Story
Who in their right mind tells both his lawyer and the judge presiding over his murder trial, “F--k you!” while still in the courtroom? No one, right? Yeah, you’d be wrong about that. I did. You’d say the same thing if you were just found guilty of a murder you didn’t commit, though. Call me crazy for going off like that in court, but trust me, you don’t know crazy until you see what happened next.

Story
When fate brought me to the fantasy world of Aurilon, I thought I'd seen everything. If I only knew how wrong I was. Now, I’ve discovered monsters are real, they’re stunningly beautiful, and they need my help. In this world, men’s cores are cursed, preventing them from cultivating and achieving incredible power. Fortunately, I’m not from this world. With several amazing monster girls at my side, I'll forge a new destiny and ascend to heights I’d only ever dreamed of. But first, I must create a safe haven in the wilds to protect those who have been hunted for far too long.

Story
Pryvet came to this land seeking power untold, and he just didn't expect there to be strings attached. Now, he must bed as many beauties as he can, or his life itself will be forfeit. Still, it doesn't hurt that his power grows with each new wife he adds to his growing family. Nothing will stop him in his quest for revenge. Not battle elves, not an entire army of Valkyrie soldiers, not even the deadly world forest itself. Because he must succeed—for himself and for the women who love him. It's time to win a war.

All I wanted to do was take a break from college to check out LegendFest, some good ol' cosplay, and maybe find a lady to hit it off with. My life took a new direction, though, when I found out myths like Red Riding Hood are real, and they’re in an ongoing war against evil to save us all. More than that, they are being hunted, mistaken as humanity's enemy. They need a mortal to serve as their protector, someone to keep them out of harm's way while leading the battle against the likes of the Big Bad Wolf, Baba Yaga, and other evil legends. Now, I am that protector.

Warner spent his days like almost anyone else. He got up, went to work, answered phone calls in a call center, went home, spent time with his daughter, and went to sleep. Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over. Life was as mundane as anyone could ever fear it to be. Today was the day that all that would change. On this day, his daughter Maya would be nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic he’d never known existed. The only consolation is that he discovers he’s not quite human, either.

This time, as I was delivering my criminals to be placed in the Abaddon Asylum, everything fell apart when an uprising tore down the system and led to my ship exploding before I could get out of there. Now it's up to me and some sexy lady allies (and then some!) I've teamed up with along the way to put things right. But we're not just going to stop the uprising. Our mission goes much deeper than that, into the planet itself where all manner of horrors await.

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down. Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty. A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time. It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted - rather than him being an actual monster. That was Rene’s entire life until a fateful day changed that. A day that his career as a hitman for hire built on the monster’s needs will end. Where Rene will be forced to atone for his actions. To be held accountable and judged.

Awesome 3rd book, bad new narrator
The book is just as good as the previous 3 installments. Very much worth reading! Unfortunately they switched narrator's for this book, and went from an amazing guy to what sounded like Honor Simpson narrating the entire thing. Ummm...thank goodness there's less steamy scenes in this book, as no one wants those narrated like that.

Narrator change killed it for me
I loved the series so far. The original narrator was right for the part, both with the action and with the steamy stuff. But the new narrator in part 3 just killed it for me. It was just too jarring of a change. I got a few chapters in but just couldn't finish this.

Horrible narrator change
The new narrator for the series is all sorts of wrong for the book. It completely sapped the enjoyment out of the series for me. I can only assume the old narrator cannot do the series any longer, but the choice for the replacement didn’t work for me. The comedic delivery felt very off, which is extremely important for this series. The female voices were really atrocious to my ear and I can’t understand why if they replaced the old VA they didn’t get a duo or female VA.
If you enjoyed this series like I did, I’d recommend just reading it, because the narrator change isn’t welcome.

New Narrator is a no go.
Shame. I enjoyed the story, but the new Narrator is lacking any of the fun that made the first two books so enjoyable. His women all sound the same, and they have no sass, and he has a habit of adding strange inflections in strange places. Please bring back the original!

Voice Actor Change, but that's not the problem.
I generally don't mind Leo Barnabas, and initially it was refreshing change from Tad Branson. There's still something missing and maybe I've been spoiled listening to multi-cast narrations, but there was just a frustrating sameness about it.
So I pulled this book up in Kindle, and that's where I found the issue. Markham's writing style just isn't up to snuff. The scenes and overrall story was good, but just the little problems keep adding up. Like a comic book, sometimes characters are talking or thinking WAY too much when things are happening that discussing actions while in the heat of battle is just a curious superpower. But then there's long (and this is literally spelled out) expletives which just completely bring you OUT of whatever mood is being set (the adult ones, especially).
It's entertaining, don't get me wrong. But there's definitely parts of this where it's a real slog and hard to get through. I could actually really like this if "narrative distance" was tightened up.
And if there was more than one narrator, but then that's asking something else entirely. Hope this review helps.
