Publisher's Summary
England, 1586.
A treasonous conspiracy....
Giordano Bruno returns to England to bring shocking new intelligence to Sir Francis Walsingham. A band of Catholic Englishmen are plotting to kill Queen Elizabeth and spring Mary Queen of Scots from prison to take the English throne in her place.
A deadly trap....
Bruno is surprised to find that Walsingham is aware of the plot, led by the young, wealthy noble Anthony Babington and is allowing it to progress. His hope is that Mary will put her support in writing - and condemn herself to a traitor's death.
A queen in mortal danger....
Bruno is tasked with going undercover to join the conspirators. Can he stop them before he is exposed? Either way a Queen will die; Bruno must make sure it is the right one....

Gripping story well worth listening to.
This is a great story well written and researched* with first class narration from Daniel Philpott. Daniel really brings the part of Bruno alive for me and the story kept me intrigued until the end.
*One point I was disappointed with featured in chapter 8. I don’t know whether this was an error on behalf of the author or the narrator, but William Cavendish, the father of Henry Cavendish, was Bess of Hardwick’s second husband not her first. Her first husband was Robert Barley (Barlow) and she married him when she was 15 and he 13 in 1543. Robert Barley died after a year. Bess married William Cavendish in 1547 and bore him 8 children, 6 of whom survived.

Yet another winning story
Plunged straight into an exciting story and the stinking streets of Elizabethan London. Great characters, great plot and brilliant performance. Thank you.
I’m so looking forward to the next Giordano Bruno story.

On the edge of my seat!
Loved this book - I got drawn right into Bruno's world and was on the edge of my seat for the conclusion! I'd struggled at first with the change of narrator mid series but I really enjoyed this performance - going straight back to the beginning to enjoy them all again :)

Reassuring comfort of known characters
A decent enough performance by the narrator but not a patch on his predecessor who created such atmosphere.

Terrific!
I’ve enjoyed all the Bruno books but this was particularly good. He’s such a likeable character and although I knew how the Babington plot ended, it was an exciting and gripping read. The narration was excellent. Recommended.
