Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Being an empath is not so easy. According to research, 20 percent of the global population is affected by high sensitivity to issues and emotions. However, the level of sensitivity varies from one person to another, where overly sensitive people are classified as empaths. High sensitivity is often misunderstood, whereby people may view empaths as weak people who need to develop a thick skin in order to survive the numerous challenges in life.

If you've answered "yes" to these questions...it looks like you're an empath, a person who's unusually sensitive to people's emotions. At first sight, being an empath may feel like a curse. You're constantly overwhelmed by people around you, someone's always trying to make use of your kindness, and energy vampires flock towards you like sharks toward a drop of blood in the ocean.

Being an empath is a gift. It allows you to experience positive emotions at a much deeper level. It magnifies love and joy. You can easily understand non-verbal communication. You are a compassionate person. People like being around you because you are kind and you treat other people well. However, being an empath is also a curse. You experience extreme highs, and intense periods of sadness or depression. This means that you experience pain and other negative emotions deeply. When you are sad, it feels like you are trapped in a dark, deep well.

Publisher's Summary
Empathy is an emotional ability over which most humans have some degree of control. It allows us to feel emotions indirectly through others, and sometimes also physical sensations. Most of us show little empathy every day without being aware of it, as it is very essential for all aspects of our life. Empathy is what forces us to yawn when we see someone else doing it, laughing at something funny, or comforting someone who is suffering.
Without it, all of our interpersonal relationships would be cold, calculated, robotic or insensitive; Violence would be seen as a simple and easy way to resolve conflicts, and the feeling we call "love" would be reduced to a crushing. We need empathy for society to function peacefully, and during times when it seems to be lacking, we tend to idealize it.
What is the difference between having empathy and being empathic? Having empathy means that our heart is with another person in joy or pain. But for empaths, it goes much further. We feel the emotions, energy and physical symptoms of others in our bodies, without the usual defenses of most people.
Empathy is an invaluable resource for empaths and for all those who want to cultivate their empathy and develop coping skills in our environment world of encouragement, while fully embracing your gifts of intuition, compassion, creativity, and spiritual connection.
This book includes:
- What is empathy
- Types of empathy
- How to hug your gift
- Social anxiety and empathy
- Empathy and relationships
- Empathy and work
- Empathy and narcissism
- How to recover and heal from narcissistic abuse
- Empathy and energetic vampires
- Empathy and spiritual hypersensitivity
- The spiritual goal of empathy
- How to support an empathetic young man
- And much more...
For anyone who has been told to "grow thick skin", here is a lifelong guide to staying fully open while building resilience, exploring their gifts of depth and compassion, and feeling welcomed and appreciated by a world that desperately needs what it has to offer.

This is an outstanding book
An excellent basic guideline for people who seek answers to experiences they feel but don't understand. While the entire subject is even more complex throughout any given person's life, this book is an excellent starting point for building a knowledge base about what empaths experience. I was particularly encouraged about the research that approximately 20% of the human population have these abilities. It's a relief to have science verify what we empaths already know.

Narration is robotic, disjointed and hard to follow
Narration sounds like a computer. Emphasis is placed on the wrong word and their are odd pauses mid sentence. Some words are spoken with a pause mid word like they are two different words. Very disjointed. Very hard to follow what is being said. Story is lost in poor narration.
