Story
The battle’s end was supposed to bring peace and establish the Bravers’ new home in the Shiverglades, but all it brought was pain and suffering. With his closest friends lost to another realm, over half of the settlement’s population injured, and missing supply chains, Hal doesn’t have a moment to rest. He may have won the battle with the Shiverglades, but he has yet to win the war.

Publisher's Summary
A journey through exiled lands to build and fight for a Sanctum’s survival, and a Beastborne that must transcend the boundaries of his monstrous abilities to rise above his primal nature, or else lose it all....
To claim his powers as Founder and secure their freedom, Hal and his cohort must fight to build a Sanctum where no other living kingdom dares to tread. The search for a Manaseed to serve as the Sanctum’s heart will take Hal and his caravan to distant, strange lands, and force them to weather vicious beasts and Manastorms alike.
To survive the trials ahead, Hal crafts weapons enchanted with rare loot and sates his appetite for monster essences...all while struggling to balance the price of his corrupting, otherworldly powers and securing a foothold in an unforgiving land.
Settlement building won’t be easy with only days to prepare for a siege they aren’t remotely ready for. Hal must challenge his limits as a Beastborne and juggle the needs of his burgeoning settlement. From constructing fortifications to maintaining morale and generating food, there isn’t a moment’s rest for Hal if he’s to be the first Founder to successfully stake a claim in the Shiverglades.
Can Hal find strength in an unlikely ally of the distant stars while managing the defenses of his settlement, or will the tidal wave of bloodthirsty monsters destroy them all?

Worth it
tldr: I used this book to help power me through 32 hour road trip. 10/10 Amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was grander and better than the first, in scope and breadth. The world building in this one was taken up a notch. The characters came alive, each with their own history and struggles that you get glimpses of throughout the book. So much so that if there were spin offs made for the side characters, there would be more than enough for full books. Each of them are well thought out, believable and carry their own fascinating secrets and burdens. Very three dimensional.
The main character grows a lot in this book. He is strong but not overpowered to the point where you could say he is on easy mode. Once it seems that he has climbed the power mountain, he gets slapped down by an even bigger mountain hiding behind the first. And my favorite part is that he the MC is not a little bitch. That kills the story for me and there was none of that here.
I had to go from one side of the country to the other. A large chunk of the driving is extremely boring but the entire time I was completely content to drive with the audio book playing. It made it actually enjoyable to drive through the middle of nowhere for hours on end.
The only slight gripe is that some of the descriptions and such are repeated. However this serves to as a reminder in case you get lost in the numerous titles as well as lengthening the book, which benefits the author. Gotta earn that real cash money dollars, so I get it.
James T. Callum, you did it my dude. I'm now a fan.
Eric Michael Summoner, absolutely solid performance.
I look forward to the next one.

Too Much Exposition - Way too stretched
I really enjoyed the first book. This one had way too much exposition and explanation. The author needs to learn how to get to the point. The book starts out ok but then there is a really long stint where the book was just boring. Although the ending is OK it really wasn't satisfying - at least not for the 34 hours of time I invested listening to the book.
There were so many missed opportunities to expand and enrich the story. Instead the author relied on exposition and being overly detailed.
Whit is it with the trend to have MCs mull things over ad nauseam.
I'll likely listen to the next book but probably only if there is nothing else to listen to at the time.

decent but downhill
i like this series and will definitely get the next one if there is. but sometimes things are overused or dragged out for so long it becomes annoying like internal battles weve seen before a new internal battle but different person i dont so much mind the idea just the length it takes to get through. and i have to say very disappointed with the ending of this book left on an extremely weird cliff hanger of sorts and also the ending fight scene taking a very long time and just seemingly getting more and more and more complicated in the last 30 minutes. this book also seemed like it went backwards it kept reiterating skills and character sheets and quests at one point a quest was read out back to back 3 times and it was decently lengthy but not complicated it just seemed like filler. i would assume most people who listen to this genre are gamers or if not have atleast listened to others in this genre once the first book goes over any type of stats and such especially those that differ from other books. we really dont need those reiterated every 10 min especially when thats a lengthy process. overall though good story in whole however this book seemed like more filler than content to me only because of the length and little main story progression that occurred.

A very slow progression, boring read/listen
I’ve listened to both 1 and 2 in this series. Book 2 was the worst do the two. It’s hard to explain exactly why, but I’ll try. The MC has the worst luck. Nothing good ever happens to him without 10 negative things happening to him following the 1 good thing. I didn’t want to give up on it so I turned up the speed and powered through but I often found myself falling asleep or zoning out. It just couldn’t keep my attention. I kept finding myself hoping it would be almost over. It never “kept me wanting more”.

30+ hours?
I listened to the entire first book and thought the world building made up for a lot of faults so I decided to give the second a try. 30+ hours of disjointed story where absolutely nothing happens until the last 3 hours. A majority of this story is useless combat logs and stat screens. I use audio books when working as most of what I do is muscle memory. This is the first time I have used the fast forward button while working because the constant stats you are given seems to be just useless filler to increase word count. This might of been a good 15 hour listen if the author decided to stop with all the useless stat updates.

Over half of the book is stats in statistics and recipes you can finish the whole story and a lot less time cuz there's no story the narrator is good if you turn it up to about a hundred and ten instead of leaving him talkin slow like he does

Still a little preachy, but enjoyable all the same
I agree with other reviewers that there is way too much emphasis on repeatedly going over the stats - it really does get tiresome .. like the last 42 full minutes of this book was simply going over Hal's stats - seriously? We'd already heard them ad nauseum throughout the book .. with the same ones being repeated every time something changed. I get it - stats are a major part of the whole premise .. but no need to go through a comprehensive explanation of what each skill is and does every time he levels up, surely?
Other than that - and the preachiness - it's a decent story.

So Long Winded
As other people have written, the amount of time this book spends on stats ruins it. You find yourself zoning out and then missing the continuation of the story. Add to that the extra long battle scenes and this story drags on and on and on......
The hero is so unlikeable as well. I wonder if I would have enjoyed it more if I had ever played a computer game in my life, maybe I would get it more. I shall not be wasting my money on the third installment. The reason I gave it 2* is because of Steve the bat like creature and his friends and because of the chapter with the dragon.

Too much redundancy in writing.
Too much redundancy in the writing which leaves the action without tension and the interesting abilities are not expanded upon. There are like 50 different realm walkers and tangents about people that lead nowhere. There is non stop action and improving that you just gloss over the massive creative libraties that are being taken. There are so many coincidences that it's hard to not mistake it as fate or bad writing.

Excellent Isaiah
This was just as good as the first one. I cannot wait for the next one to come out.

Too many stat lists
Loved the narration, loved the plot and characters but the long lists of stats were tedious and I tended to skip them when there were more than three at zero or the number of enemies were more than two. Why enumerate each monster killed when it would be so much easier (and attention holding) to say e.g. that CharX kills all enemies or kills 3 and wounds 2?

Great story
I thoroughly enjoyed the story but the excessive explanation of alllll the stats every time every time they are brought up did break my enjoyment of the story.

It’s pretty good
This is a pretty good book but there’s a lot of fuller. The characters are good with some great character growth for the main group and MC. The book is a bit all over the place but I can see that the author is setting up for the next books in the series. The narration was excellent and with a great range. Overall 14/15 there’s just too much filler.

Too many stats
Good story but spoiled by lengthy stats reports. Tends too make the entire listening experience an aggravating boor.
