Publisher's Summary

When an experimental starship test goes horribly wrong, a scientist from Earth finds herself fighting for her survival, and her only lifeline is a wild, powerful alien king.

Waking on an alien world, wracked by pain, Dr. Poppy Ellison is confused and adrift…until his voice calls to her in the darkness. The big, wild, enthralling man reveals that she’s been infected and is turning into an alien shape-shifter. Poppy has always been smart, practical, and boring, but with her entire life turned upside down, there is no one she can trust…except for this alien wolf.

Emperor Brodin Damar Sarkany is king of Damar and its shape-shifters. As wild as the forest city they call home, the Damari can be volatile, always fighting to control the wolf inside. Brodin uses his immense strength to keep his people in check and protect them from the most dangerous evil of all—his war-mongering father. He can’t afford the distraction of a small, tantalizing woman from Earth, even when everything about Poppy sings to the instincts of both man and wolf.

As his father’s ruthless warlord attacks, innocent children are at risk, and Poppy knows she has to help by mastering her new, emerging abilities. She must also face the shocking passion that explodes between her and Brodin. But as Poppy and Brodin hunt down the enemy, they uncover a plot that could mean the destruction of all the Damari…if they don’t stop it in time.

Waste of a credit

This had to be the most boring book I've tried to listen to in a very long time, it drags on and on with nothing really happening..

Exciting again and again

Good story. A little predictable but not of these books are and that I what we love about them. Definitely needs a female narrator all the voices sounded like husky men.

Pretty Good Book

This book had an interesting storyline with enough action to keep it going. Vivienne still goes a bit overboard with narration, but she does a good job as does Stephen. Will continue to listen if this is a series.

The Male Narrator killed the story for me

I enjoy everything that Vivienne Leheny does and this performance was no different. However I didn't enjoy Stephen Dexter's female characters voices.

Brodin

Brodin takes in the infected Poppy as a favor to his brother. He has no idea that all things will change upon her arrival and recovery, or that she'll play a huge role in the continued war against his father.

The chemistry is amazing. I love how strong each still get to be and how everything lines up to end this second chapter of the Galactic Kings series.

Exciting story!

4.5 Stars

Emperor Brodin Damar Sarkany is tasked with helping human Poppy Ellison survive the change occurring in her body after she is purposely infected with blood that turns her into a partial wolf shifter. This is a rigorous change, and Poppy is having a hard time adjusting to the pain. For some reason, Brodin makes her feel safe when she is hurting the most. He promises his brother that he will see Poppy through the change, and he is honoring that promise, but he is also drawn to her for some reason. These two brothers and a third brother rule three of the planets in a solar system comprised of five planets. One is uninhabitable and the other is ruled by their father, who seems to be power-hungry and is sending horrible hordes of animals, creatures, and warlords to each planet to disrupt them and hopefully overthrow each one. His ultimate aim is to have his sons by his side so he can use their power to rule the entire solar system. However, his sons are fighting against his rule and his tyranny, and fighting the invading forces that he sends to attack each planet.

This book was difficult to put down once I started it. It is tense and fast-paced. The action rarely slows down, and there is always a new challenge to face. Brodin and Poppy learn to fight together and save each other several times throughout the course of the story. They are surrounded by a good team of other fighters and they aren’t afraid to face danger and overwhelming odds. Poppy’s skills are the perfect match for Brodin’s skills. She is strong in areas where he isn’t as strong, and vice versa. They make an excellent team. This story is just so much fun! These characters are likeable and they face their challenges with strength and dignity. They are supportive of the others around them. It was unexpectedly delightful to have Brodin know everyone in his village. Even though he is an emperor, this detail makes him more likeable and approachable. And making Poppy so intelligent and curious makes her a very intriguing protagonist in her own right.

The narrators do a fine job of conveying the story to listeners. The recording quality is excellent, and the voice acting is clear, distinct, and appropriate for the characters they portray. Each character has a distinct voice. There aren’t any extraneous noises either.

This is the second story in this series. It can be read or heard as a stand-alone, but would be a better experience if readers have read or listened to Overlord first. This is a wonderful series by a very creative writer.

Fantastic

Anna Hackett continues to draw me in with Brodin and Poppy’s instant attraction storyline. Their story stresses the importance of feeling that you belong somewhere and with someone special too! Their story has it all, action, adventure, sexy times, lasting friendships, and funny quips! Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter do a fantastic job narrating. I look forward to more of the series.

