Publisher's Summary

In the future, mankind has learned to manipulate their DNA, harnessing only the good genes, like intelligence, strength, and height. They called this prime DNA and humans rushed to get these new pDNA injections, which gave them superhuman-like qualities. Centuries later, however, their DNA became so engineered that humans rarely lived past the age of 30, thanks to a new deadly disease called the Kiss. The only cure is to receive an injection of oDNA, DNA from an Original human that hasn't been genetically altered. Problem is there aren't many Originals left.

When 17-year-old Sage wakes up in a hospital with no memories, her only clue are the words "Run Now" written on her hand. Trusting her instincts, Sage barely escapes but only to collide with an outside world that would kill to get their hands on her.

With the help of unlikely allies, including a boy with hidden bat wings, Sage makes the dangerous trek to Eden, the last place for people like her and the only place she'll be safe from those at the Institute who would use her blood until she died. But with deadly Primes hot on their trail, Sage must make the ultimate sacrifice to save the people she's grown to love.

Loved this book!

Yes, it’s a little less dark than some dystopian novels of it’s kind, but I think it’s totally worth it! Couldn’t wait to get on to the next one. Happy to find a YA novel without explicit content and full of curse words.

best book I've read in a while

this series has its claws in me. I love the weird concept of the story, the female lead is strong, the narration is on point, it's really really well written, and the romance isnt annoying. if you see this, take a chance on this book if you enjoy genres like this. I'm the type of person who isnt afraid to stop reading a book in the 3rd chapter. btw, I'm 22 years old. the characters in are mature or else I don't think I would have enjoyed it this much. this series is full of action and I found it hard to stop listening.

YA book

I should preface this by saying i am in my 30’s and this is a YA novel. I do enjoy YA, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, etc, but this book was too juvenile. There is a lot of inconsistencies in the knowledge of the main character. The writing felt like it truly came from a preteen. Sometimes the narration can help save the book, but in this case the narrator felt flat and robotic. I thought the premise was interesting but the story telling didn’t hold up. I will not be finishing the series.

Enjoyable, but nothing new

I really appreciate the premise of this story and that it is clean. But I feel like the idea could have been developed further than the stereotypical story that was presented.

Captivating

This isn't normally something I read, I like more erotic type books, but I am so glad I took a chance with this. This story captures you in the beginning and doesn't let go. The narrator Stephanie Willing does a phenomenal job and the author wrote a brilliant book. Please take the time to listen to this book, you won't regret it

Like reading the script to a movie! Beyond good!

I came across this book looking for something free to read/listen too to help me pass the time as I cleaned the house. I had no clue that I would be sucked into this world and would love every second! This dystopia is modern and relatable! This was the first time I read/listened to a book that actually felt like a movie! The narrator truly brought this book to life! So much so that I would be inclined to follow her as a narrator.

I love how the author made Sage feel so human. It made her relatable because really, what does running 6 miles actually feel like for superheroes/athletes? Like are they ever tired or weak during their endless fighting. Lol. Just needed to toss this in here.

Overall, the story drew me in in the first chapter and I didn't want to stop listening. It was action-packed, full of loveable characters (my favorite is Jenna, of course) and super suspenseful of what's going to happen next?!

YA dystopia with a new twist

Enjoyed the fresh take on YA dystopia. In the future, mankind has learned to manipulate their DNA, harnessing only the good genes, like intelligence, strength and height. They called this prime DNA and humans rushed to get these new pDNA injections, which gave them superhuman-like qualities and as a result lost humanity.

What I appreciated was a strong main woman protagonist. She developed throughout the novel and she was likeable. Other characters were developed as well. When you root for characters in any way; survive, fall in love, escape, etc to some degree the author has accomplished their goal. I wanted to keep listening and wanted to learn more. Although I am out of the age group for YA, I regularly read YA dystopia novels as they are quick listens and many times highly entertaining. This book captured me right away with the concept and characters. It certainly makes you think - this is not outside the realm of possibilities in the near future, as scary as that may be.

*Warning spoiler - People clinging to their genetic enhancements even though they know how drastically it is shortening their lives also seems plausible. * End warning.

Those with unfortunately fight to keep at the expense of others and it takes strong people like Sage and others to stand up and fight for something better. The performance was well done with pleasant voice and able to change with characters in a way that was not annoying.

However, if snarky team banter bothers you, you may get annoyed. I would have appreciated a little more backstory and other main character development hence the 4 star review. As this is a series, maybe that will come.

Would certainly make an interesting tv show. looking forward to listening to Escape from Eden.

Wasn't expecting much but it beat expectations

So, I'm currently walking a very long way on my own, so only have audiobooks and my thoughts to keep me company, before I left, I downloaded as many free books as I could fit on my phone, while some have been total busts, this one has impressed me greatly, the narration by Stephanie actually makes the story come to life, makes the book her own.

The only real negative is some of the characters (well one) is INCREDIBLY annoying but then, even the book reminds you, you remember that they're still a child and, lets be honest, all children are annoying, very relatable

10/10 very much looking forward to the sequels

Best book I've listened to in a long time

If your a fan of authors such as Bella Forest &/ Victoria Aveyard I highly recommend this book. The Setting and story is top notch about a girl who wakes up without her memories surrounded by people superior to her in every way and she tries to survive this world and rescue her brother with unlikely allies and a touch of romance . Narrator is expressive and engaging as well :) definitely worth a listen
