Story
Veterinarian Trip Beaumont likes being a big fish in a small pond. There’s hardly an animal she can’t heal or a woman she can’t charm within fifty miles of Pine Cone, Georgia - except for the irritating and elusive new cop who keeps leaving parking tickets on her truck. Officer Jamie Grant has never liked rule breakers, but she’s especially incensed when she discovers Trip owns the truck that is constantly parked illegally. She’s searched carefully for a quiet, eclectic community to settle down with her drug-sniffing - albeit gastric-challenged - canine partner, Petunia.

Story
Park ranger Kyler Clemons had loved the vibe and the beach of Mustang Island. Getting caught with her boss’ wife, however, got her transferred to the wild and remote Davis Mountains State Park - in the middle of nowhere. Now after four years, she’s forgotten about the beach and has embraced the mountain life, feeling like a local. She hangs out at the Cottonwood Creek Bar and Grill. She watches football with Mark Walton. She’s taken up birdwatching and stargazing. She is perfectly content. No stress. No drama. And no desire to date. Then Lexie Walton waltzes into her life.

Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

With the 2016 Rio Olympics just around the corner, nothing is going to derail her long-held dream of winning a medal or two in Olympic dressage. Not even the reappearance of a childhood so-not-a-friend throwing her perfectly balanced life into disarray. Addie Gardner’s career is at its peak, and accepting a last-minute fill-in position as the veterinarian for the US Olympic Dressage Team was a no-brainer. The fact that her old crush from Pony Club is on the team is just a bonus.

Ren Dunbar is used to never fitting in—anywhere. Graduating high school at 13 and med school at 19 pretty much guaranteed she’d always have trouble proving she belonged, but she’s okay with that. She prefers the solitude of the lab over the raucous atmosphere in the OR, which would be fine except she’s a surgery resident. Winning the Benjamin Franklin Prize in surgery is just the proof she needs to show everyone she deserves to be part of their world.

Publisher's Summary
Success for Marc Ryder means riding out eight seconds on the back of an angry rodeo bull and avoiding getting roped into a relationship with the pretty women she meets along the way. She's exactly the type of wild and reckless person artist Bridgette LeRoy has avoided since the senseless death of her brother. But circumstances throw them together, and Bridgette is drawn into a tumultuous ride of attraction, passion, and denial. When she realizes it's the only way to protect her battered heart, Bridgette's desperate mission to stop Marc's suicidal return to the rodeo becomes a race in which every second counts.

Sometimes it Just Takes One
Marc is a bronc and bull rider; Brigitte is an artist and art instructor; they're hot for each other but Brigitte lost her beloved older brother to the bulls in the streets of Pamploma, Spain. So then she must escape her feelings for Marc, and thus she runs away, never bothering to enlighten Marc as to the reason; I mean seriously why would she (Marc) want or need the reason that she's being shunned. This would seem to be a bit unfair, not to mention counter productive but that isn't addressed, added to this is that Brigitte runs hot and cold, seemingly unable to love her or lose her. Finally she realizes that she, unfortunately, and yes she says it just that way to Marc, loves her. Then she throws in the whiner's last resort, emotionally blackmailing Marc by using the phrase; "if you love you'll" fill in the blank. In this case it's not ride the bull today. Never mind that this is a last minute request from Brigitte a woman who has treated her badly, even though Marc gave her a fortune in art to sell, a move that in essence saved Brigitte's job at the local university; along with the jobs of several of her colleagues. Then comes Brigitte's clinching line; "if you ride today, we're done." In about twelve hours Marc's expected to ride; she has committed to this, her sponsors are counting on her, her agent is counting on her, other females who might one day be interested in following in her footsteps are counting on her. Oh well the hell with all that, Brigitte who has treated her like something she needs to wipe off her shoe has given her the ultimatum and so she'll not not only quit and break all the commitments she's made, at literally the last second; she'll be happy about it and can't wait 'til she can be with Brigitte.
The only reason I didn't quit listening at this juncture is because it all occurred in about the last three minutes. I gave it one star and would have liked to have been able to give it less.

Love This Author
This is a great story about the rodeo and the world that women rarely make it to the top. Broncos are one thing but riding a bull is a whole other world. Marc Ryder is at the top of her game when she’s stepped on and tossed around by a bull. While recording in Virginia with childhood friends she meets Bridget, Ann artist and instructor. They are drawn into a passionate tumultuous relationship. I didn’t have any negative experience with the narration and got lost in the story.

Potential Spoiler
There is a certain ultimatum that is given and that kind of ultimatum hedges towards emotional abuse especially considering Marc has severe abandonment issues. I understand Bridgette's reasoning, but she should have said it differently or perhaps explain to Marc why she needed her to stop riding instead of jus acknowledging in her head that what she did was wrong even tho Marc was not particularly attached to the rodeo. With how hot and cold she had been with Marc the ultimatum jus doesn't sit right. Great story overall

Saucy!
After reading some of the reviews regarding the narrator, I was hesitant. This book was fine ... the narrator didn't do a horrible job. Does she need more voice time? Maybe, but she didn't do a horrible job either.
I think you'll get so lost in the story that you'll forget about the supposedly not-so-good narrator, then realize that you wouldn't have gotten so lost in the story if the narrator had really been not-so-good.
This is a saucy little book that you'll probably binge, and start looking for another of D. Jackson Leigh's books ... and I wouldn't blame you!

Story was great but
I ama big fan of this author and I loved this series but I wish I had read this instead of listening to the audio. The narrator sounded...drunk? Not sure and I'm not one to complain normally but it took something away from the overall enjoyment. I will definitely keep reading her books, in fact just started another one but will be cautious of the narrator in the future.

decent story but horrid narration
it felt as if the narrator didn't know how to read commas or breaks in paragraphs. they spoken so quickly that often times it was hard to keep up with when the pov changed. due to this it made it a struggle to keep up with the book.
