Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Emotional, Stressful and Wonderful
I've noticed trends in a lot of the YA scifi books that I've read, particularly those with a strong female lead, and this series follows all of them. It has the usual love stories, and the usual rise from the lower class, and a strong female protagonist - which to be clear, I always enjoy, AND, this book still managed to give you a plot line to love, even though you've kind of heard it all before. This particular book shows how much Aelin Galathynius has grown and how strong she truly is.
This book was extremely sexual, more so than any of the books prior, and I would not recommend it for the 11-13 age group. There were many sex scenes and sexual conversation and situations, so I think parents should use their own judgement.
I'm thrilled with this book, I wish I waited until the next book in the series was also released, because this is a doozy.

Why the graphic Sex scenes?
Loved the story, great plot with great characters.
However, it seemed like the author thought she needed wildly graphic sex scenes (this also in her other book series Court of Mist and Fury) to create intimacy between characters. Totally unnecessary, especially for a young adult novel. Something I would never recommend for the young and impressionable.

somewhat predictable
The narration was solid even though I'm not really a fan of Evans voice, she always does great work.
I find the story predictable and I feel that the writer doesn't really understand cruelty. what she paints as cruel just feels generic to me.
I think the story would have been better served if she would have focused more on the story and catered less to the sex appeal of the audience. not that I mind the fun bits of course but it overshadows the story to me.

Good for adult audiences
I loved the story but cringed through all of the detailed sex scenes and explosion of explitives. Aelin's toes curl a lot, and everybody is "incarnate". (I dont know if that name is spelled right. Im more of an audio listener.) I hope Sarah tones down the adult content in her next books, or I wont be buying any more copies in the throne of glass series for my kids to stumble over.

As compared with the others in the series
Something changed in this book,(possible spoiler ahead).
!!!!!!!!Semi spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!
Couple things bothered me, because they weren't like the first few books a all.
1) So for some reason this book "gods damn" as everyone's emphasis words no matter the situation which was kind of annoying.
2) Everyone is having sex, this book has several very descriptive sex scenes... sure people messed around before and the second book I believe had some . But this book is ridiculous.
Overall I'd probably give it 3 1/2 stars, but since I can't , I'll give it 4, since these are basically my problems. Lol Just seems like a YA book, but this is not. Glad I read it before my daughter .

Not my flavor.
Most of this series is brilliant, the vibrant world, interesting characters, and struggle for hope are parts that have kept me enjoying this series. This book however added some things that I really didn't like, and think detracted from the overall story. I believe there are times and places where sex scenes can be appropriate but many of the scenes depicted in the book felt like cheap smut, placed there as fan service to keep people interested in the books. it could have been more enjoyable if left to the imagination and not depicted in such a graphic and vivid way. The only other main issue I had was a 30 minute torture scene. It was placed to cause tension and build anticipation, but lasted far too long. The way it was handled caused me to loose all interest in the book or the outcome of the series.
The series as a whole is a good one, and one that have enjoyed. I would, however, not recommend this particular book to others. It just isn't my flavor.

Parts were Unnecessary
I appreciate how the author finally brought all the characters together and explained mysteries from her series. However I do not understand why she chose to be so sexually explicit with all of her characters. It didn't even seem to fit in certain places. She went from one overly lusty scene to the next, almost as if she got stuck and couldn't think of how to progress she story so she had all of her characters be fully and uncontrollably horny. It didn't make sense in context and seemed cheap and trashy. Besides her brief attempt at being an erotica writer, I liked this book.

I truly enjoyed Empire of Storms
Empire of storm is great story and I look forward to the next release. I have to say Aelin is just so lovable and she has won my heart. She is beautiful, smart , so giving. She is willing to scare her life so others may live. She is amazing.
I highly recommend this book. This book is full of adventure. Aelin may sound so full of herself; but she is full of love for the people and causes that she loves.
Rowan, Doran, Manon, Aedion and Lorcan are also great characters. I like the way we were able to her different characters POV.
I don't think this book is appropriate for kids as young as 11-13. I do think that there are parts of the book which are not appropriate for kids which are that young.
An applause to Sarah Mass and Elizabeth Evans. Good job.
I can see this series book becoming a tv show or movie.

TO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT!
What disappointed you about Empire of Storms?
I enjoyed the story, but certainly DID NOT NEED the SEXUALLY EXPLICIT chapters! Elizabeth Evans did a great job, I enjoyed her narration very much, she was able to bring the characters alive with each voice.
What other book might you compare Empire of Storms to and why?

Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Evans – was your favorite?

These books are great, but I'm sure you're aware of that if you've got to this point. What I really wanted to mention is the voice actor for this series is phenomenal. She captures the tone, essence, and voices of the characters and story. I've not come across a better narrator than this one here.

What Happened!
I liked this series until this book. The parts with Menon the witch were awesome as always but given that Celena is the main protagonist I listened to slightly less than half of the book and the character/ story development with her was non existent. Add in some terrible and weak love scenes that turns her into a spineless wonder and it ruined the series for me. I really did want to know what happens with Menon but couldn't bring myself to finish the what is essentially a load of vapid chapters to find out. Sadly, I returned the book.

Lags compared to the rest of the series
A lot of plot filling and people saying 'gods damn' and not a lot of interesting story. Honest, if they took out every 'gods damn' the book would be half as long. Not sure I'll continue with the series anymore.

Empire of Storms
This book broke me, the emotions I went through reading it. Just wow!!
This book is a great fantasy read. I was hooked from the start and devoured every word. A great read, I really enjoyed it.

I cried when I realised...
A tad slow to start, but oh my wyrd, that ending. I'm in tears. I also loved that there was less swearing in this one. There's also a lot more sex, but they've been building up to it for the last four books, so not unexpected.. it's easily skipped if you're so inclined..

Sweet torture!
Aaarrgh! The not wanting it to be over versus the wanting to know what happens.

Amazing story teller
Sadly now I have to wait for the next one.
I could stop listening. Loved it, love the series. I think I might have to start at the beginning again.

MY FAVOURITE OF THE BOOKS SO FAR.
I loved the multiple romance stories forming, the action and the suspense. the story line is complex and can be confusing at time but manages to link up again. The narrator Elizabeth is AMAZING at performing all the characters and their voices. MY favourite book so far bc the romance and couples and character development that happened is so fulfilling and empowering. Cant recommend enough

Brilliant
Elizabeth Evans shines again as does the relationship tension of Sarah J. Maas. Some really brilliant and complex female characters that I truly love. Sadly the tension falls a little flat with the central conflict of the story, which feels repetitive and basic.

Keeps getting better!
This series is amazing and gets better with each book. Arguably SJM’s best series. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next one but need to take a break as I am too obsessed!

Don't be fooled
the stories don't actually get longer in the later books, the reader just takes a lot of little pauses between every sentence. I listen at 1.5x speed and even then you could drive a train through some of those pauses. don't know why she's all of a sudden decided to do this but it's made it review worthy
