Story
For thousands of years, scientists, philosophers, and self-help gurus have wrestled with one of the basic conundrums of human life: Why do we do the things we do? Or, rather, why do we so often not do the things we want to do? In You're a Miracle (and a Pain in the Ass), McHargue addresses these issues. We like to think we’re in control of our thoughts and decisions, he writes, but science has shown that a host of competing impulses, emotions, and environmental factors are at play in every action we undertake.

ABC News anchor Dan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals, play Ultimate Frisbee, and use the word namaste without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to embrace a practice he'd long considered ridiculous. Harris discovered that meditation made him more focused and less yanked around by his emotions. According to his wife, it also made him significantly less annoying.

In Stop Missing Your Life, mindfulness teacher Cory Muscara takes us on a journey into the heart of what is required for real change, growth, and happiness. He exposes how the phrase "be present" has become little more than a platitude, imbued with the misguided message to be present just for the sake of being present, and reveals how to achieve true Presence: a quality of being that is unmistakably attractive about a person, and one that only comes when we've peeled back the layers of guarding that prevent us from being our full, honest, and integrated selves in the world.

Do you get frustrated with people! LISTEN TO THIS
Ive done a lot of therapy and still do weekly and yet this book was refreshing and new to me/ the advice was more practical than most self help books and less of the common now a days “you’re a f&)@)& bada**” kind of thing which has never concretely helped me. I highly recommend listening to this, especially while walking. It helped me process some issues with a demanding mother and a demanding boss who I haven’t even worked for for over 6 months but still found myself fuming and imagining what I’d say to her if I had the chance every day and ending up in an anxiety spiral. The dating and love advice are solid too. Anxiety may never go away but I have more strategies now when it comes up. Will re listen again soon.

A Must Read Book for the Anxious Soul
I’m a therapist who is connected to the theory of Murray Bowen, and until now I hadn’t read a book that simplifies his concepts as well as this book does. I’m sure it will help me be sure to function more for me, less for others, and calm myself down. I think this will help me be of even more help to my clients while it makes my family members curious to know more. I’m grateful for this work.

Learn the jargon or you won't get the book
I imagine this book is quite useful, if you pay close attention at the beginning and learn all the jargon (differentiation, triangles, etc.) but if, like me, you skip around among audiobooks reading a couple of chapters of a books like this, then reading a couple fiction books and coming back to this book, you may read scenarios that end with a sentence like "This woman obviously has trouble with triangles and needs to work on differentiation," which leave you thinking "That may be obvious to anyone who remembers all the terms this author is fond of using, but I don't have clue what she is talking about, and since this is an audiobook, I can't flip to the beginning and scan for the introduction of those terms." I actually tried re-listening to some of the early sections in search of what triangles were, but couldn't find it and was annoyed so bumbled along with the probably incomplete faulty definition I was guessing from context. My advice is pay attention and listen all the way through, or just don't bother with this book.

Useful, realistic, entertaining, & applicable.
This is my new favorite book ever. Besides the fact that the author and I would probably be fast friends, judging from her taste in chapter headings, there is just so much wisdom here and it is written in a way that is accessible, understandable, and applicable. These topics address EVERYTHING about being happier, healthier humans from a perspective I haven't heard before. I will be listening again and again - and raving to my family members that they, too, need this book. Excellent performance by Christine Lakin. All around, a fantastic experience.
