W. Bruce Cameron is able to tell an entire story from a dogs perspective and keep it not only enjoyable but a really really great story for all ages.
