Comparisonitis is a contagious, socially transmitted condition that occurs when you compare yourself to others so frequently and fiercely that you're left paralysed, with your confidence in tatters and your self-worth plummeting. It may sound trivial, but this affliction can have serious adverse effects on our mental health, leading to depression, anxiety, overthinking and regret. To make matters worse, our comparison culture is only expanding. Thanks to social media, we have more opportunities to compare ourselves than ever before, and even kids are falling into the trap.

Story
If you have relationships, you've likely been part of silent agreements. Silent agreements are the implicit "rules" of your relationships that arise from unspoken beliefs and expectations that both parties hold, stemming from your earliest experiences and reinforced as you mature. They can sound something like "the person who makes more money should pay for the dates," or "my boss doesn't offer me a raise, and he knows I won't ask for one". These agreements can hinder your relationships, remaining undiscussed due to fear, aversion to conflict, feelings of obligation, or guilt.

This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Publisher's Summary
When our expectations are met and things go according to plan, we feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. Risking little, we feel safe, in control, and on-track. But when life throws us a curveball or does not live up to our expectations, we end up with an Expectation Hangover. This particular brand of discomfort is profoundly sobering and uncomfortable.
Christine Hassler urges us to not wallow in regret, self-recrimination, or anger, and instead see these hangovers as catalyst for profound transformation. Often life has to throw us a curveball (or several) so that we look in a different direction. When we fully treat our Expectation Hangover on the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual level, we learn courage, faith, surrender, and love, and we make room for the kind of unexpected things that lead us more directly to a life we love - rather than a life we planned.

I wish it was read by the author!!
I Love Love Love this book, but the performer does not do it justice. As a longtime Christine Hassler follower & podcast listener, the tone of the book’s performance does not match the content at all. For those that are not as familial with Christine’s work, I feel like they would get soooo much more out of it, if it was read by the author.

Christine wth
I found this book through her podcast which is really good.
I am so confused about her voice on this book. It’s not even her voice but has this weird narrative tone. It would be perfect for story telling. But it’s odd and hard to concentrate when her tone is so random for the book topic. I can barely pay attention to anything being said.
If this narrator was reading a story that has characters and dialogue it would be perfect.

One of the best
I absolutely loved this book. I listened to it first then bought the book also to do all the of the exercises. It's a real type of book that makes you think and figure it out as to how to make it work for your own life not just being told this is how you should be. I probably will listen to it again !
Only negative was the narrator, had to get used to how she talked after a couple chapters it was okay but definitely could of been better.
But other then that its a FANTASTIC book !!

Love Christine, Hate the Audiobook
I wish Christine Hassler was reading the audio book. The woman reading sounds makes it sound like a romance or dramatic fiction novel. Christine has a very soothing way of speaking that this narrator just doesn’t have. That being said, I might just get the paper book because I love Christine’s message and really want to finish the book!

Narrator's tone
Oof. Struggling to hear the message. The narrator's tone is disfracting and feels out of alignment with the words written. There are moments of judgemental, maybe even condescending tones used. Sometimes the tone feels grounded and supportive, then like a host of a stuffy brunch rolling her eyes and gossiping.

Simple and profound book!
This has become one of my new favourites in the self-help category. I love how digestible and simple the explanations are of concepts that I know can take years to truly grasp. Such a testament to the deep level of inner work the author has obviously done to understand herself including the workings of the mind, the ego and the journey required to cultivate faith in something greater.
Expectations are at the root of so much of our human suffering and this book explains how expectations negatively impact us and how we can break the cycle of feeling inadequate, disappointed and dissatisfied with how life unfolds.
I have already recommended the book to friends and clients and will read again for sure.
I think anyone could benefit from this book (men & women of all ages). It is an easy read with simple language and it's packed with gems of undeniable truth that will have you nodding along.
The narrator was great too! Clear, energetic and nicely paced.
I highly recommend this book!
