Story
Boudica, second daughter of a Celtic king, has little concern for tribal tensions and political intrigues. Called by the gods and the stirrings of her own wild heart, she listens instead to whispers of the oaks. But Boudica would be wiser to heed the warning cries of eagles. Rumors abound that the Romans are amassing forces for another invasion. In an effort to consolidate power, Boudica’s father turns to Prasutagus, the formidable ruler of the Greater Iceni. To win Prasutagus’s aid, Boudica’s father must strike a bargain - a deal with implications beyond Boudica’s imagining.

The truth is neither plain nor simple. Sable, a reluctant thief from the slums, can feel truth when people speak. For years she’s been using that skill to try to break free from the vicious gang boss to whom she's indebted. Escape comes in the form of an odd set of companions: a dwarf running from the past, an actor with a magical, glowing tree, a too-helpful kobold, a playwright with a knack for getting stories out of people, and a man and woman with suspicious, magical powers. Twenty years earlier, King Eoghan’s father cunningly devised marriages between the highborn sons and daughters of the oft-warring Reaches, sealing the unions before they could protest, shattering existing betrothals in place of forced alliances. Publisher's Summary
A lord forsaken by the gods. A mysterious woman with many secrets. A kingdom on the brink of war....
Two thousand years after the ancient Kingdom of Alekka was torn in two, disgruntled gods are taking sides, seeking a reckoning, for order can only last so long before chaos returns to claim its rightful place. The dreamers see what is coming.
They warn of a threat greater than any other, raising fears of unimaginable death and destruction, and a winter colder than any that has come before. The king’s enemies are rising, emboldened by his waning power, spurred on by his troubles.
Though Reinar Vilander, Lord of Ottby, only sees what lies before him, which is an undermanned fort and empty coffers. His father is an invalid, his wife has gone, his sons are dead, his fort is vulnerable, and as winter approaches, he doesn’t know what to do. For he has run out of luck. And without the luck of the gods, no lord can hope to rule for long.
And a desperate man tends to make bad choices...very bad choices, which is bad news for Alys de Sant, whose life will forever be changed on the fateful day they meet.
Eye of the Wolf is the first book in The Lords of Alekka, a thrilling new fantasy series set in the world of The Furyck Saga. Enter a kingdom in turmoil, where mysterious dreamers weave dark magic around vengeful lords, and those fated to rise are forced out of the shadows as the battle to claim the throne begins.

A.E.R. has become my new favorite!
My only regret is I didn't realize the Lord's of Allekka series was not complete yet. if it is as long as The Furyks series, I will always be anticipating the next book abs lamenting how long the author is taking! LOL
If you read The Furyks series you will love this, but it is not necessary because this has different characters and plot line. Sigh, now I have to decide if I should read the second now, or wait until complete series is done...hard decision
