Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal best-selling series.

Kate Marshall’s investigation into a journalist’s disappearance sends her down an unexpectedly twisted path in a riveting thriller by the author of Shadow Sands.

Kate Marshall’s fledgling PI agency takes off when she and her partner, Tristan Harper, are hired for their first big case. It’s a cold one. Twelve years before, journalist Joanna Duncan disappeared after exposing a political scandal. Most people have moved on. Joanna’s mother refuses to let go.

When Kate and Tristan gain access to the original case files, they revisit the same suspects and follow the same leads - but not to the same dead ends. Among Joanna’s personal effects, Kate discovers the names of two young men who also vanished without a trace.

As she connects the last days of three missing persons, Kate realizes that Joanna may have been onto something far more sinister than anyone first believed: the identity of a serial killer hiding in plain sight. The closer Kate comes to finding him, the darker it’s going to get.

Robert Bryndza does it again!

Another gripping addition to the Kate Marshall series. My only regret is how quickly I finished it 😅

Excellent

have been waiting for this book. I loved the first two in this series and this one was worth waiting for.

There are a lot of characters and their interconnections are interesting. Kate and Tristan are beginning to get a handle on their PI business - and the caravan park. The cold case of a missing reporter sets them on a trail that leads to gay bars, Parliament, and the beach. Great story!

And the narration is, again, very well done.

Another excellent Bryndza story!

I'm so glad my boss introduced me to Robert Bryndza 's books. I've loved them all! I'm looking forward to the next one. I'll buy it as soon as it becomes available for pre-order. Kristin Atherton does an excellent job with the narration. Five stars for the narration.

My favorite from the series!

Thoughtful, thrilling and unpredictable! Kate & Tristan do not disappoint and the new characters are in this story take on a life of their own.

Well crafted. Tight.

The author's ability to paint a portrait and frame a situation in vivid detail without overdoing it and wallowing in minutia is what impressed me the most about this story. The characters behaved and thought like real people. At no point did I get the sense that the storyline was forced or contrived. This kind of creative work draws me into the story, walking alongside the characters as opposed to observing it from a distance like a drive-in movie. The narrator did a convincing job of portraying the different characters.

Excellent mystery

This is the best book in the series so far. All of the characters are so vivid. The layers of the plot in this mystery were very compelling. Kate and Tristan are both very interesting to follow as they launch their detective agency. The narrator is top notch.

liked it but..

Really needs to use another word than "said". It drove me crazy, there are many other verbs besides that one.

I hope there will be a Kate Marshall book 4

Another really good book! I had a harder time keeping track of all the characters in this book than I did in the other two, but in the end it all came together. These books are so well-written and feel so real. I love the main characters and the narrator does a phenomenal job. She's one of the best I've heard and I've listened to hundreds of books.
