Publisher's Summary

Zac Riggs would not have survived on Ludus for very long without his adopted sister, Gazra-tam. Gazra-tam is an ocelot-race Mo'hali, and Riggs is an engineering student from Earth who was transported to Ludus. The two make an unlikely team.

Riggs and his sister had been comfortable living in a trap-filled dungeon before bandits attacked. But now there are bodies all over the floor and it doesn't quite feel like home anymore.

The time has come for Gazra-tam to lead Riggs out of the wilderness to a city. Ludus is full of dangers, but the two are not defenseless. Riggs has budding, if underwhelming, magical powers, and his sister is good with a spear. Hopefully it will be enough.

Adventure awaits...whether they're ready or not. But with danger comes opportunity, too.

And if Riggs can figure out how to use his engineering know-how on a fantasy world full of magic and monsters, it might give him exactly the edge that he needs.

Good!

Pretty good book! Good addition to the Ludus/Delvers LLC universe. Underpowered MC that uses his powers in a smart way to defeat his opponents. One vague mention of the Delvers and that's all so don't hope for a connection with the original books characters in this first book, maybe in the future?

Good amount of action, twists, and emotional scenes.

Has promise but marred by unending introspection.

Jeff Hays is always awesome. Introspection and inner monologue is fine. It gives the listener a peak on the MC's mindset, thought process and tactics. MC kept digressing and just talking too long especially during in the heat of combat. It really took me out.

Some of the dialogue was witty and funny and worldbuilding is great. But another problem is author constantly dumbing down MC to create a situation or tension. I wish he upped the challenge instead.

Stuff happens to an uninteresting MC.

You know those stories where the main character starts out weak and unsure of themselves, but in the face of adversity they grow into a hero. Now imagine one of those stories, except there's no interesting character growth, and the "adversity" is just a series of random violent situations. That's this book.

What was the author thinking?

I don't understand why the author decided to leave out 1/3 of the book. The book seem to be missing the beginning of the book. Closer to a second book of a series. The character desperately needed some kind of backstory or introduction. I could possibly tolerate the lack of a backstory if the beginning of the book had exciting action. Even that was truncated. The only reason I gave this book two stars is because I like the narrator. I'm going to try to see if I can return this book for credit. Not sure if I'll be able to since I've had an unlucky string of returning books the last few months.

first read into This world

I knew of dungeon delvers but never read them (listened). I am generally put off my series with books under 15-20 hours.

this caught my attention, and so I hopped in.

fun book, and now I'm off to listen to dungeon delvers to see what I have been missing.

Nice addition

This audiobook is a nice addition to Delvers and Hazard. If you liked those series you should definitely give this one a try.

A rare indie gem

This is an incredibly well-written, highly entertaining story. It is quite rare to find an indie author with such strong storytelling skills. The odd, meandering, disjointed writing that most indie authors produce is not present here at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see Steven Keiler become a famous, top rated sci-fi and fantasy author. Plus, the narration by Jeff Hays was outstanding. This is also the only audiobook I've ever heard that had the equivalent of a Marvel "post credits" scene. It's a riot.

A great addition to the Ludas universe.

I always enjoy books narrated by Soundbooth Theater and Jeff Hays performance was top notch as always. Following the journey of Riggs and his adopted mohali sister was enjoyable from beginning to end. Big fan of Delvers LLC and this story was an excellent addition to the universe.

so good!!!!

honestly this book is up there with the first two books of delvers llc. I'm so glad I got this and really hope there's a second book in the works. The author created unique characters but nailed everything about the delvers universe that makes them a joy to read and listen to. My only ask is we get more Marco in book 2! Jeff hays sets a high bar for narrators everywhere, this book was no exception.

Wonderful addition to the world of Ludus!

Great story and narration!

This epic tale follows the story of a college student and a cat girl as they try to make their way through the untamed world of Ludus.

Soundbooth Theater does a fantastic job of narration!

I really enjoyed this story - it was a wonderful addition to the sagas of Ludus!

I can't wait to find out what happens next!
