Publisher's Summary

Put aside what you read on the web about Elon Musk. There is a significant amount more to him than just his genius and his accomplishments. This book lays out the life that he had before arriving in the United States and looks at the boy inside who set a path for himself and literally went through the fires of hell before getting the opportunities that he wished for. He did not fall into wealth and he did not work his way up the corporate ladder, Elon made every bit of his life that you see today.

Some of the stories that you find in this book will shock you and change the way you look at your own challenges. From arriving in a new country with just a few bucks and not knowing anyone, to working on farms and cleaning up after barn animals, to working in the fires of a toxic furnace, Elon Musk is an inspiration for a generation because he represents many of the values that define today's Millennials and the Generation X folks.

From PayPal to Tesla to SpaceX, the driving force that built these icons of the imagination was the desire to make the world a better place for everyone; it was never about the money. This book gives you a deeper look and analysis of a man that defies the traditional mold of industrialist, entrepreneur, and achiever.

Bitter much?

If you respect Elon Musk at all, don't waste your time. "Author" spent a whole chapter whining about apartheid, you know from when Musk was a child. Then reminded you every single chapter he is no Einstein or Edison. Any rumor or gossip that has every been said about Musk, this person wanted to give a platform to. Kevin Kollins did a good job narrating a bad book.

20% facts, rest commentary/ preaching / repetition

This is not a biography. After listening to this book I can hardly recall what I’ve learned about Musk. I found it particularly annoying that the flow of the story is constantly interrupted by the comments / reflections from the author. Perhaps this books works as a motivational, but not to get to learn about Musk.

Inspirational

This book inspired me to work harder and smarter. Elon had a vision for what he wanted in life. It wasn't about money or success; it was about making his dreams come true. He grew up being bullied and he was use to the doubters and haters. He believed in himself and believed in his vision.

Best book on Elon Musk to date

Although it is almost outdated as far as the technology goes, this book serves as the definitive biography of Elon Musk in what will likely become known as the early years.

Worth listening

This book made me fall in awe and love for this man. It was not a cheesy book, singing his praises, nor was it a critical book set out to tear apart Elon. It was candid and well written. Made me understand just what it takes to be a man like Musk. Named some very important people in the industry. I highly recommend it.

Great Insight

It was great insight of a man who has always followed his dream for space, electric car, and green energy. He is transforming the landscape. He takes huge risks when everyone doubts him and he finds a way to make it work. I give five stars because of what it takes to build three companies to what they are today.

Great listen

A very good insight into Elon's world. I find the book riveting, though a bit schizophrenic in pace at times. Prior to reading the book, I know nothing about he man other than from brief new clips. Always thought of him as some way to the left activist type. I've gained much respect for his vision and understand him better as a person. A very good book.

Fascinating listen about a fascinating man

Elon Musk may not be the kind of person you'd like to work for, but he is someone who's going to change the world.

great biography

After a string of bad business books, my expectations were low going into this one, but I immediately became drawn in. The book is very well written and researched and the author does a great job cataloging and bringing together many different businesses and experiences. The author is honest in his assessments and brings in a lot of sources, but stays very respectful to Elon Musk. Highly recommended read!

Fifty years from now, Elon will rank with Ford...

Full disclosure... Elon works for me. As a stock holder in Tesla I wanted to learn more about the unicorn that runs this extraordinary company. It's entertaining and gives a thumbnail sketch of the man who built a great electric car and now will sell you a roof to power it.

seems speculative

Okay but a lot of the info on the psychology of Elon seems very speculative. The author's understanding of psychology seems quite poor. For example it says many times that Elon has a photographic memory. There are articles in Psychology Today and Scientific America saying there is no such thing.

Admiration and appreciation.

Before retirement I was a project engineer on many projects. I have the greatest respect for and appreciation for and admiration for Elon Musk. I know superior talent when I see it. I wish him luck. I probably will not live to see it, but i see "why"" Mars and hope he makes it..

Elon Musk is probably the most amazing person

There really was nothing I did not like in this book. It was very well written. No one is changing the world like Elon is doing. I have to laugh at his detractors. Obviously they never listen his history.

Incredible and engaging

If things go as planned, Musk will go down in history as one of the most innovative entrepreneurs of our time.

Masterfully Composed Bio for a Phenomenal....

This Biography is a masterpiece. Literally erase what you THINK you know about this man, and prepare yourself to be "exposed" to what unfiltered dedication, ambition, and INTENTION look like.

Mars or BUST!

I am still in the process of listening this book as it is lengthy. Mr Musk is an amazing man with the spirit of a Steve Jobs who never says never. He is a very driven man and expects the same dedication in others. In this way he has developed a powerful business in the Telstar car as well as the SpaceX company to launch magnificent, innovative vehicles. He believes in travel to Mars and just might succeed.