Galactic Excellence! Amazing Story & Listen🎧

Anna Hackett continues to wow me with another amazing, out of this world, SciFi Romance novel set in her “Galactic Kings” series. If you have not read or listened to the first book, “Overlord” I highly recommend that you do, not only is the story and world building is fantastic but it where the two lead characters of this book are introduced. That said, the author does provide all the info you need to enjoy this book on its own, but having experienced the first book brings more depth to the story and the world it is takes place in. Dr. Poppy Ellison, a scientist, whose space mission failed when her ship found its way into a worm hole and crash landing on another planet galaxies away. An alien planet named Zhalto that is in the midst of a war, a power struggle. The pilot of the ship, her friend Mallory, was rescued by Rhain, the Overlord of the planet but she was captured by the enemies and they used her as a lab rat, experimenting on her. Mallory comes to her rescue with the help of the Overlord but Poppy was in bad shape, so Rhain called his brother, a shifter, who was familiar with what they were experimenting on her, to help heal her. His brother, Emperor Brodin Damar Sarkany, is the king of his own planet and he brings Poppy back with him to his planet, Damar. Damar is having the same problems as Zhalto, since it is their father who is causing the war, he was to power over all the planets. Brodin does everything he can to help heal Poppy, she was injected with DNA from other species trying to change her into shapeshifter, a new and improved one. But the experiment did not go as expected but she did experience changes and gained new powers and abilities. Poppy has a brilliant mind and once she gets on her feet she becomes a huge asset to Brodin and the people of Damar. The chemistry between Poppy and Brodin is powerful and so is the attraction. This exciting and captivating story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a steamy romance. Anna Hackett, thank you for another wonderful and out of this world story and adventure.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter do an awesome job bringing these characters and story to life. I am loving how they take each role, run with it, and make it their own. They give each character their own distinct voice and personality, which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. Vivienne Leheny plays Poppy’s role with perfection, she grasps every trait of her personality, from her softness to her badassery. Stephen Dexter does the same for Brodin, playing the Emperor’s part like the king he is. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary character as well. They set the perfect tone and pace for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

such a great second entry!

This is the second book in the series and follows Poppy and Brodin. The series follows a trio of brothers who are being attacked by their father's mercenaries because the father wants them to join him in trying to dominate the universe. (Fatherly love- shrug). I first read the ebook but then wanted to relive the story through the audiobook.

The story: Poppy was saved in the last story but she was also hurt and turned to become like Brodin, a shifter. As always, Anna Hackett writes these strong heroines who are supported by their alpha males but who make important contributions to the story line and the eventual success of the couple as a whole. While it's obvious that Ms Hackett follows a formula, the formula is a winning one and is punctuated by really imaginative worlds and details that bring the read to a rich, fantastical world. When I feel the need to get away, I always revisit her worlds.

For my second read, I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter, both fantastic narrators by their own right. Dexter's voice is a little soft and smooth for the growly Brodin (at least in my mind!) but his ability to modulate his voice is welcome and made this a fun story to immerse myself in.

Excellent

This story starts with Dr. Poppy Ellison on the planet Damar waking to a deep strong voice that pulls her, that voice belongs to Emperor Brodin Damar Sarkany who rules the planet, he is helping Poppy who was infected and is turning into a shapeshifter like him. It’s quite the adventure with an evil scientist trying to destroy them causing battles at every turn, while Poppy and Brodin are being pulled together by forces out of their control. Their relationship is one of uncertainty and scorching hot attraction that leads to smoking hot sexual interactions. I’m looking forward to the third and fourth books with great anticipation, the series is more than worth getting and I highly recommend it.

just love Anna's writing

you have to know the previous books in order to get what I'm saying about mighty Max.
just love this series and riley edwards. I'm really looking forward to declan as he's been mysterious since Red team (violets story) and TeX's comments at the end of this book just enhances it.
and Autumn is edgy and on a mission.
I love the way these books cross within susan stoker and I'm ticked that I didn't read Bubba and Zoe's story. I stopped one book shy and switched to another team. pace is always good and it's so good to have all the other members come into the fray.
narrator's, what more can I say, always brilliant. maxine is my all time fave.
